And that’s all the Homunculi Dead:
Lust died at the hands of a man with a reputation as a womanizer but was actually saving the woman he loved but can never physically be with
    Gluttony was eaten
Envy committed suicide out of humiliation after realizing his deep jealousy of humans
    Sloth died overexerting himself
Wrath died with a sense of peace
Pride was destroyed after attempting to escape into the body of the very thing he looked down upon, throwing away his pride
Greed sacrificed himself for the one thing he’s always wanted the most, friends

“That’s the right answer” basically means that Ed finally found “the truth” it’s so beautiful that at the beginning of the series Ed thinks he can fix a lot with Alchemy and worked hard to gain knowledge, and in the first chapter he even said alchemists are comparable to gods but in the end he states that he is just a human, alchemy doesn’t change that fact, and the most important thing in life is “not alchemy”, it’s your humanity and connections, we saw that through Ed sacrificing his alchemy for his brother, obtaining the truth
Such a brilliant message delivered by the greatest force in the show, God/Truth

God was so proud of Edward that he smiled wider than he ever had. One of the first times his own creation willingly threw away the gift of knowledge, of alchemy, for his own human connections. To go back to the roots of what makes Ed a human, and God had witnessed it with his own unseen eyes.
Hell, he might even be crying with pride if he had the visible ability to do so. Pride for someone younger than you failing over and over, getting back up every time, then confronting you and becoming exactly who you hoped they would be.

15:02 The truth DID recognize that Roy didnt open the portal willingly. Thats why instead of taking his eyes like it did to everyone who opened the portal, it only took his ability to see. A price, but not a full one.

It was not always body parts. In Ed’s case the ability to put one foot in front of the other was his thing (you see that more in FMA2006) and Roy’s case he was a person with vision (as he told Hughes) so he lost his vision. Poetic more the anatomical.

Truth is based around a more middle eastern and eastern concept of god. In those cultures, god is a more neutral being. It offers punishment and rewards based on actions performed. Mustang went through the portal, he opened the doors, forced or otherwise, he got his eyesight taken. Which can be easily brought back with alchemy if you know how human anatomy works, they just convert one of the less used tissues into retina. If he opened it of his own accord, his entire eyes would've been gone. Since selim forced it, selim's container was also slowly being destroyed. The concept of god in eastern and middle eastern culture is not as black and white as it is in the west. So think of the Truth in FMAB as something like that. A mostly neutral being, kind of a trickster and just rewards and punishes based on actions performed. That is all there is to it

It seems to have been inspired by greek philosophy as well. Truth is the one universally recognized aspect of god in Philosophy, as wisdom should lead you to the truth. Most of the great philosophers believe in attaining truth as the ultimate good, but they also focus on being virtuous in this pursuit. The dwarf in the flask is a perfect example of the wrong way to go about seeking wisdom and truth.

I love Ed exchanging his portal of truth:
    1) because this is subtly foreshadowed because the door of truth appears behind whoever visits the area, symbolising that it is theirs
    2) the reason there is a 'back door' for Ed to use is because Al is there in body and soul, complete with his own door of truth
    3) what is the intrinsic "value" of things being traded in equivalent exchange? it turns out that the true value in something is the value we attribute to it ourselves; Ed idolized alchemy as being the answer to all his problems, so it was one of the things most important to him, and to Truth it was worth the value of a whole life, because that's how much Ed valued it before his realization
    4) this is technically something Ed could have done all along from the beginning of their journey, but he was convinced that alchemy was the answer and so kept trying to find way to get their bodies back without sacrificing something, but only through the journey and learning the true value of human life could he understand that the power he valued so much meant nothing by comparison

Truth punished ed and al for entering the domain of "GOD" by trying to bring their mom back. At the end when ed said that "He has always been a lowly human" which means they can't play and enter the domain of god. Which father failed by trying to obtain god.
That was probably the whole conversation and parallels between ed, father and truth.

Yep. I love how Arakawa included realistic but often ignored stuff like the battle of public opinion or the way the coup d'état could socially destabilize the country. The lie was probably for the best, Mustang or Armstrong could not gather any evidence of the homonculi since they disappear into dust when they die. If they had said the truth people could have not believed them and rebel, or there would have been a huge crisis of confidence of the people to their elite (just imagine feeling being born in a country made with the only aim to sacrifice you and all your fellows).

In a way it is a happy ending for Hohenheim. Instead of outlasting his family and having to experience heartbreak again, his life ends on probably the happiest he'd ever been since he met Trisha. Edward finally acknowledged him as a father, and didn't want to sacrifice him to bring back Al because he did actually care about him. And in the end he can get to be with Trisha in the world beyond, which is one of the key reasons why he wanted to end his immortality. He's just a little wistful that he couldn't get to see his sons grow into young men with families of their own.

