It is so nice to hear a trusty busty friend help me figure out how to knit garments for myself. Ive felt rather discouraged after watching many videos of woman who were not shaped similarly and just say "go braless".... Oh no honey. Some of us can't 😂
I know! Sometimes it's easier to trust someone who has a similar 'shape' 😁 and understands!
I’d end up with a pair of black eyes if I went braless 😂
The rolled hem used in Patty's pattern, I call the "fake I-cord" its looks very similar, but easier and faster. I use that a lot too.
Thanks for sharing your summer knits and all your experience with us! I learn a lot from your videos and appreciate your many lessons in making garments that fit.
You are so welcome!
I absolutely love and appreciate your education focus approach to your videos. Thank you so much for showing us pictures of your knits so we can see actual fit and how modifications (or lack thereof) work in real life. I'm a baby-baby knitter, working on my 3rd garment (summer T) and have zero confidence about adjusting a pattern. At this point, i don't understand what I don't understand yet. :) Fun fact, I didn't even know that you should use recommended yarn, and just used what I bought on sale and thought was pretty. I did at least stay in the fiber family (wool for wool, cotton for cotton, though I might use a different blend such as merino with nylon (mistakes were made, first sweater, it actually shrunk during blocking and I gave it to goodwill without ever wearing it) Yes, very much enjoying the education!
Thanks for this. I would love to learn how to modify a cardigan for my large bust.
That's on my to-do list!
It’s nice to hear not only the “how” regarding modifications, but the “why”. The more I watch your very informative mods/tips etc, light bulbs go off in my brain! Aha moments! I’ve seen the reverse st st edges years ago, and now that I’m narrowing down my summer top/tee/camisole pattern queue, this will be utilized!
Bit by bit, I’m watching various videos (topics) and thank you for explaining the Why. I can read/watch the How… but at times, my brain can’t “see” in 3-D when I try to put down on paper (sketches, diagrams or charts).
Your explanations help, although I would probably NOT blindly re-work a pattern. I’d find one that closely fits what I want/need, and then modify. I feel more confident now, and I thank you!
I'm glad you found it helpful!
Collin’s Tee is an easy knit using a gradient and solid color yarns. I’ve been knitting in a charm cotton yarn Laura Dobratz is the designer .
Thanks for the recommendation - I hadn't heard of that one!
I’m so glad I found your channel. I’m learning so much and your episodes are so enjoyable. You do a really nice job presenting - very articulate and conversational - which must be hard to do in a one way conversation. I’m new to knitting but you have inspired me to someday do the master course. I love to nerd out on topics that interest me!
Welcome, Dara! I'm glad you found the channel too! It can be a bit weird talking to the camera but you get used to it eventually. 😁
All your summer tees are beautiful. You explain all the alterations so well and with pictures, is so good to see. I just finished Drops Halo tee, same yellow shade. I ripped back to near the underarms and started adding stitches instead of decreasing, didn't want too form fitting. But I liked the lacey part at the top. Thanks for all your teaching.
Thank you so much!
There is such joy and comfort, in listening to your talk about knitting. ❤
Aww, thank you, Emma! What a sweet comment. ❤️
I love the explanations on adjustments, I find it really helpful to understand how we need to change a general pattern to fit our unique bodies and preferences.
Glad it was helpful!
I love seeing patterns and you gave a lot of useful info! I love that you have videos of you modeling your finished garments. I like to see how garments fit on different body types. However, I don’t find single pictures at odd angles or odd poses as useful so I love that you actually used video. Thanks so much for a fun video to watch! 😊
You are so welcome! I'm glad you found it helpful!
Many thanks 🍀🍀🍀
Just discovered your channel and I absolutely LOVED listening. So informative, fantastic teaching and, may I add, you are a beautiful lady. 🙂
I plan on binge watching your videos tomorrow. 🙂
Welcome!
This is awesome and helpful in so many ways. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Your glass of ice tea is on me! Thanks so much.
Thank you, Darlene! I appreciate the support. ❤️
For your purple sweater which you want to re-knit, I wonder if frogging only to the top of lace pattern, or perhaps just a bit beyond would give you enough room to make the adjustments for a now smaller bust and neckline. The bottom could stay extra -breezy.
What a great idea! I hadn't even thought about doing that but that sounds perfect. Thank you!!
My favorite summer knits: Peacock tee and sommerknus. Also enjoy wearing camisole No 4.
So glad to hear I am not alone with gauge issues with the summer plant fibers. My first one, top down I had to go to a 0 needle to get gauge and I decided I was NOT going to knit with a fingering weight on a 0. So, I am knitting a small or xtra small to get a large. Not done yet. So, I went to another one, bottom up, I am knitting a small to get a large. I have done 3” and then wet blocked it, it seems to be good. I am hoping to get something I am happy with. Also, thanks for the info on saddle shoulders, i am currently looking for a pattern with saddle shoulders to see how they fit.
It certainly is an adventure using your own gauge, isn't it?!
Well done!
Thank you!
Thank you for this informative and fun video! I don’t think I can tempt the purple top yet on my level but I love seeing your knitting. Please make videos on how you make your knits look so neat, it’s all about picking up stitches and binding off, which I don’t like!
