Agree, also people paying thousands to be a ‘VIP’. You’re not a very important person, you’re a mug! If you were important to the club you would be invited for free.
I haven't seen Vaughn for over 25 years from when i lived on the island, good to see he's doing well, and will look forward to listening to the full podcast, funky room in Pacha was my spot!
Ibiza was dead and buried by the mid 90s the underground vibe had turned in a commercial money making machine for punters who don't know no better. And as for the scene now its truly disgusting whats become of it, its just zombies with phones videoing talentless DJ's who care more about themselves than moving the crowd on the dancefloor.
I first went in 1997 and last went in 2004, visiting in 1999 and 2002 as well. The music was never less than excellent. Having been more interested in the UK hardcore raves when I first started going out in 1992, only getting into the house clubs in 1995 after going to Cream in as the music became more electronic and progressive. By the end of the decade it was completely commercial but I am interested in good dance music of most genres, as having paid to get into every club or venue since my first all night experience at Dreamscape 2 save for a few free parties that are thrown around the local countryside, I have been going to commercial, money making events and cannt claim to understand what the underground vibe is. I witnessed the crazy fast hardcore that resulted from the messy vibe the flood of those 'Snowball' pills caused (being just lumps of MDA) in 1993 transform into Jungle by the time summer 94 arrived, but I paid to get into all of those gaffs as well. The vibe on any night could be amazing, moody as fuck or ok save for the dickheads, the underground music at Dreamscape 7 on NYE 93 consisted of many records that were commercialised pop music by my next visit to the Sanctuary for DS 11 in July. I totally get what you are saying about the phones but I love a good night out dancing to electronic music thats proper. So many records born from the underground end up as commercial pop that I have never felt the 2 concepts were mutually exclusive. I started out as a silly prick who designed a new hi vis jacket for every showcase I attended during the first 18 months I went out and ended up as a silly prick by making the effort to go to the last night Godskitchen put on in Birmingham, having fallen in love with the promoters after the first Friday they put on at the Institute in April 1998. If the music does the trick, then I have no problem making a good night of it provided no one insists that I am at a fake night that isn't as good as the real ones they used to have.
Never a truer word spoken! It’s all about the money now Bora Bora beach closing , for me , was the start of Ibiza losing that special free ‘just dance ‘ vibe. Having lived in Ibiza & seeing that change was soul destroying. I’m glad I had the best times & the ‘old ‘ ibiza . Iv not been back since I left 4 years ago. It’s so good to hear true talk from an old ‘ original’ & all the old names being mentioned. Peace & love . Tracy & Simon . Leicesterfarians ex old Ibicinco’s ❤️❤️
I felt this this year, I’ve been going to Ibiza consecutively for years, but 60 euro entrance and 38 euro for a single vodka and lemonade and a bottle of water in pasha told me I won’t be going back. No wonder it was quieter this year
That happened to me. My and my "mates" were in amnesia and vodka and red bull were like 30 euro each. We were all on e's, and three "mates" decided they didn't want the vod and red bulls after they were poured. They disappeared. Bouncers put me out. I haven't heard from the boys in years. Ibiza is a rip off. That was in 2009. The cheapest nite club I went to was 45 euro entry. I think manumission was 90 euro for a couple hours
The man like Verne! So glad i lived, breathed & loved Ibiza with him & the real ravers & manumissiin crew! Best years of my life 98- 08 Glad youre still there Verne. The island is dead on its arse now. Been back a few times over the last few years but each time its just been beige & plastic & full of tossers
I was In Ibiza 88/89 never been back because of the ballshit and ballocks this fella is talking about Ibiza is all about glitz and glamour not the music 🎧 and the people and more importantly DANCING 💜✌️🙏
I worked in ibiza from 98 did 5 years on doors did two seasons working the doors at manumision had a great time ...I remember being downstairs with the the happy Mondays...doing loads of gear with them before they went on stage...they were all smashed...lol.... He's right what he says was a real love for the music back then...and the prices now in ibiza are ridiculous...seen my old boss Julian on a vid not long back talking about key workers not being able to afford to live on the island anymore....sad state of affairs
Vaughan is a great guy. When I was clubbing he would give us guest list for Pacha in the 90s. The Funky Room was brilliant, RIP Nick. I still see Vaughan around St Eulalia at Kandani with his Chopper bike. I’ve lived back and forth up near Cala Nova for 18 years but not been to a name club since 2004, don’t fancy the phones and staring at DJs routine.
Clockwork Orange in July is the best time to go Ibiza now,Oldskool Crowd who know their music and know how to have a party, see you all in July 25! ⏰🍊😎🙌
The ‘scene’ originated in the jeans/trainers/t-shirt wearing working classes. Not €45 a pop drinks - how has it become so removed from its origins? Haven’t been inside a club since 93 when I was 18 as was already going wrong then.
Bang on..I'm a 63 year old DJ still living and working in Greece and we are going down the same road, how times have changed and not for the better, I WOULDNT have put a DJ in our toilets, they were horrendous, we are living in shit times.
it's Ibiza. It's Williamsburg. It's Silverlake. It's the Mission. It's inevitable. The world peaked in the 90's early 00's. I lived a crazy wild life in the music biz for 20 years. Changed careers. That life will only. leave you with memories and hopefully $$ if you were smart about it. It gets old and so do you
fella has a voice that shows that he has lead far far far faaaar too much of that life..... live so much of that life that he put his jeans on his head!
"EVIL EDDIE RICHARDS MAAAASSSIVE IN DA HOUSE!" Feat: E.Mix. Eddie Richards was my mates neighbour in Bletchley, Bucks. Still got original tapes from Outer limits, timeless!!! 🙃🙃🙃
The Ibiza bubble has to burst at some point! Long gone are the good ole days! Vaughan’s funky room was always full of real people and amazing music! I was lucky enough to work for all the clubs worth going to in my day, Pacha being one of them. And I can honestly say they were the best days of my life! Being able to walk into these places as a guest and a friend gave you the best feeling. Knowing you were part of something real, unpretentious and among people that were there for the music" I sincerely miss Ibiza and all that I loved about what I was a part of at that time. It’s still a beautiful island with some of my most favourite spots on the planet. But what it’s turned into is a crying shame 😢 I’d only ever go back in the winter now. Once the dickheads have gone home! RIP clubbing as a culture and a movement 💔
Yes Ibiza is becoming a "Brave New World" experiment for the stupid rich, not the music lovers. Imagine the money passing through the island now, obscene. Ive been a regular for many years now and the clubs are a disgrace pricewise and the attitude is boring.. Being 50 I now go for the island itself, head up North and get lost of a day then nice stroll around before eating. If there's a party tucked away it's always nice. Pacha charging 200e at the door recently .. Not the Ibiza I choose to fund anymore. See you on the island but it wont be in a "super club".
Oh my! vaughn...I used to live near you with PJ/ Hugh (i left him there btw 😂) many years ago! 1997/8..look forward to hearing the full interview..uses to love the Funky Room
Dodge - No idea who this bloke is but his values are joined at the hip with mine. Never been to Ibiza and from the sound of things I'd only go there to have drink and chin wag with him. You've whet my appetite, see you tomorrow. 👍👍
What Manumission did to 'KU' is unforgivable. As soon as they started doing their thing, I knew that it was all over. Anyone that knew the score back then, wouldn't have been seen dead in Manumission. It was the polar opposite of what 'clubbing' in Ibiza was all about. Manumission took 'KU' and ruined it. Plus...Pikes Hotel is NOT Pikes without Tony. Another place that is being disrespected and abused. They take famous venues and f#@k them up big time. 0 respect.
Completely agree with everything you said mate and you are a true legend, but what the bleedinell are you wearing jeans on your head for!? You look like a right Wrangler 😉
Great guest! I had many a great night in the Funky room of Pacha back in the day. It's a shame that the club has been gentrified like everything else in Ibiza. They all look the same now and have the same dancefloor, same sound system, same lighting, and hoards of kids with phones - It could be any club anywhere in the world. In the 90s, it looked like Pacha. The last promoter to do anything interesting in Ibiza was Dave Vincent with Sankeys @ Steve Lawlers night Viva Warriors; and that was probably 10 years ago. He would be a good character for the podcast!
This cat is spot on was my first time staying in Ibiza pushed the boat out & stayed at Ushuaia spent thousands just staying at the hotel only then to be told its a minimum €3000 bar tab to hang in the VIP upstairs area where incidentally nobody was using. A total rip off thousands of beautiful people profiling looking at there phones constantly updating their instagram would have met nicer people going to a southport butlins weekender.
€200 Euros to get into Pacha ... to be packed in like Sardines and no dancing. What happens when a Dubai hedge fund owns Ibiza.... Really looking forward to this one 👍
Social media has made people think they are important when they are nobody's.
Agree, also people paying thousands to be a ‘VIP’. You’re not a very important person, you’re a mug! If you were important to the club you would be invited for free.
When you get older, you realise most people aren’t interested in what you’re doing.
I bow to the fantastic comment never a truer statement made I completely agree 👍
Imagine wearing someone's old pants as a hat on your head 😂
And do not forget the dumbo wings 😂
Someone should tell him. Maybe he doesn’t know. Doesn’t look good in this day and age
I can't wait to see the full podcast of this tomorrow! It's going to be absolute 🔥
We can’t wait for you all to watch the full episode Wednesday 6pm… it’s off the charts 📈😉

