I just got turned on to F+TM and one of the first things I appreciated was the diversity of the dancers. After the lyrics and the music, but probably before the exquisitely surreal nature of the choreography and scenery. I am a vanilla gal from California so might not have normally paid attention to diversity but I married a Middle Eastern man and we adopted a baby from India so, yeah, I notice and deeply appreciate diversity now.

This is so reminiscent of "Which Witch" to me and I am loving it. My initial interpretation? This song is largely a commentary on her sobriety, but also how our vices never fully leave us, instead shapeshifting alongside us. Absolutely beautiful, fantastically feral, and poignant as always.
Damnnn! My interpretation was highly about her depression, and how when’s she’s walking with her hands out everytime she looks up she smiles a bit… seeing that as her only escape…. And the girls on the floor symbol the weight of depression…
Part 2… however I suppose the heaven would be sobering up “heaven is here if you want it” meaning getting clean is there but truly if you fight and want it! Yeahhh!!! Thanks for you interpretation xx
Which Witch is one of my all time favorite songs
A lot of that is the movements from Netflix's show "The OA"
As someone who never had to sober up because my constitution mercifully (or not) prevents me from enjoying the ‘fun’ parts of alcohol (I’m basically intolerant to it so I only get a flush and a headache which leads to throwing up and then back to normal, no reckless, confidence-boosting episodes, but also no comedowns or withdrawals or cravings) and also I have kept away from all the ‘addictive’ substances (they just never had any draw for me, despite being in the arts) , I often wonder if my sense of fantasy, fed only by my imagination, pales in comparison to those who have seen hallucinations and felt euphoria. So many talented people have had the demons of drink and drugs on their back all the time, some have succumbed mortally to it.
Florence’s music has, I feel, taken on a far darker, more confessional tone ever since her sobriety, which I find interesting. Her lyrics have become a lot more ambiguous now; I don’t know in ‘King’ if it is an affirmation of power, or an admission of guilt and weakness. Here, I am trying to figure out if her music brings her solace or torment.
The outro “And every song I wrote became an escape rope tied around my neck to pull me up to heaven” OMGGGG the amount of power that those words have, I love Florence’s way of writing and expressing herself

i love how this era feels like such a calling to be free and true to yourself no matter how gritty or loud or scary people may find you. your authentic self is needed, the feral witch within who was broken down and stigmatized rises up.

Story time: I was sitting down watching this on a repeating loop (because 2 minutes isn’t long enough and it makes me slightly feel like a bitter woman who was choked that she only got 2 minutes of s** from a man) when suddenly my girlfriend comes into the room trying to get my attention. It took her 5 minutes to finally get my attention and when she did, I simply glanced over at her for a quick second before watching the video again and I said, “no offence but I love Florence more than you right now.” And I heard her say, “okay that’s cool. Just don’t cheat on me with her.” Only then did I put my phone down. I stared her dead in the face and then said “Believe me, if I ever have the opportunity, I totally will.” Then we both broke out in laughter.
I see it as an album opener.
I think it's just a teaser, that when the album comes out it will be longer...that's just my guess but I'm not sure..
I want it to stay small, not ever song should be the same length. This message is short and punchy, downright abrupt to match the theme.

i love that the movements from the OA are in this song. the OA was a really powerful story, i think it helped alot of people in a lot of different ways. it’s disappointing they stopped producing the show considering how well it was going for netflix and the producers. and it clearly had a beautiful impact, maybe that’s why they stopped producing it.

Someone wrote on the What the Water Gave Me video that she must be either mad or a genius. This song and performance finally convinced me that she is both - in the most lyrical, creative and beautiful sense. Love this band! Love all the artists that contributed to this piece of art! Flannery O’Connor once said that ‘Florence may not be Christ centred, but she is certainly Christ haunted’. As many good artists often are. No one takes us to the places you do. A desperately needed artist for today. Organic, furious and beautiful. I have been excited for the moment Florence would take the spoken word plunge - which I always felt she wanted to but perhaps wasn’t ready until now. @@playfulstuff9141 thank God somebody does. We’re just already so tired of all the sanctions, we are almost left in full isolation and many people still think it’s not enough. Most of the sanctions actually doesn’t concern the people who deserve them, who actually ‘make decisions’. These are ordinary people who reap what the authorities sow. I know it’s nothing compared to what’s happening in Ukraine, but still it hurts.
Those kind of songs are the light shining through the dark that - at times and sometimes at lenghts - befall us all as we wander this earth, confined to our mortal bodies.

I saw the end noises as being the sound of her hanging from a rope, the slight movements of her body adding to that of her swaying
At 0:17 I recognized that style of beautiful choreography instantly: The OA! Despite that show being sadly gone, it makes me happy to see Ryan's movements that remind me of it here. Absolutely wonderful video, and I hope Marine and Nastia are safe.

This is the first time since her debut album that I've been genuinely blown away by Florence. THIS is the kind of music I've wanted from her forever. This voice deserves this level of creativity.
The choreography is fantastic; raw and vulnerable. I can feel and connect to the inner, brutal rage of the woman here. Florence always brings out the most inner parts of the soul and puts them to words. Bravo!

I love and adore her music I let my daught watch the lighter songs and show her what real artists are and how they work with their lives and videos. She adores her although I probably wouldn't take her to one of their shows. But I'm thinking I probably could she love the music.I like her to know what a real artist with ability and the fact to me that she seems so down to earth. The story in the song came to me last night in a dream. It's a group of witches putting a curse on the town right before being hung. The sound effects bring the whole thing together, down to her last gasping breaths after the board floor gives out and she's hung.
She is channeling something fierce here. I love it.
