Good review. When creating a view, you can also drop two (or more) cameras on the same window and it will alternate the images according to your settings. I believe the default is 10 seconds.
Great review as always man! I've put a bunch out there now and I think $199 is fair vs a mini computer and issues running one... A lot of people asked about sound and rotating cameras in a view and I can confirm it will do both. I'm gonna add a couple in our office renovation, I like it that much...
I mean if you’re using it at a business it’s well worth the price. But for home use I would rather get an Apple TV or nvidia shield that way I could use it for movies as well as viewing my cameras. It works flawless though and I’ll be installing them in businesses I support
It's a little high for the price but nothing like this has been out there. I mean security cameras require NVR or DVR to connect to a monitor or TV via HDMI. But connecting ethernet to HDMI is another level.
Is there no way to have it set up to be on between 9am-9pm and show a slideshow of pictures. Then whenever there is motion show the cameras? This would make a lot of sense?
I like it, but its a little pricey, I use my nvidia shield and use the unifi protect app and all tvs with either a android box or apple tv can see the cameras, just dont get the customization like you do with the viewport. Would you be able to do a review for the app on the shield tv?
Hey Chris, I was actually thinking about doing it month ago and never did. I find the app on the shield isnt nearly as good as the viewport but you can do multiple things with the shield. I may revisit it and do a video on it
Nice Video. It would be nice if Unifi would just update their AppleTV app for Portect. You can have the same data with no ethernet connection. I wonder if the video feeds still work during a WAN outage? That would be the only positive for this device. Just sucks when you have (5) AppleTV's deployed with the Unified App but can't change the default view and to do that you have to run (5) cat6 drops and buy (5) $199 Unifi Viewports. Seems like a $$$ grab ... just saying.
I have the viewport set up with about seven cameras at my home and I’ve noticed that after having a view port connections for approximately 24 hours the pictures on all the cameras start to pause and freeze. I have to power cycle the viewport for it to start working again. I contacted unifi support and they advise me to RMA the device after receiving the new device it does the exact same thing. Wondering if you’ve noticed the same thing
I have the same issue. Running 10 cameras on one view and after about a few days the video feed starts to “lag”. I have to reboot the view port every 6 days or so. At first I thought a simple software update would resolve the issue but that was not the case as it’s been over a year of ownership
Same here. Won't waste my time with an RMA. They've not done a lot to support it either in terms of updates, which seems to be par for the course with Ubiquiti not being particularly speedy with fixes. Holding out hope they do fix it; there was acknowledgement on their forums of the problem by UI so it IS known.
Are you still experiencing freeze ups after a day or two and have to power cycle it ? I’m debating to buy one if there ever in stock, but not liking the fact that it was mentioned it has freezing pictures as time goes on . I’ll be running five G4 pros and one G3pro . I’m wondering if the 4K cameras will create problems
Hey! Thanks for the awesome video! IS IT POSSIBLE TO TAKE UNIFi PROTECT VIEWPORT OUTSIDE ITS NETWORK TO ANOTHER NETWORK AND SEE THE CAMERAS FROM THERE? ` For example, I want to bring UniFi Protect ViewPort to my office and monitor my home while I'm not at home? Thanks so much!
can you change views when looking at the TV without using the computer? For instants you have a 6 view up on screen as a default and you see something on one of the smaller views. can you switch to that view ONLY as one large view on the screen. or would this be better accomplished with an apple TV or nvidia shield running the Protect App? TIA
So you could pass tru to another view port and connect to two monitors? I guess if you do it that way they have the same settings. Or separate ports for different monitors so it could be set separately. How else would you use the pass thru. Thanks.
I can't believe that Unifi has still not addressed the issue of incompatibility with the AI360. You cannot display a dewarped stream, only the fisheye view. This pretty much makes this a useless item for me now that I have it. I need to show multiple dewarped streams. The have not even commented on this in the community pages, though it has been an open issue for over a year. Do you have any ideas or info?
Did they fix the switching bug? You can have cameras switching (transition) back and forth in the controller but it wouldn't work on the Viewport. I put my Viewport back in the box in my shop's closet months ago because of that bug and just use a Dell 3050 MFF that runs 24/7.
can multiple Viewpoints be used at the same time to avoid the HDMI needing to be distributed to multiple locations that are already serviced by Ethernet , some would have SAME layout , others might have perhaps different layout with the cameras relevant to that work area, I might want to use ideally 6 Viewports with 16cameras, some same layout and others with different layouts...
Hey, Yup you can have multiple viewports at the same time. This would count towards your total device count. Example the UNVR can have 50 1080 cameras if you put 2 view ports on you can have 48
In australia it is $300 USD. What a joke. After spending $450 on a UNVR it should be built in. This is standard stuff for what should be business grade CCTV. Unifi always fall short on their devices on a few basic core functions that every other manufacturer on the planet does. While they do far better on software their hardware and device support lacks.

Wow that's a big job! How will you store all those camera feeds? I don't think the NVR supports stacking yet
Hey ya it’s going to be a fun job that’s for sure. It does not support stacking yet so we will have two or three unvrs each with there own controller

better to buy a rasp pi
I was thinking this, why not just get a cheap Raspberry Pi and use that? Not sure how it'll handle multiple 4K streams though
I tried running the cameras on the raspberry pie but the CPU isn’t powerful enough. The video keeps refreshing every few seconds

I think for a home that is a great solution or apple tv, nvidia shield. I will be using these in businesses that require it online 24/7
It's overpriced for sure for what it does. Espeiclally with alternatives out there. I use CCTV Viewer on Apple TV.
$200 for just viewing the cameras? You’re right, too expensive for a home.

At that price point those big-ass screws better be made of pure platinum. WTF.
Not $200.
It seems something like this should be no more than $80 to be honest for what it does...nice review though
