I wanna own a Goodwill!! FREE INVENTORY, massive 501(c)3 Tax-Breaks, pay your employees minimum wage with little to no benefits, offer no returns, cherry-pick the best items to sell on-line, etc., etc. What a fantastic business model. CEO makes over $2 Million per year. Yeah....what a load OF CRAP! I haven't stepped-foot in one for monrhs!
Kevin , the Goodwill in my town has been closed for over a year , I believe it was because their prices were way too high . On a positive note there have been three new places that opened up that are run by church groups which are just as large as Goodwill but their prices are 1/3 of what Goodwill was . It is a win , win for all of us . Twice I found an item that I thought was overpriced and brought it to the managers attention and his reply was what do you think a fair price would be . I didn't lowball him but told him what I thought a fair price would be and he sold it to me for that price .
Totally off topic…but I’m always amused when people talk about “THE” thrift store in their town.
Or…when they talk about the hours they have to drive to get to a few thrift stores.
I can drive 10 minutes…and pass 25 thrift stores. There’s literally 12 Goodwills within a 5 mile radius of my house.
I think that is the “opportunity” you hear about when people talk about California (or other major cities).
I’m not saying one is better…or worse.
I’m just thinking out loud.
Just seems like a perfect instantiation.
@@sendthis9480 I believe it has to do with where you were raised and what you are used to . I've never lived in a big city so I can't compare it to anything . I enjoy starting my day with a cup of coffee sitting on my screened in back porch watching the sun come up with nature . it's usually just a few rabbits or squirls but there is a flock of turkeys that come by every few days and an occasional deer will pass by . For someone like me this is very relaxing . I do have two Walmarts within a fifteen minute drive and most of the other big box stores . I'm only stating that there is a reason why I don't live close to 12 Goodwills .
@Eagle Rider same I love country life.
I don't know where you live but in our town the Goodwill also closed right after the eviction .moritorium put on us by the democrat Illinois government state Governor's spritzer
Let's also talk about how some thrift store sticker things! The actual sticker glue has ruined so many record covers, peeled paint off of things, and covered imperfections. Ugh. I hate those stickers!
Yes, yes and yes!!!!!
Yes! And here they ALWAYS put the sticker over the label/makers mark on ceramics, so if you want to see if it's made in Japan or English Staffordshire, you have to peel the sticker back. On most ceramics the stickers are in pieces because people have done exactly that.
Yes, Stuart Weitzman new shoes and ugg boots ( sticker on the top part). The solution is so simple to attach a tag, or keep in the case or in the back for more expensive items.
@@beeveedee9355 Same. Unfortunately most ceramics makers marks are on the underside, centered... When tags are placed they're placed on the underside, usually centered. It's annoying and yep the questionable pieces always have shredded tags because 3 people did the same thing.
They do little to no damage if they are fresh and you remove them immediately. I always pay attention to the stickers, like you said they could be covering up damage or will damage the product if removed. If they can't be removed or are directly on product like comics or some paperback books, I pass. The worst situation I've had is it removing the gloss coating on some softcover books.
There's always some source of merchandise somewhere, the number of baby boomers with houses jam-packed with old stuff is astounding. With a huge cascade of old merchandise, it will pop up everywhere.
My goodwill has a rack of “authenticated” high end purses lol. Like to know how the authentication process is done. Pointed out a fake to the manager😂
My local goodwill is absolutely ridiculous these days. When they began pricing shoes individually, they priced ALL of them up. Even Walmart shoes are being priced at $10 or more. they did start the 75% off days recently and I only go in on those days now. With the warm weather starting early here, Im looking forward to yardsale season for sure.
Their entire business model is “good for the community” so they receive FREE items to sell. The tide has shifted and people realize Goodwill has started to price up items as they attempt to operate as a “reseller” or middle man.
Once the public realizes they are up charging for a lot of good or trying to get eBay prices, they will collapse, nationally.