Father sought freedom and knowledge, but in the end he is forever trapped and knows nothing more than he did when he was in the flask. I really love the line where Truth tells him that his punishment is for the boastful and those who would seek to supplant God; pretty much turning his own words he said to Ed, Mustang, and Izumi against him.
Edit: They covered up Bradley's death because if it was known he was part of Father's plot, there would be an uprising to overthrow the military and Amestris would fall apart and likely be invaded by it's neighbors.

I've seen Truth/God in FMA Brotherhood in a kind of balancer/humbler role. Normal achamay can use exchange from physical materials, but acts like human transmutation both attempting to play 'god' and no material can equal a human sole (except another soul or a person's gate of truth). Remember how Truth punishement's had an ironic twist to those whom preformed the acts. Al lost his body, Rory lost his sight when he wanted to be the Fruther, Izumi lost the ability to have childern, etc). Father attempted to become god from false view of superiority while subconciously rejecting his true wishes (Remember how he said whatever Greed desire he wanted it first and his true want was simply human friendship/connections? That applies to all of them in both what they most wanted in existance and hated about humanity) I think he realized it for a second when Truth threw back his words on the price of arrogance-but still refused to admit it while calling to Truth to give him the right choice. In contrast, Ed realized that no much how power he had he was still simply a human connected to them around him and gave up his Gate-that which repesented everything that made him 'superior' to people like Whitny. And so Truth allowed him to take back its equal value, Al's body or humanity

I think the being in the dimension of truth is the embodiment of everyone's personal quest for the meaning in life, because of the way in how Edward won was just by, well, setting out to live life like everyone else, no alchemy, schemes or cheats just life as it should be with all of its bad things and all of its good things.

Lust: Dies to a man who has a reputation for being a lady killer in order to protect the one woman in his life that he held romantic affection for but could not touch.
Gluttony: Is callously devoured by one of his brethren for no real reason other than the fact that they considered him a hindrance.
Envy: Their jealousy of humans is exposed by one of the most empathetic members of the cast who has good reason to be jealous of others, yet refuses to sacrifice anybody in order to regain what they have lost.
Sloth: Fought by the most bombastic characters of the cast, all of which made the choice to continue striving forward and refusing to wallow in stagnation.
Wrath: Dies at the hands of a man once consumed and blinded with rage, but has now made his peace with his past and his desire for revenge.
Pride: His attempt to escape to another body is prevented by a man that tells no lies about what he is, and never pretends to be anything more than that.
Greed: Sacrifices himself, giving up everything he has including his very soul, in order to save the one thing he had always desired - true friends.

God, this gets me every time.
One is all, and all is one.
Father saw "God" as an object to be acquired. This "truth is separate from the self" philosophy led him to divide himself further, seeking to reflect his own image of God. In doing so, he actually destroyed his "truth" because, as we get it right from the source: "I am one, I am all, and I am you."
Father sought to "comprehend"/contain God, and neglected to comprehend himself. He wanted to be the One to encompass All. His pathetic nature is revealed in the simple fact that it never occurred to him that "truth" was within him already. Instead of becoming one whole being, he cut away at himself until he was nothing at all.
Ed, on the other hand, never accepting an objective, impossible truth, found *his* truth. And, in understanding himself, and the connections he shared, and his place in the world, he understood the whole world.
One is all, and all is one. Become one, and you become all. Understand yourself, understand the world.
    God, I love this show.

I agree. I see it like the whole self of each people : the parts we like and the ones we dislike, the conscious and the inconscious ones, etc ... and the link we have between our self and the whole universe around. Somehow Truth is at the same time our self, our place within the universe and our meaning of life. And if Truth tells you that you have won, that only mean that you are at peace with you and the world (which I find far more interesting than to win anything, imo).

And as cool as the fight against Father's dumb bad plan is, the way Ed overcomes The Truth is so good, because how else do you defeat something that impossible?

The big question is what the portal actually is... it’s never really explained... but it’s more than just alchemy. It might actually be a great sacrifice for Ed to have traded it away... the portal of truth held al’s soul, and gave punishment to the dwarf in the flask. Truth is also known as god/the universe, so by getting rid of his connection might mean that he’s thrown away any afterlife he may have had. We’ve not seen it, but it is possible that the portal might give positive rewards as well as negative punishments. So by lowering himself to a lowly human he cast aside his connection to the all and the one. His soul may be damned to oblivion.

God in this show seems to have been inspired by Greek philosophy. Truth is the one universally recognized aspect of god in Philosophy, as wisdom should lead you to the truth. Most of the great philosophers believe in attaining truth as the ultimate good, but they also focus on being virtuous in this pursuit. The 4 Cardinal Virtues; Courage, Temperance, Wisdom and Justice were made by Socrates. The dwarf in the flask is a perfect example of the wrong way to go about seeking wisdom and truth.

The God The One The world, there is a very good fans explanation which is base of the idea "The God made everyone in god's image", so there is the whole name calling speech also the fact that "The god" keep changing into different shape. When Ed and Al in the truth room, the god is in a teen human form while father is in it, "the god" turns into the ball shape like father, so in fact the truth the god is everything and you thats what i think is one of the better explanation .
