Wasn't clear enough in this video on the input for roll. It is performed by doing back, downback, down + punch button. There needs to be a button at the end of the motion to perform the roll.

When should you straight up counter, as opposed to pushblocking before the counter? Or does that matter?

@@hornejr10 Whichever is more beneficial at the time. When you guard push, you drive the opponent back. The guard-push is still considered blocking, so it's cancellable. This can be deadly with Cable on anti-air in the back. Cable goes into the air with the scimitar. That scimitar is something you want to miss if you're countering in Cable-b. If it hits, it will lift the intended victim of AHVB [Cable's air super] away before you can get the cancel and shoot them. If you guard push to drive an attack back, you could theoretically cancel it into a scimitar that will miss. You can then cancel it into an AHVB [Air Hyper Viper Beam, or his air super] which can be linked back to back depending on the character 4 or more times. If the attack is from a projectile or something far enough away, the guard push is unnecessary. Just block and alpha counter [back, down-back, down] + assist button, cancel the forced special that occurs once Cable is off the ground, and you can blast the projectile throwing character for it.

Been loving your series of tips since I've been getting into MvC2 through fightcade. I fell in love with it back in like 2006, but no one in NC was truly grinding it so I defaulted to 3S. Feels good to get back into it 15 years later and see so much content being churned out for it.

good video, one question: do you want to roll every chance you get? or are there times you don't want to roll?

There are situations where not rolling is advantageous...for example not rolling from a super that leaves you full screen away is better than rolling into them for them to potentially mix you up. It's situational for sure but alot of the time rolling is a safe option.

When rolling, do you press Low punch or Hi?