I go to Goodwill once in awhile. Not many near me here in Jersey. But when I go to Lancaster County Pa. I hit a cpl there and they are still great! They already went the online route years ago, when they realized resellers were shopping there for treasures. Now, they want more, more, more and sadly it's the corporate greed and not so much the 'charity' it's supposed to be.
I love going to little local church thrift shops and sales and I find great deals. But my main area of sourcing is estate sales. I love, love, love them. lol Went to only 2 yesterday, but found some great things. Goodwill is only going to hurt themselves more and more if they keep this up.
its getting better on finding packaged toys. it was super slow this winter. i was buying out trade show booths.
Goodwill Shoe Pricing: always envious when Hairy T shoes off the Category Pricing Lists for items (like Shoes as they source in their Goodwills, where there are set prices for Shoes, Shirts etc. Here in the Pacific Northwest in our area, everything is separately and uniquely priced, to the extent that 2 identical New/Old stock items, in the same condition, will have 2 different prices if they were priced by 2 different employees. Mens shoes at our Goodwills are usually over $20 a pair. Not many good values remain. Ours treat the entire store as a “Special Buy Area”.
Goodwill Variables: 2 other variables in our Goodwills of note. We pay the State Sales Tax rate when buying at Goodwill and our Goodwills will not Honor/Accept our Business Reseller Certificates (Tax deferral until the time of sale), the way other stores do, so we end up paying the sales tax when we purchase the used goods and again later when we file our Business Taxes (on the sale price of the items). Double dinged, as Resellers. How is it there?
We have mostly stopped shopping at Goodwill and Salvation Army Thrift Stores - when I can go to Nordstrom's Rack online and purchase brand new top brands for LESS than Goodwill and Salvation Army USED, I could quickly discern it is a waste of our time in most cases to visit those stores.
Our local Goodwill is dead. Very high priced. The items are spaced far apart on the shelves because there isn’t any inventory. Yesterday there were only 10 people in the store
Our goodwills have gotten out of hand with their prices on stuff that is nothing but junk. I hardly go there anymore I used to go at least once a week. We still have a wonderful thrift store that is only open on Sat mornings and I go every Saturday they don't price anything you just put your items in bags and go up to the checkout and they give you a price for all of your choices and its is always a great deal this is the way all thrift stores should be as all the items they sell are donated. Sad that goodwill has become a boutique. Looking so forward to yard selling season which is around the corner.
I had to tell you, I'm one of the viewers who is old enough to recognize that you were humming the theme from Bonanza! 😃Liked and shared, thanks for sharing!!
😂😂
The closest one to me is in Rhinelander WI. They've changed over the years. The worst is BOOKS. they charge so much for books- I just walk down the aisle and LAUGH. There is never ANY vintage books there, so they're definitely going through them and shipping out the good stuff. So they keep the junk then individually mark them (no "hardcovers x amount softcovers x"- they randomly assign prices ranging from 1.99 to 9.99) I have found good things there. I found a Schleich playset I got $100 for and I bought it for $7.99. I've found some great plushes. You have to dig. They have a table where they throw the little toys like McDs toys and pieces. They are TERRIBLE about keeping like items together. I remember when my kids were little donating to them like 2 piece pajama sets and finding them hanging completely separately and marked crazy -Like a pair I'd get on clearance at Walmart for $3 they had marked $4.99 for the PJ pants and $2.99 for the shirt! So I don't give them anything anymore. But I can go in there and find stuff- It's just hit or miss. Best sections- Fabric, wood items/wall hangings (older stuff), puzzles/games, plushes, toys though that can be a mess to go through if you go at the wrong time. Also, ours has the sticker of the week at 50% off so I scour the store for deals and they have a .99 cents clearance section. I do find things to sell in those sections. The old school ebay dudes that I can peg or mostly older men- 55+- they do NOT use a cart, they stroll slowly with their hands in their pockets. They beeline it to the electronics corner. I look for other stuff people will overlook.
