Michael. Buyers of new homes built by reputable developers pay for Homebond structural defect insurance as part of their purchase price. Why are “self builders” (who appear not to have bothered paying for similar insurance) being fully bailed out by the state? What did these self builders spend the money that should have gone towards homebond insurance on? Deposits for financed cars? Flat screen TVs? In light of their corner cutting, it’s particularly galling that the state is paying 100% of costs for these risk-taking self builders.
