As requested by a handful of you I have decided to make this video covering the Ali Abdaal style. I’ve come across it before and loved the use of folding paper animations. It’s a fun technique, even more so when you take the time to print your assets rather than making it digitally. The result is super clean and if you’re smart about it you can quickly build up a library of animated assets.
Anyways, I hope you learned something new from this video or at least just enjoyed following along!

The Paper animation can be made using a plugin with few clicks
Sometimes it’s not about efficiency or finding ways to “cheat”. Sometimes it’s about adding soul, life, character, uniqueness to the work

I have noticed this in all the video editing education channels I follow. The number of people interested in learning and applying these techniques are super niche and small.
I love channels like these they are absolute gold. I have learnt a lot from them.
Like you said it's only when you use those motion design and animation skills to discuss a wider topic do you tap into a larger viewership and engagement. Another channel like you suggested can achieve that.

Hello, I really like this style of collage, but I did not understand it well. How do you place those pieces of paper on the couple, how do you know in what position they should go so that when the frames run it has the unfolding effect?
Print out the picture of the couple, cut them out, then fold them one by one just like you see in the example with the pink circle. If you need multiple variations you can print out a couple and fold them in different directions. You're essentially folding backwards so think about it like you're reversing the animation!

@mapal i m also attending the course (Manuela) and I requested these effects during the last cohort. You mentioned to save the layers in psd. This even if they overlap one on each other? That part is not clear to me..
If you drag a psd file into Ae you get all the layers that you have in the photoshop file

I haven’t done any courses. Everything I know just comes from trial and error, conversations, UA-cam videos, and practice

Depends on the results. For best results and custom assets you need to do it yourself. There is a preset pack with a bunch of pre-made cutout animations etc

I should’ve elaborated on that. It’s a free plugin. It has a bunch of features but in this case I use the sequencing feature. It lets you sequence layers in a few different ways.

You don’t as long as you can keep the camera relatively similar. The iPhone camera has a built in leveller so I just used it to line it up

is there any alternative how to achieve that stopmotion folding paper animation? Cause it's a pain sticking work and take too much time I mean its better if we could do preset or script like. well Im just asking Im noob forgive me
You could recreate it in 3D but nothing will give you the same look as doing it manually. As I mentioned in the video you can create a big library of assets you can reuse. Sometimes the best way is the hard way!

You can always find old books, magazines, and coloured card stock paper to create some general shapes and assets! That'll probably be cheaper than a printer. Depends on use case tho

how are you sequencing them?
Most of the time I use motion tools, which is a free plugin. You can also right click on the selected layers > keyframe assistant > sequence layers (iirc)

As mentioned I used the Motion Tools plugin. You can also select all the layers, right click, keyframe assitant, and then sequence layers. However, Motion Tools just gives you more control! I talked about it in my plugins video