Kevin I got my Commonwealth tote bag and stickers. I can't wait for yard sales to start here in Ohio so I can take my bag and fill it with goodies
I am someone who went to Goodwill around 2018 looking for video games. They would be $2 each until April 2022 when all of a sudden they spiked the price to $5.99 each. That’s triple or 300% increase overnight. Now I rarely go in there. It is mostly junk no matter what stuff you are looking for. No deals local anymore. They have become a greedy store that sells anything of value online.
The one goodwill in my area is getting crazier by the day with their prices. Can't count the number of times that I've heard customers complaining at the check out over the prices. The lowest price point they have is 1.99 .Its all new american citizens everytime i go in there
Our local GW feels cleaned out. Went in after work this week and same-no people, except myself and one other lady.
We're in Kansas City, MO. We just started going to Goodwill, and reselling on eBay. I found 6 Longaberger woven traditions dinner plates at our Goodwill, and they only charged me $0.69 each. They sold for nearly $100.00 overnight. I thought I had peaked. I took my daughter to the bins for the first time yesterday, and uncovered a perfect J.R. Hamil Kansas City Plaza Christmas painting matted and framed! I almost stopped breathing! I would sell it, but my father and I collect his (Hamil's) works. We would never have known where to begin this journey without you, Kayla (The Homeschooling Picker), and Paul ( The Philly Phlipper). Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experiences!
Aloha Kevin! Aiea is a city in Hawaii near Pearl Harbor. It is the only city in the U.S. with no consonants, only vowels. It’s pronounced, “aye-a-uh”. That ABC Stores mug is from a convenience store that is mainly in Waikiki (they do have several stores in Las Vegas and Guam) and is very popular with the tourists. I actually used to work for that company as a pastry chef (the company tried to dabble in the restaurant business). I started reselling last May and have noticed that Goodwill has really picked through their donations more as well as increased prices. Just in the short time that I’ve been doing this, I noticed how greedy GW is getting. I mean, you can still find good items that fall through the cracks, but for the most part, there’s a lot less good finds -they all went to GW Finds…lol.
I'm not a GW shopper. I go in 1 maybe 4x a year. Here we have Savers! All the time I find items to flip. I don't even shop the adult clothes except for bras. I generally buy nwt ones and then maybe a few
nice larger size ones or a vintage style. There are other thrifters buying the clothes up and I dont mess with those except for mostly baby or toddler new or vintage. I've made some great $ on new sheets especially Ralph Lauren new in package. Like easily over $100 -125 on 1 sheet. I'll sell used bedding too from Savers and make some nice sales. Like anything else have to know your niche.
I sell 9k a month part time from primarily 2 goodwills. Go to one at lunch and one on the way home. Same 2 5 days a week
For the gw in my town I refuse go I drive hour away and spend my days in lil thrift store… can’t wait spring snow keeps showing up here
I am actually a ware’s attendant at my local Goodwill. Our store did away with Senior Day, color of the week and .99 Sunday. I wish they would bring them back. I’m sure they lost customers.
I just was at a local Goodwill and their sign posted at donation says they do not take any electronics, mowers, guns, and a few other items I don't remember. This may be why they are losing customers. Even took the reward points away. Independent thrifts are the ones to shop. Flippin Granny.
I'm from the UK. What are Goodwill shops? Do they raise funds for a selection of charities? The prices at our version, charity shops, are steadily going up. I also said when I was younger, I'd volunteer at a charity shop when I retired. I won't now volunteer as I found out that the CEO's of our big charities average $200,000 salary p.a., they also have large marketing costs. Even with zero costs of goods, you have to sell a lot of bits and pieces to cover that. I've spent my working life making other people rich, I'm not doing it now I've retired! Rant over! really enjoying your videos Kevin.
We have a couple of thrift stores and No goodwill within 100 miles. We source mostly at church yard sales
Here in California my overpriced Goodwill's roof caved in. Luckily no one was hurt, but was it a sign????
Oh my word! Definitely a sign! 😮
Must've been that recent huge snow storm?...
