    As kids, we all learn to kick the footy around but these guys are the best of the best. They are confident enough to take the kick under pressure and at speed, which is why they play at the highest level. They are also professionals and have hours of practice to do this but there are some that are just fantastic to watch, no matter if you barrack for their team or not. Eddie Betts, Buddy Franklin, Cyril Rioli are some of the few that just bring joy to all footy fans. Pleased you’re enjoying our wonderful game.

      Lol yep, my only trophy earned as a kid:
      Best in finals for under 12s, for a town called Zeehan in Tassie… mostly on the back of kicking a single goal in the quarter final from the 50m line…
      Which is a big kick even for adults, but I was 12…
      It landed in the goal square, underneath the pack of players that jumped up to grab it.
      And went through without being touched 😊

    Now you know why half the NFL kickers are Aussies. We have revolutionised your kicking with the accurate drop punt , the screw kick and the boomerang.

    • @adamparker9765
      @adamparker9765 Рік тому

      @@captcaveman82 A screw kick is where the ball is held the opposite to a spiral punt and it is kicked towards the point of the ball so it spins right to left if kicked by a right footer. A boomerang is pretty much the same.

    Americans reacting to AFL is my favourite youtube genre tbh. This game is why Australians are starting to take your punting positions lol. It's also why Australians just don't understand the hype some guys get for PATs in NFL lol. If you want a punter that's going to force your opponent into awful positions.. you want an AFL player

    6:37 the bandage was most likely a case of the blood rule - if someone starts bleeding, they have to go off to get patched up before they can come back

    The Goals..the Spectacular Marks...the Big Hits......players averaging running over 10miles every game...the skills, bravery, athleticism and endurance is matched by NO OTHER sport in the world. Imaging if AFL was the "World Game"

      @rhyssanders9122 2 роки тому +1

      Man I wish it was the world game, but I think it would become corrupt (more than it allegedly is) and with heaps of other countries having input and stuff I think itll be softened and be a case of too many cooks in the kitchen

    To clarify, the player can run out of bounds, but if the ball stays in play, it's game on. What's incredible about the "soccer" type goals is that the ball is oval. Every footy player can bend the ball accurately, and some of the goal-kicked bananas are unbelievable. Loved the comment about the bandage being precautionary. LOL. That guy probably had a broken jaw. Okay, that's exaggerating, but not untrue. Broken ribs, fractured jaws and broken fingers are a normal occurrence, and not worthy of thought. These hard-ass freaks shrug injury off, desperate to get back onto field to help their teammates. Brent Harvey, (23:48) was a pocket rocket and he has the all-time AFL/VFL record of 432 games played. Of course, you realize every player can kick either foot, but most have a preferred option. Enjoying you work. Cheers from Aus.

    They practise these kicks for goal, bouncing kicks, banana kicks to bend the ball, tight angle kicks, etc. They know how to manipulate the ball to get it through the goals from any angle.

  • @brosert
    @brosert 2 роки тому +2

    If you watch carefully, because the ball is egg shaped how you hold it (and how you connect with the foot) will affect whether the ball goes straight or curls left or right. Generally the ones from impossible angles use some sort of turning kick (don't want to start an argument because exactly which is which varies state to state, but I grew up with a 'banana ' being a kick that curls across your body (e.g. a right footer curling left), a 'checkside' curls away from you (e.g. right footer curling right), and a 'snap' is either of these (more often a banana) but done under a bit of pressure (sort of a 'hail Mary')). It's also worth mentioning the 'torpedo' (or 'screwie') - generally used to get distance this ball rotates around narrower part of the ball (instead of tumbling end on end like a drop punt would) - a good torpedo will look sort of like an NFL throw....(EDIT: the way he held the ball at 9:30 to kick it from almost 60m looked like he was doing a torp).

    They start playing at 6 year old, even us old blokes in our 50's were playing at about 8yo but spent half our lives in the street or parks playing kick to kick and practicing the skills. And these guys are the best of the best if they get to AFL so their ball handling skills are elite. In the US you dont seem to have regional comps to play at as we do after college. You either get to the NFL or give it away but we have suburban and country comps to play at if we aren't good enough for the AFL so still have 10's of 1000's of players still playing in their 20's to 30's all over Australia. I think that helps build a strong pool of talent as there is always someone willing to take your spot somewhere if you dont perform.

    This is a good video to react to, it shows game play and is more typical of the game. High marks are beautiful but also not so frequent, this one shows the speed, skills, strength, and agility of the sport. Forwards do this despite having opposing defenders assigned specifically to them to counter their abilities.

    About the boundary. The player can be out of bounds but as long as he holds the ball in play it's ok. When in question, the boundary umpire will decide.

    It's way better than any other footy code around, the angles etc they practice these at training so for them they aren't really surprising coz they know they can put them through..
    Omg yeah Eddie betts is a goal kicking GOAT!!!! (he's now retired & is the assistant coach for geelong)
    And yes mason cox plays for Collingwood (my team)..

    Another great reaction champ!
    A couple of things. Boundary and goal lines - the ball is not out of play or a goal unless the WHOLE ball is over the line. Not like the NFL where you just have to break the plain.
    You're 100% right about the athleticism, size and strength of these blokes. They're the fittest ball sport players on earth. They have to run on avg 10 miles a game. They're just sleek, well built running machines. And they're hard. They have to train up to 4 months in the preseason to get their bodies right for the rigours of AFL.
    Keep enjoying our great game pal!

    Like a few people are probably telling you, Eddie Betts and Lance Franklin would be great goal highlights to react to. If you search Eddie, try to get a clip that's not posted by a football club or club supporters' page. They'll only cover half his career, as he played for 2 clubs. For Franklin, the AFL made a clip of 23 of his best for his 300th game (because he wears number 23). If you search Lance Franklin 23, it should be obvious which clip it is. It's still probably the best one around.

    Sideline rules. Player can run out whileholding the ball in.

  • @Lnch4ALion

    You are fun to watch, watching our football. Watch a video on Eddie Betts, he is wonderful no matter who he was playing for. Eddie was a smaller player so more for getting the ball away from the centre. Eddie could do it all, fly high and score. Also watch Buddy Franklin scoring his 1,000th goal and watch what happens. Lance Franklin is Buddy Franklin.
    Yes, our American Pie plays for Collingwood Magpies or just the Pies. He was wearing prescription goggles last game I saw him. He looks a bit odd but he is way too tall to tell him.