I haven't seen Vaughn for over 25 years from when i lived on the island, good to see he's doing well, and will look forward to listening to the full podcast, funky room in Pacha was my spot!
DJ was better in a box some where you couldnt see them, when it was all about the music & body movin.

RIP Ibiza run on greed for show offs
Agreed. And people think today is better than back then! 😂😂 Y2K was the last great year. After that it's never recovered.
Never a truer word spoken!

Great to see you out of the studio for a change! A beautiful setting and a very relevant sounding chat. Look forward to the full interview.
WHAT a fascinating, interesting person...Nice teaser... Deffo on the full episode...
Trouble is, people will pay €24 for a shot just to post it on their socials! Sad world we live in now

It really is Martin 💥
Finally a man who speaks the truth about the island. I visited a lot from 87 to 03 and saw it change. I wouldn’t go back.
I felt this this year, I’ve been going to Ibiza consecutively for years, but 60 euro entrance and 38 euro for a single vodka and lemonade and a bottle of water in pasha told me I won’t be going back. No wonder it was quieter this year
So looking forward to this, fella is bang on the money. Mugs think the islands soul can be bought and displayed on insta

We went there when Mel C was there, so refreshing without phones🥰. Agree on those ridiculous drinks prices at the big clubs!
I’ll be watching this one 😎
This guy seems spot on, he tells it how it is by the sounds of it 🤝

Well said 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
100% speaks facts, the island has lost its way, it's too commercial now and lost all of its charm

Yeah you need to cough up if you’re not actually a vip.
This guy is my kind of guy! Authentic and fair. No bullshit. Love him
Vaughan and pippi were pacha as far as I’m concerned.
I don’t know who this guy is but I like the cut of his jip !
Not gonna lie I loved manumission, great night. 🙌🏻