I’m not a reseller, but I go to Goodwill occasionally to see what I can thrift for my home. I have noticed the lack of shoppers here. What baffles me is that the store receives so many donated items but does not sell as fast as they receive. They could certainly achieve this by pricing items very cheaply and moving much more inventory quickly. After all, their goal is to train workers. They also can give low income customers the opportunity to shop for items they need, and keep as much stuff out of the landfills as possible. The fact that resellers also could benefit from the lower prices is ok with me. Their money is green, too.
Goodwill has become a .99 cent store with used items. Goodwill is horrible and has been for a long time. Resellers like Kevin get paid by UA-cam so they want us to subscribe and comment. This is the kajillionth video he's done on Goodwill being awful. Jeez.
The concept is attrition. Like when a radio station loses listeners the station plays more ads. More ads - more listeners leave... more ads, etc.
GW raises prices, starts losing customers. Raise again to make up the volume loss, and lose more customers, etc, etc.
I did go to a GW today. Got 21 new decks of a very limited playing cards for $1.11 each. Sell on average for $30. And always find DVDs for $1-2 and comps for what I buy have to be over $20 each.
GW needs better management at the higher levels. They need to pay their employees working the sales floor better. The Local GWs I go to 3-4 times a week have some of the nicest and hard working employees. They barely make minimal wage when nasty/lazy workers at McDonald’s down the street are making $15 an hour. I think GW needs to restructure their pricing policies and reward employees. I usually spend $15k per year at GW and have noticed many flaws that higher management should be fixing. They receive the item free and profit everything after the sorting, distribution, store/warehouse costs and then employees. The cost cutting should never be focused on employee salaries. I wonder if they created a “member fee” like Costco to get coupons, discounts and Sunday .99 prices. If you don’t want to join, you pay full price on everything but the color of the week. Costco survives off member fees. It works for them so GW could jump on board. $49 a year. I know that most resellers would pay that.
Goodwill is hit or miss in most instances even where they seem to be pricing things too high. The key is visiting regularly and having realistic expectations that you may walk out empty handed 60-70 percent of the time. Those other times are quite rewarding and it all comes down to how much effort you put into it. If you visit a particular goodwill, salvation army, savers, or other thrift stores multiple times a week you will score.
My "loop" consists of 4-8 stores, sometimes twice a week. Bound to find something. 3 stores of having little to nothing and you find enough to fill your cart at the 4th store. Most locations will restock certain sections during certain days and times so be mindful of that as well. Being the first in the store is seldom beneficial, give the employees time to settle in to work mode and put out new merchandise
Here in south Florida goodwill and even private thrift stores are pricey
All 4 of our goodwill stores have a $1 day. All items that have been there 4 weeks or more. Color coded are only $1. I've gotten several electronics and leather jackets for resell for only $1
Kevin , @14:40 I wonder how many people will catch that you are humming the theme song to the old T V show Bonanza , lol .
I’ve sold used Allen Edmonds shoes with the trees for $60 to $180 a pair in the past. Great find!!
I haven't been to Goodwill in months. It's too crazy on the bin side for me. It used to be great now they have to hold the shoppers back when they bring the new junk bins out until they say go. It's insane how the people act in there. I think they have a cop on the premises at all times because of theft and fights. My rant is really about my local CHKD thrift store they rarely ever have anything worth a toot and the little bit of trash they do have out is way way overpriced. I really think they are back dooring all the good stuff there is no way they never get any good donations. I'm also tired of being asked every single time to round up my purchase for donation. I love our local DAV, very good prices, nicely stocked shelves all day long, and I find good stuff almost every day. I'm in the Hampton /Newport News area of Virgina.
There's nothing in Goodwill's because they either auction the good stuff off or the employees take most of the leftover good stuff. Things pop though still, but it's becoming a rare occasion.
Crazy to think only Hogan is alive on that pillow case. I want to say that was on CBS when I was a kid? Sat morning cartoons! I have the series on my Plex server lol. Hope to run into you at Peaches to the Beaches!
