Seastar Hydraulic Steering Rebuild / Arm and Cylinder Removal / Sea star Steering STUCK

  • I was repowering a boat this week and my old sea star steering cylinder needed to be removed as I am selling the outboard. This is the same process you would have to do to be able to rebuild your steering system minus the complete removal of the tube, but its a good idea to remove it and clean it up and grease it so it doesn't get stuck like this one was. I used the Seastar tool that presses the steering arm off the cylinder and it worked like a champ. I also used a pipe wrench to grab the other arm and help work it back and forth the remove from the outboard.

      Yes a special tool you can buy them on Amazon

    Is this stuck as in the steering wheel @ helm will not turn in one direction also?

      No mine was just leaking seals. I had one stuck at the helm but they are easily rebuildable as well.
