In France SF are 1° RPIMa, Commandos-Marine, CPA 10 and 30, 13°RDP, 4°RHFS (choppers), no legion. 2°REP have a commando group but you find the same il all airborne regiments, they are not SF tier one (if i can explain it like that). In the past (years 90) even the 9°Marine infantry division had commandos units in 2° and 3° Marine infantry regiments, they were called DAO (détachement d'assistance opérationnelle), vanished in 1996. SAED are their new look but more powerful, and they are not SF. Engineers special sections (PAT, DINOPS) are not SF in France, they can work with in few missions for specifics works but are not FS. CPES, CPIS and CPEOM (action service) are part of DGSE, not SF neither. Hope i haven't forgotten anything.(and sorry for language mistakes) Regards.
Hi brother, I'd add the "Pyrénées" chopper regiment from air force. They integrated French SOCOM lately. And else, but still SF in the means and composing the french SF CT and HR doctrine : GIGN central, RAID central BRI PP. I'd still say that DGSE's service action is still SF. They use exactly the same techniques and stuff as their counterparts units. DGSE seals...are trained with Navy seals, same procedures, same vehicles, same gear...so...SF too for me...but just with a different political perspective regarding the execution of missions... BR.

The legion is not a French SF unit...they are considered shock infantry.. The legion has a few special operations capable units but are not part of COS (FRENCH SPECIAL OPS COMMAND). A few years ago there were talks of integrating the Legions 2 Parachute Regiment onto COS but it didnt happen.. The 2nd Rep recon element is similar to the British Para's pathfinder platoon. The Legion Engineer Regiment has an underwater/scuba capable element... These are special operations capable but not part of French SF.