Are goodwill here in the keystone area has 50% starting every Wednesday for the color of the week. Then on Tuesday of the next week it’s 2.00 Tuesday and then the next day Wednesday is when they change the color and so on. Everyday is a sale. Some of the reasons I believe the goodwill is upping their prices because they think if resellers can get a higher price we can too and the money goes back into goodwills mission.
My town stopped the $2.00 last Tuesday of the month deal. I walked out without anything yesterday. Not going back.
I have 5 different Goodwills I go to. They are each very different. One that use to be my favorite I rarely go to anymore (Farmville) since they switched to being managed by the Lynchburg district. They have lots of new items like gummy bears and dollar store items. They still do color of week but it only counts for clothes. Very few hard goods its mostly clothes now, My 2 favorite stores do 50 % off the color of the week and that can be anything. I can also get the frequent shopper stamps which I love. I think a full card gives you 10% off. I think it makes a big difference where the store is located. The better ones are both located by lake communities, that is also a great area to go to yard sales.
Sounds like my Goodwill! They have definitely reduced the hard goods. They discontinued the discount card and stopped selling books. I don't know why they want to focus on clothes, but they are. Prices are to high for resale though as most are bread and butter at best. They still have DVD but are bundling them and using the demon tape to bundle them together, thus ruining the cases.
The Goodwills near me in Florida were great before the pandemic. They closed for a couple of months then doubled prices when they reopened.
Since my main category was sourced elsewhere and never closed down, I just stopped the Goodwill thing altogether.
My wife stopped in a couple of days ago and said prices were mostly back to where they were pre pandemic.
The "pandemic" was the best thing that could have happened to my ebay business.
I wanted to make sure you saw my previous comment since I know you sometimes don't get to read all the comments. I know this has nothing to do with your video today but I am doing my shipping right now and I have to say THANK YOU. . THANK YOU... THANK YOU for your Rubber bands idea instead of shipping tape. I am saving so much time and it does the same thing. I used to waste so much time having to make room telling the client where the can cut and creating space for them to cut without damaging the product. Thank you!!!
In Northern Virginia, the Goodwills have a bunch of junk… The closest Goodwills to me are in Sterling, Herndon, and Chantilly VA; a 30-45 minute drive (21 - 30 miles) depending on which store and traffic. I only visit them a few times a year. I have, occasionally, found good stuff to resell in them, but more often than not, I either find items that I can only flip for $8-10 profit or nothing at all.
Just speaking from my experience in the NW~ retail Goodwill and another thrift store I used to visit have priced themselves out of the market and they cull the good stuff before it even hits the floor to sell online themselves. The one saving grace is the Goodwill Bins and even they have raised their prices by a few cents. Lately even the Bins have been pretty dry and I just turn up bags of rocks, but, once every so often I manage to find a diamond, so it keeps me going back with pick in hand.
"What would you do if you weren't afraid." -Spencer Johnson
The Goodwill here I call Ill Will for cause. Jewelry disappeared right before the Pandemic, and prices went up on everything else. Prices are up still more - $4 for a normall t-shirt. Used. Anything worth buying to flip is now being sold on their own website except for a few mistakes here and there. I normally walk out these days empty-handed. Did score big with my 25% birthday discount, but that's a rarity. What used to be a $40/visit stop is now under $20/MONTH on average.
Our Goodwills used to have a loyalty program, spend $15.00 or more to get a stamp on your card. Full card (12 visits) you get 15%off. Not a spectacular perk, but if you're going to shop you might as well take it. They discontinued that this year. They do still do senior citizen Tuesday-10% off. No other sale days yet. The Salvation Army is building a new store so when they open, I expect Goodwill will start doing something. Prices have gone up for sure, still just depends when you get there and who's pricing stuff in the back!
I'm outside Philadelphia and the Goodwills near me are crap. I'm not a picker but love to look at everything and have learned a lot watching many channels. There is a big thrift store near my house that is really good and the prices are reasonable. They have color coded sales daily, one day had a rack of green tagged clothing for 49 cents each. I try to go Wednesday for 25% off for seniors. My best find was a Michel Kors navy all wool hooded toggle coat NWOT for $49; they retail from $300-350. I was thrilled! Goodwills have gotten greedy and are not the nonprofits they once were.
