  • In this video I work with a student who is way over thinking the backswing. We discussed accelerating the club through impact and how that’s to be done. We have a much better backswing and follow through now because we worked on what’s important first.
    Don’t assume that achieving position A in the backswing will automatically create a great Position B (impact) and position C the follow through. The smartest golfer I ever knew once told me that “You have to give up control to gain control.” Exactly what you’re trying to get across to your student in this lesson. Really outstanding stuff. Thanks.

      Yes that’s exactly right. When you set mass in motion and let it show you the pathway you don’t have to control it, you just have to sim it and apply the appropriate energy for the shot at hand.

    Always learning and one of the best 30 minutes I have ever invested. Ill be in touch for the next lesson now that the longer clubs have been put into use.

    Craig, love your videos, would love to see you keep adding to the channel. Question: I've been experimenting with your THROW and RELEASE over the last month, and I find myself hitting a couple of SHANKS during a course of 9-holes, something I haven't done in a while? Something that sends shock waves up my body....Is this method susceptible to a shank, that is, coming more from an inside-to-out swing path?

    • @CraigHocknullGolf
      @CraigHocknullGolf  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for your comment. I wouldn’t teach anything that’s susceptible to shanks or any other miss hit. Maybe you are throwing better and creating more force and need to stand further away? Or the direction of your throw is out to the ball rather than down?

    I just saw your comments at the very end about centrifugal force pulling the hands further out as a result of the throw...but how do you accommodate this in the setup? Extend the arms out to the ball (tension?)? Place the ball behind the toe of the face as you mentioned? Or ??

    • @CraigHocknullGolf
      @CraigHocknullGolf  Рік тому

      Yes your practice swings will reveal where the ball should be placed. Make a few practice swings that are full effort and mark up the turf or mat a little. Then while leaving your feet in position drag a ball into the space that was marked or had a divot. Address the ball in its new place and see how different it feels. Hope that helps!

      @@CraigHocknullGolf Yes, and that is so simple! I always think about practice swings while playing to determine the proper distance and direction, then step up to the ball an appropriate amount and swing away, but I NEVER do it...And I do believe you might be correct about throwing better and possibly creating more pull force. I know that my Swing Caddie indicates a +10mph increase in swing speed over my old swing style....last, you are correct, since this is all new to me, I need to be more aware of the "throw direction" as well. I'm playing today, so good chance to test these ideas! Thanks again, you've really got a really good process going here!, I don't know why you don't have >100K subscribers already! Bill

    Great video. Took this to the range and everything was outstanding with nice little draws until I got to driver. The driver for some odd reason felt stuck and I was topping and pushing a lot of balls. Is that a common trait when transitioning from this type of swing?

    • @CraigHocknullGolf
      @CraigHocknullGolf  Рік тому +1

      Your swing planes are not the same for irons and woods so you will need to alter the swing plane to connect more consistently with the ball.

    Is this a slap hinge release?

    • @CraigHocknullGolf
      @CraigHocknullGolf  Рік тому

      Yes but as you can see he wasn’t releasing at all so we started with the swish to release tension and to stop guiding.

      Do you ever use an actual grass whip with your students as well or does the club work well enough?

      The club does just fine and keeps it real.

      That's really cool!
      So as far as teaching a slap hinge is the wrist set between P2 and P3 like normal? Just at a different angle(as opposed to radial wrist set)?

    • @CraigHocknullGolf
      @CraigHocknullGolf  Рік тому

      The backswing doesn’t hit the ball so it doesn’t really matter how or where you set the wrists going back as long as you know how to release them. Too many people get caught up in what the backswing does and they never get past it. If you focus on releasing the energy with a square face you will develop your own natural backswing style to complement your downswing transition. Hope that helps!