I managed to do the math and get my own gauge in my first or second sweater two years ago. I’m still learning the techniques 😉 I’ve tried bust darts and waist darts but not sure if I did right, so I’d love to see a video on that too! Thank you ❤
Thank you for sharing! I definitely have added a couple to my ever growing list! I so appreciate you mentioning your modifications. 💜
Wonderful! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video.
This was very informative and demonstrates what an adventurous knitter you are! It is always a pleasure to listen to your episodes. By the way, I brought my Level 1 box to the post office yesterday. It was exciting and scary at the same time.
Looking forward to your next video 😊.
J
Congrats on completing Level 1! 🎉 That's a HUGE accomplishment (and now you can relax and have time for some 'civilian knitting'). 😉
All the tops are beautiful. I especially like the white and speckled one. No spaghetti eating in that though lol. Thanks again Happy summer.
Haha - definitely no spaghetti eating in that top! 😆
Thanks for sharing! Your projects are gorgeous!
Thank you so much!
Thanks!
Thank you, Dara! I really appreciate the support. ❤️
Lovely episode. I learn so much from you. Thanks.
You're welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I just discovered your podcast and love it. You have given me so much useful information. We have had a very hot summer up here so I have been knitting sleeveless tops. I love them, but at 71 years old I would like something to cover my arms when I go out and about. Do you have any recommendations for pattens for sweaters or jackets etc. that can go over these tops so that I can wear them when the weather gets cooler? I have subscribed to your site and look forward to going back and checking out previous podcasts. ❤
I would look for lightweight sweaters knit with fingering or sock weight yarn.
I would love to learn HOW to make adjustments. Would you ever consider a KAL where you show us what you do and we could do it with you?
I've been thinking about that - I'm just not sure HOW to do it! I'm certainly open to suggestions/ideas!
@@NerdyKnitting I've only knit a couple sweaters and they really could have benefited from customization.
I'll keep thinking about how we could do this as a KAL. It sounds like a great idea, just not sure how it would work.
I would really like to learn how to make the adjustments to make A-Line shapes in every garment! Do you think we could do that?
I'll add it to my long list but I can sum it up here - I generally choose one size in the pattern for my bust but then look at the stitch count for the next size up. I figure out how many stitches that is and how many increase rounds I have to work to get to that number then I estimate how many rounds total for the desired length and divide that by the number of increase rounds to distribute them evenly.
@@NerdyKnitting Thank you! We appreciate you teaching us.
Great video! Greetings from Alberta. Would you please consider doing a video on summer yarns? I don't like to knit with pure cotton, for example, though my cotton experience is very limited. It's just so stiff. Are there any plant fibre/other fibre combo yarns out there, for example, that approach the feel of knitting with wool? I'd love to know your thoughts. Wool is just so perfectly springy and quickest to knit with, right?!
That sounds like a great video idea! I'll add it to my list but I'm not sure I'll be getting to it anytime soon. As far as what I like - I like cotton and cotton blends. If you look for pima cotton - that is fairly soft (still not as elastic as wool, though), along with linen or bamboo - basically the plant fibers!
You look gorgeous in all your knitted tops. 👍🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘
Thank you for addressing the modifications you made and why you used them. I am attempting to knit my first t-shirt this summer and I’m a bit bustier than what the t-shirt calls for. Thankfully knit from top-down so short row shaping may have to be used. Thank you so much!
Luv the detailed info on ur FO. Have u done a tutorial on fusion/fusion knitting by Mary Martin Knits? It's not explained too well for my old mind. Thanks for sharing.
I've never heard of it!
@@NerdyKnitting She's on YT w the name I gave u. I really would luv to hear ur thoughts about this. Her AV is not very simple for me. My brain is old.😊 I'm still in beginner mode but this was interesting. I'm also into shadow or illusion knitting. I really like the final pattern design. The shadow was easy for me but fusion is still confusing. Thanks for ur knowledge and expertise. Ur pod is very thorough and easy on this old brain. ☺️
I love your videos. They are so informative. Could you please explain again what you mean in the 19th Minute of the video. What makes this nice rolled edge or what the name of this technique? It looks so nice. It looks simimar to icord edge but i personally fidn it too bold. The 2-Stitch icord (if i do it right) curls on the bottom of my cumulus tee by petit knit.
It's just a few slipped stitches - works really well with this top!
@@NerdyKnitting no i mean the whole edge shaping, im more of a beginnet and im not that far. Does a specific tutprial exist for this kind of edging?
Thank you so much for these!! On the summer swing top is there ease added in or is it the finished bust measurement with no ease?
She doesn't recommend a specific amount of ease so the garment measurements are listed as finished measurements (up to you to decide how much ease you want).
Thank you!!
This is one of your best videos on fit there anyway to convert charts to written text? I hate charts and do much better with written instructions. I avoid patterns with charts I have enlarged the charts, tried knit companion(I need a piece of paper), so frustrating to constantly go back and forth from stitch legend to chart then to the fabric that help
If you look up knitting chart software you'll find some options. If you create the chart in a program it can create written instructions based on the chart. Every program is different so you might have to play around until you find one you like.