Goodwill in my town used to be fantastic. Now sparsely filled shelves of junk, most of which belongs in the trash.
Our goodwill moved to a very large building. It is awesome.
Goodwill around here has no videogames no electronics all the good stuff they send to their warehouse for online store..it sucks now
Other than the Goodwill bin store, I don't find deals at Goodwill. Years ago, I regularly found stuff at Goodwill to resell. No more. I find other thrift stores, church related, or pet related to be a better source. Garage sales continue to ROCK.
My Goodwill's are crap!! prices way too high! selection is very limited , shelves having less and less . Plush starts at 1.99 and goes as high as 19.99. I still go but very hard to find good items for reasonable resell profit!!
A while back goodwill started their own auction site. All the good stuff gets sent off to specific goodwills and gets auctioned off on their website. So a lot of collectable stuff goes there over local stores. Video games, cards, plush, bird games… just about all the stuff my wife and I look for go on that site. I get it from a business perspective, it’s smart for them to capitalize… sucks for resellers. Stores seem like the garage sale leftovers now. You can find some stuff, my wife and I dig through the $.39 toy bin and occasionally find stuff in the store. Prices also skyrocketed in the store it seems. Books at ours are basically 30-50% retail. Plushes are $1-15 at the local goodwills too.
It’s pronounced Eye-Ey-Uh, Aiea HI is on the island of Oahu where I live. There is a goodwill there is Aiea that I used to go to regularly when I lived 5 min away. All the thrift stores do the same thing and look up stuff on eBay and price it at a similar comp. Most of the time the item isn’t even worth reselling even when it hits half off day. I still shop thrift stores about 5 times a week. I look for items they miss and have had some luck. One item I found in the kitchen appliances bought for $20 sold the same day I listed for $175 plus shipping. There is still good stuff to find in Hawaii and I almost think they do it on purpose to keep us resellers coming back multiple times a week. Thrift stores are a good part of my business but not the only. I have branched out to online auctions and buying in bulk and have had good success with both. Here in Hawaii they are not dead, but on life support with resellers.
Goodwill's in my area have become overpriced & generic. One store is like the other. Occasionally, I'll find a decent shirt that fits me, but never for reselling. I've collected t-shirts & old hats for 20 years, but can count on my hand any pre-2000 tees that I've found in a Goodwill in the last 3 years...they're all the same tagless shirts made overseas. The Goodwill's in northern NJ mark up anything with a Nike tag 50%, even stained, worn out items. But they're not the worst. A local charity thrift sells old, beaten up polo style shirts for $6.99... even ones with holes and stains. Yes, the store is usually empty of customers.
Hey Kevin…. Kevin here.. my wife and I are part time resellers and have grown tremendously in the last 6 months. I work a full time job as a Sheriff’s Deputy, my wife works with special needs patients. We hope that she can retire soon and hopefully I’ll be able to teach her the listing and shipping part of eBay. We have a small UA-cam channel: hooked on thrifting. Our GWs around the Chattanooga area are usually hit or miss. We have 6 GWs within about a 15 mile radius. We seem to always find some items to flip for profit. Thanks for your videos, tricks of the trade and positive information. We enjoy your videos .
So out here in Southern California I was told by an employee that any good items are sold online and they list them in that specific store. So any video games, good records, golf clubs etc are listed directly from the donation center from that store.
Our East TX Goodwill stores have been horrible for the last 3 years. About 5 years ago they started to change here, by reducing bric-a-brac, electronics etc and becoming 90% clothing.
But in the last two years the prices have sky rocketed. They are shipping out 98% of all name branded items to a Goodwill distribution center then its being shipped to online listing locations. These locations are typically locations that have Goodwill bins. So if you happen to have a Goodwill bin store nearby consider yourself blessed.
I live 20 miles east of Dallas and you are correct. I usually only stop at the mom and pop places and garage sales along hwy 80.
