It's nice that you shared your DYI experience but the comments by professionals which pointed out flaws in the method were trying to be helpful (they wern't just being jerks). Glad it worked out for y'all.. Music is life , love it..
I was dumb-founded how to cinch the straps tight on my newly purchased used Roll-or-Kari; have never seen latch like that before. Now that I've seen your video, it's quite simple isn't! Thanks for the video; I love these things; have many uses in mind for them.
This dolly is for electronic organs which are very much shorter than a piano. While many places will rent this to move a piano, it very often actually makes the job more difficult, because it makes the piano 90 inches long with the addition of the handles and maneuvering is much more difficult. A piano is usually 60 to 62 inches long and can be navigated around turns more easily using a rectangular dolly centered under the pedals. To use the rectangular dolly, 2 or 3 people lift one end of the piano high enough so the remaining person can place the dolly under the pedals. The type of dolly depicted is not designed for a great deal of weight, does not readily strap to many pianos in manner that is secure and will not cause damage. I have moved many pianos and as I stated before the item shown, any time i have seen someone try to use it, has made the job more difficult or dangerous
These are good in a bunch of applications, those handles can be awesome but they can get in the way too. But if you need to move an upright piano more than a few inches away from the wall, a good four wheel dolly is the easiest way to go and you can buy one for less than $50. One person can move a smaller spinet with one (‘hope you don’t have stairs’) for the large old uprights, three to four people will do just fine (but they must be brave). If you own a piano it’s not a bad idea to have a four wheel dolly anyway, you’ll find plenty of other uses for it.
Piano technician here. Beginning of the movie she has the straps going around the legs, do not do this. You want the straps behind the legs. Cranking the straps over the legs of the piano can break and do damage to the legs of the piano. In the video you can see the legs bending as she torque's them down. Just an FYI.
Notice the last words in the video.... "Hope you don't have stairs..." In real life situations there are very few homes or buildings that do not have stairs, or say even a threshold plate at the floor to lift the piano over through a front door of a home...
Our local rental place had one. They rent garden tillers and many other items, so it was odd that they would also have a piano dolly. I suggest contacting a music store to see if they have any ideas.
The straps don't cause abrasive markings on the corners of the susceptible corners of the piano??? You should still cover the piano with some sort of protective cover (i.e. moving blanks/padding or a piano cover).
Why didn't we have this at work!! It would of saved my back a ton of times. In one move we would of had to lift the piano twice. Once to get it on a piano skid, than again to get it on a dolly.
Sorry everyone. But that is an Organ Dollie. Not a Piano Dollie. Organs are generally shorter and lighter than pianos and more easily handled with this device. I'm not saying it can't be successful on a Piano some of the time. But it will increase the amount of weight the movers have to lift on every lift because the FULCRUM for the lift is now not under the piano but off the end of it by 4 inches. But if you don't mind it doesn't matter.

You saved the day! Thanks for posting this!
Hi! Where were you able to rent the dolly? I'm trying to move a piano too but can't seem to get my hands on this special kind of dolly. Thanks!

very good suggestions to protect the piano. Thank you
Neat video. Thanks. But working with a lifted piano barefoot? REALLY??
It is more fun living life on the edge
Actually, this style of dolly was originally used for Hammond style electric organs.
Oh very cool. The rental store gave us a vintage tool hahaha.

+892guns I know, right? I wish I had this so many times before. It looked like a piece of junk when we rented it, but it worked like a charm.
HAVE... for fuck sake. WOULD HAVE.
where can you rent the dolly?
any Uhaul store or local equipment rental agency will have this item
Never trust a person with more than five wristbands!
If you have stairs, hire some strong individuals... or under the guidance of a professional, build a ramp and pulley system.
I agree, we need professionals for any steps. We would not want injury or damage.
Strap behind the thin legs... they break easily.
I am grandson of the people who sold the house to youI am really sad that we don't have that house anymore =Dbut its ok
+the black diamond you will really love the videos we post as we get moved in and our dog plays in the yard

I rented a piano dolly, so not sure why they gave me this. It worked well.

How to spell Piano "Dolly".....
Oh, yes, good catch. I found that plural is spelled dollies, but when I looked it up again then it is spelled as dolly. THanks man.
