  • Full golf lesson - PGA Professional - teaching pro. Longer clubs, better throw - speed & accuracy.
    In this video I work with one of my fellow PGA Professionals on his swing. For many years he has struggled with back issues. As he’s been working through technique changes trying to find more distance and remain relevant in local PGA tournaments he has found it difficult to coordinate all the different moves he’s been learning. In just a few short weeks he has improved his knowledge of the swing and throwing the club correctly. It’s exciting to see how much less stress his body is under and how much more simple and efficient his swing as.
    He is also excited about using his newfound knowledge to work with his existing students. It’s fun to be able to help people improve their games even if it’s vicariously through one of my students who’s also a teacher. The best place to get golf lessons in Westchester County New York is at GlenArbor Golf Club in Bedford Hills. Craig Hocknull is an award winning teacher with PGA tour playing experience and he can help you to improve your putting, chipping, bunker play, accuracy and driving distance. GlenArbor is a highly regarded private country club that allows non-members to take golf lessons with Craig Hocknull. There are few things more enjoyable in golf than working with a world class golf instructor. Thank you for taking the time with me as golf has been a struggle with the current state of my hip and back the last four years. I am determined to get this thing back on the right track and I really appreciate the help. As mentioned, I have taken lessons from 4 top 50 instructors in the world and none of them really compare to the experience on your lesson tee.

      Thank you Todd for the kind words. I think you’re doing great! And the more you keep freeing up the swing the more efficient you will get. You have the speed through the ball you just Gotta keep letting it go!

    Bobby jones was one of the greatest ball strikers in history, i now understand better some things he did and didn't write about probably because he started at age six. He did the rib crunch,the throw and he let his left heel pad come off the handle sometim e to get a little more snap. He always said you can describe the golf swing a million ways and the next explanation someone will get it. I think you explain very well, i played very good golf that resulted in surgeries, I'm now coming back and your teaching is just what i needed.

      @@CraigHocknullGolfyou may have said it on your channel but I start the throw into the curve and the driver you definitely have to throw sooner than irons. Chipping and pitching is much easier too. A question I have is do you want the lead hand softer than the trail hand or equal?

      @@CraigHocknullGolf Hi Craig, quite evidently you think deeply and drill down into the nitty gritty details. Without wanting to put words into your mouth it seems to me that your concept is in harmony with Ernest Jones 'Swing the Clubhead' and Henry Cotton's hands are the Key factor i.e. swing the clubhead and the body follows....

    • @CraigHocknullGolf
      @CraigHocknullGolf  4 місяці тому

      @willbrooks3490 I have found that if the hands and forearms know how to move the club back an through correctly they will teach the arms and shoulders how to move. When the arms and shoulders know how to move correctly you are well on your way. The tricky part is getting the core, hips and legs to now move correctly without messing up the good work that’s already been done. I will research those books or methods you mentioned. Thank you!

    Great video lesson. The load and unload of the finger really was a game changer for me. Question- in the video you said to set it at the top and throw it at the bottom (at 4:27) - is that just a "feel" not real since you say to load at the top and unload near the top? I'm guessing maybe body rotation makes the release feel like it's at the bottom? Thanks love your videos.

    • @CraigHocknullGolf
      @CraigHocknullGolf  2 роки тому

      I’m glad this is helping. Thanks for the feedback. Yes I guess my point was to have fully released the energy at the bottom. So you have fully loaded at the top and you are in the process of unloading the entire time from the top until you fully release the energy at the bottom. I guess that was the point I was trying to make. Not so much where you start the unloading but where the unloading is completed. Which is basically at or just before the golf ball.

    This was the clearest explanation to date of the position and action of the right hand at the top. I'm not as clear on the "throwing under" part around impact. Same for the scoop or slap part. Do you have a video that focuses on that?

    • @CraigHocknullGolf
      @CraigHocknullGolf  2 роки тому +1

      If you went bowling your arm would swing from high to low and then back up again. Your palm would be pointed to the ground at the top of the backswing, the target at release and the sky after release of the ball. Unless you were trying to create spin. That’s the point, why spin when you can go straight.

    Craig, assuming we are set up with a strong grip are you concerned with whether the lead wrist is cupped or bowed . thanks

    • @CraigHocknullGolf
      @CraigHocknullGolf  2 роки тому

      Not really. I think extremes of either can damage your wrist. So I would say as close to anatomical neutral the better.

    I'm re-watching this video because it's so good. I'm still trying to understand the movements in the throw. Is the throw from the top done with wrist flexion or with radial deviation or both? It seems that in order to throw the club back behind you it would have to start with radial deviation but it seems like it seems like the scoop is done with flexion. Thanks for any clarification on this! I'm loving what it's doing for my ball striking but I'm not sure I'm doing it correctly.

      So the beginning of the downswing from the very very top to about rib height is more of a hammer down motion or fall if you choose. The remaining 3/4 of the swing from rib high past waist height and threw the ball is probably a little bit more of the slap scoop motion with the trail hand. You don’t want to begin scooping above waste height. The throw through the curve of the downswing is key with the exit more of a scoop to the finish rather than a scoop prior to impact. Hope that helps!

      @@CraigHocknullGolf Very much so. It's a subtle combination, especially when you add the hip and shoulder turns and tilts, but it seemed to work right from the outset for me. Thanks for responding!

    Hey Craig, watching this video is enlightening (once again)...I've got a quick question, I play golf right handed, but I'm naturally left handed, pitched left hand baseball, and on top of that, I eat/write right handed, so quasi ambidextrous, and you mentioned that baseball players can get lots of speed because they know how to throw (we'll assume right handed), but now in my case, how can I take advantage of that when I'm a left handed thrower, but play golf right handed? As I mentioned in another comment to you, I'm having success getting more speed from this technique, really good speed, but can I take advantage of my left hand at all, or am I just out of luck and need to keep training/working with the right hand? And I'm not going to switch to left handed golf now...Ha! Thanks, Bill

      If you were to throw a frisbee as far as you can, would you throw it left handed and backhanded? That’s how you would create more speed in your right handed golf swing. Accelerating your left arm backwards is a great way to do it.

    • @williamgeorgen529
      @williamgeorgen529 Рік тому

      @@CraigHocknullGolf Wow, great question, I actually I think I would feel more comfortable throwing the frisbee for distance right handed because I think I have more control that way…So where does that leave me now? I think this is one of the reasons I have difficulty playing golf because I don’t know whether I’m right, handed or left-handed…
