I realise this is an old video but thanks so much for making it and keeping it on UA-cam! I need to do a bunch of switches on my 2500 and felt very nervous about it until I watched this. I feel a lot more confident now. I think the worst part looks like getting the board in and out!

Good video, these machines are becoming true classics! Worth keeping alive.

Hi, and thanks for a very good video. I actually managed to repair a dead MPC2000 by watching this. The only thing that doesn´t work now is the SCSI port. I get the message "SCSI Not ready!!" A Google search suggests that the SCSI fuse is blown, and must be replaced. But where is the SCSI fuse?

The scsi fuse is actually inside the mpc I had to change mine and solder it

How's the screen working these days? Had any issues with it? Would you recommend the MPC Stuff screen?

It works fine. Unfortunately it's an expensive replacement but in the case of the MPC there are no stock replacements because it was basically a custom part for Akai.

The burn in on the original screen is caused by the glue underneath the protective film. You can remove all the glue and the burn in will dissappear

@@lyricalruffer6779 So if you did that, would you really need to replace the screen?

Did they ever update the screens? If you got one and use the 8 out it was dodgy.

Hi and thanks for your video! I Learned a lot so far. I purchased an Akai MPC 2000 (2000 plus it's actually called) for $200Ca. through an on-line auction; they can go for a lot more, so it seemed like a good deal, working or not. But of coarse like many auction electronics, it had a few issues when I got it home. (and Because of this, I have taught myself the basics in electronics also...) So I was hoping if you have any suggestions, for 1. The fact that I have to click the power button on and off repeatedly for it to finally work...and Hopefully it is very simple, such as along the lines of using some sort of electronic oxidizing spray perhaps? (I could only be so lucky! lol) or maybe just blowing out the dust and debris will hopefully fix it. But if it is more than this, then I will deal with it. Also, it is missing the rectangle slide button along with the metal bar attached. Any easy rigging suggestions for this would also be appreciated. I have been in touch with mpc.com for parts if need be. Thanks again for reading this, and for your expertise! Sincerely, Dave.👍😉🇨🇦

Yes try cleaning the switch out and see if that has an effect. Also look for any broken solder joints on the switch PCB.

The 2000 plus is sweet, it's a fully maxed out MPC 2000. The effects boards are over 1/4 of the price od a maxed out unit and so are the 8 outs. You paid a lot but, sweet unit. Give It a clean and use some basic electrical skills and I'm sure you'll get it running, owning old samplers is like owning guitar pedals. A bit of maintenance and electrical know how goes a long way and makes them last forever.

Can you share what's tool you used to suck the solder from the tact switches?

Also for anyone who does not know this trick, I just found out from another video that if you use superglue mixed in with a bit of baking soda, it makes a Seriously extra strong bond.. especially with plastics!

Youre a good man for making this video. So many videos for the 2kXL and not NEARLY enough for the classic like you did here.
I now feel confident enough to replace some of the keys and rotary encoder.
Seriously, thank you so much for showing how to take the PCB board out and flip it over for soldering. My brother in law and I were quite daunted about how to go about that
