I love that at any point in a Kora video, there is an excuse for Disney Dreamlight Valley to get randomly insulted LOL

My absolutely unhinged take on this phenomenon is that people are using these kinds of game as an escape because the world is seriously kinda screwed right now. Houses are unaffordable, prices of everything are blowing sky high, wages are stagnating, etc etc. What better game to escape in than one that lets you fulfill your fantasy of *gasp* owning a home and doing stuff with it?

Not to turn into a sociologist out of nowhere, but I feel like people are drawn to cozy games because a lot of us feel like the world around us is kinda burning down (prime example: 2020 and ACNH). And I think a lot of devs are building off that by providing players with a little whimsy, coziness, and calms in an otherwise hectic and decidedly un-cozy world. So, the more violent (physically or psychologically) the world beyond us is, the more cozy games can (and will) proliferate
That, or we just like cute animals and twee homesteading idk

True, though it has been a thing for decades before this, ie Sims, but it definitely rose into the common sphere with ACNH and 2020. Much like anime is now a commonality rather than a weird hobby.

I’m actually in the process of developing my own cozy game! Right now it’s pretty similar to Stardew Valley, but I want to go a little more outside the box in terms of mechanics. If anyone has ideas for features to add to my game, please let me know! I don’t want it to just end up as a carbon copy of all the other cozy games out there. 😅

Have an alien invasion that comes to steal your crops and you have to shoot them down. Then, somehow meet the alien world up in space and make alien friends. Make it a political allegory by showcasing aliens being pro-humans meaning in their eyes, they want to stop using humans just for food. Meanwhile other aliens who are pro-alien just want to use humans for thier crops because its super cheap to do so but still unethical

The best part of the surge of cozy games is: i got to know your channel, i almost don't play videogames anymore (sad) but your editing and voice are the coziest part of them

I already had a switch, but the pandemic and seeing all my friends playing ACNH made me buy it too, cause what else was I going to do ! I loved it though lm sure there were days I spent 10 hours listening to podcasts and just fishing…

I am loving your channel so far, but I'm kind of really sad that you haven't played or haven't covered my favorite "cozy" game. It's a beautiful game called Season: A Letter to the Future. Easiest way to play it is on PC. The end of the game is ultimately the same and your choices don't really matter, but that's the beauty of it. You play as a young woman taking photos of the world to pass down before the "changing of the season". The valley below your home town is full of mystery, and it's up to you on how much time you want to spend there. What you take photos of ultimately doesn't matter all that much. The game is about what YOU feel is important to pass down.
If this sounds interesting, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it in a video.

I’m sorry but I hate that most cozy games are either just lazy nothing burgers that capitalize on cutesy, pastel, beige aesthetics or “being on the winning side of capitalism” simulator. That include highly acclaimed games such as Animal Crossing, Unpacking, Melatonin, A Little To The Left and Stardew Valley along with other generic farming slops. A lot of people love Stardew Valley, but I find it sickening. The game bored the crap out of me and the most fun I had was when I tried doing this Southern accent on every single dialogue because of how uninteresting and predictable the characters are. There’s literally nothing to do but at the same time, you feel like you have do to everything. On top of that, you’re playing as this nepo baby whose ultimate goal is to kick Joja out of the town and cause a guy (or possibly even more people) to lose their jobs. Man, I wish I could just quit being exploited and live in a farm inherited by my grandpa, who got rich by possibly exploiting other people as well.
I’ve bought countless of cozy game because they just look SO ATTRACTIVE! But they all ended up abandoned after less than an hour of gameplay or just straight up untouched. The only cozy games I found to be quite enjoyable are Power Wash Simulator and Minecraft. I tried some cute little alligator game but again, the most fun I had was when I did stupid voice acting. When I try to relax, I don’t play games, I just watched gameplays on UA-cam or listen to soft music, Cozy games are like a tumor in gaming because people just can’t be bothered to put any effort into playing a game anymore, so it’s mostly just mindless interactions and enjoy the “vibes”. I wish they were more interesting and fun, instead of simply pandering to Cottagecore/Fairycore fans.

I think people are tired of the usual dark and edgy games because we've become so oversaturated with them it's nice to have a break from that and be reminded of the games of your childhood in some cases
