For real, Just found him a couple days ago. At first it was a bit difficult to pallet tbh, I started with "The Charm of Innocence" but I KNEW there was more for me in there some where. This song is great, I think I found the era of Momus I like best.
It's a shame that this version wasn't released elsewhere (?), you know; I keep going back to it, and it's really first-rate. I think I'm in a long elliptical orbit around it.
@@eelnai2503 tape being old wouldn't make it drop a half step. Wrong speed might, but it doesn't sound like that. Lots of people have tuned down to make it easier to sing for a long time. Same concept as using a capo.

I can't figure out what's he playing on the pre-chorus "How did I pass my time on Earth? Now, it can be revealed" and the chorus "I was a Maoist intellectual in the entertainment field"... anyone knows?
Well sung! Just wondering where is the eye patch? Is it just part of the image, like a statement or is for a medical reason? Anyway with or without the eye patch your a very talented guy, keep it up.
Thanks! Regarding the eyepatch, this is a TV appearance from 1988. I didn't have my eye problem (acanthamoeba keratitis caused by contact lenses) until 1997. I wear a patch to keep the blind eye covered up, because I find it unsightly.
Thomas Norman Oh yes there are. But you'll have more luck finding them far away from the social glitter, hot women and earthly pleasures, more likely hiding deep inside some private university, analyzing the filtered results of massive amounts of globally collected data, drawing conclusions, writing essays, making predictions and offering "ideas", funded by, and exclusively for, conservative Think Tanks, giving handsomely paid private conferences for private Foundations, helping their "sponsors" shape the world to come.
Three problems. 1) [citation needed] 2) Mao didn’t round up all the intellectuals and have them shot. Mao gave up a lot of his power during the cultural revolution so the masses themselves would often send intellectuals to the countryside if they were out of touch with the masses. You can can watch How Yukong Moved the Mountains to see how this actually worked. This is not anti-intellectual, this is understanding that intellectuals have a petty-bourgeois class instinct. 3) Maoism did not exist until the late 80’s/early 90’s long after Mao died. Maoism is only called Maoism because Maoists believe that the Mao era overcame the limitations of the USSR. The USSR fell apart due to revisionism in the party. China did too but the theory of the Cultural Revolution provided a long term solution to this because it calls upon the masses to get them to criticize poor party leadership. Why did it fail? Because it came too late in China. The revisionists were already embedded in the party. Mao=/=Maoism. Maoism is beyond Maoism. It sounds funny to say but Maoism began in Peru with the Peruvian Communist Party declaring it a higher stage of Marxism. Maoism did not begin in China. I’ve read a lot about this sort of thing. I’m very familiar with how the west portrays Mao and how the rest of the world does.
Maoism is beyond Mao*. Mao wrote quite a lot and you can find plenty of it on the internet. I’m sure you can find something where he demonizes intellectuals if you maintain that position. But even still, Maoism is a system of thought and action which is not dogmatically reliant upon what Mao said so let’s say you do find something... so? Maoism is not anti-intellectual even if Mao may have said some anti-intellectual things. But again, there are numerous interviews with intellectuals in How Yukong Moved the Mountains. Intellectuals lost their elite status and were connecting to the masses.

I'm a little bit addicted to Momus atm. Finding his music was like finding a roll of cash on the floor.
That is a lovely thing to say. I knew him and he has been anything but boring.

And there I was not noticing, wearing one earphone...
When I died, the energy released by my frustration was nearly enough for reincarnation. What a brilliant, profound line.

Fuck yeah, comrade
holy this is amazing, 1988 what? dude..
Can't like this enough times!!!
I'd never noticed how much Momus' songs reminded me of Jake Thackray before...
LULUBELLE III They both owe a huge debt to Georges Brasson and the French chanson tradition.
He's the bastard child of Thackray and Larry Grayson!

He's tuned his guitar down half a step so this is just what I hear.
I don't think it was intentional, it's on old weathered tape so the pitch is gonna be a little flat. Realistically you'd just play it in A minor.

live on a French TV?
where is the sound? where is the audio???
If you don't hear anything at all, it may be that your stereo isn't recognizing the left side. Or, your audio may be turned off/down :)
No - mine is off too...
God, he even LOOKS like Brel.
True. Though there are a lot of photos of Brel where he looks good looking ;)

no he doesn’t, brel wasn’t hot
any more tracks from this performance???

I was a Maoist intellectual 💀
I was a Maoist too. And now I am a Christian. THAT is the TRUE revolution.
Oof
go back to being a maoist
I think "Maoist" and "intellectual" are a contradiction in terms, honestly. :P
U really look like a intelligent ! Ha ha ha
Are there capitalistic intellectuals? Nah, they're busy on a yacht with beautiful women and exquisite cuisine.

then you have clearly not understood maoism