There is no shortage of places to source but Goodwill is one I avoid.
Unfortunately they've gotten greedy auctioning off the better items that were donated for their own profit. So much for nonprofit and helping out those who really need it. The CEO makes a huge salary, around $500,000!!
@@bethb7965 Not only that but in the regional outfit in my area they give management cash bonuses based off of "production amounts" (profit amounts). So the higher they price the items the more actual cash the manager of that store takes home. It's in their best interest to siphon off the most valuable goods and send them through their e-commerce system to maximize profits.
They use us too, for their profit. They watch what us resellers buy and then make a note of it and next time it's donated they pull it or price it up. I've had managers literally write down brand names of stuff right in front of me like I'm stupid lol. Big surprise I've never found that brand of item there ever again.
The managers at stores around my area typically all drive really nice new cars too - Audi S4, 2020 BMW Z4 convertible, Audi RS5, new Bronco... I'm not even exaggerating.
My local GW $9.99 for tees 15.99 for shoes $12.99 for Long Sleeve shirts 12.99 for jeans. Store is always empty, waiting for it to finally close down.
WOW, Tees by me are $2.99 and all shoes are $6.99 in NC
Good will pricing us off the chart for sure. I went in and saw a Clearance pair of boots at$14( still had the sticker on the Box) goodwill priced at 19.00. Tops are higher than Clearance at the stores in "boutique" section.
Goodwillindy where I live near Indianapolis got rid of senior and military discounts, $0.99 clothes on Sundays, color of the week 50% off and 50% off senior Wednesdays and they raised prices on everything by 20-30%.
My Goodwill has been declining or limiting accepting donations due to lack of storage!
I've thought about telling goodwill manager I have stuff to donate but it's not allowed to be sold online just to see their reaction
on a side note. Tell your son that Pyrex is a great brand for kitchen items. I still have my first pyrex 2 cup that I bought over 42 years ago and was dropped on the floor the first day and still is in my kitchen for measuring.
I also live in virginia in spotsylvania county i frequent the goodwills quite a bit and will say the prices have gone up on almost everything but still plenty of things to flip online. I stopped looking at the shoes they are out their minds with the prices on those for w.e reason
I’m a part time reseller and the deeper and deeper I get into it I see how competitive and cut throat it can be. I initially got into it as a hobby and still find joy in it but there are times were people suck the fun out of it.
Yeah like my 8 sons who don't let me list peacefully 😅
It wasn't like this 10 years ago. It all went downhill when everyone started getting smartphones around 2012. But youre right on people sucking the fun right out of it. It was fun once.
I couldn't agree more. I've been thrifting since I was a kid, it was like a fun thing to do. But when I'm looking and someone tells me to get out of the way so they can be in that space, that's when I've had it.
@@thriftedbytracy I was super excited to go to an estate sale a few months ago. I got there and people were fighting over stuff. I ended up leaving.
Yes it's all on line
Sophie says the days back in the ebay Cave was so peaceful. Very chaotic around here now!!! 😆
lol for sure.
Fun video to watch. A variety of items sold for you which is good to see. Our thrift stores in Brisbane are rather pricey especially for clothing so I don’t bother looking.
That pillowcase is AWESOME!!! It looks King Size too. Crazy!
I saw an Ebay listing today that said the item is being sold for Goodwill. I didn't know they were doing that.
I love your wife’s and Reagan’s crocs. I have several myself. I love Eeyore as well. Nice find on the crochet Eeyore! I love seeing all the fur babies as well.
There are a bevy of online thrift stores now. I see the ads on Instagram. Crazy thing is even though GW are jacking up the prices I have managed to make the most profit from items that I find they don't have a clue about. They aren't my only source though. Some of the other thrifts are looking up sales on eBay and pricing as such. I could hear the ladies at St.Vincents talking about it.
I don't think GW's are dying out but they might limit themselves to only clothing and shoes since the dumping prices are so high. They have also changed hours. Now only open till 7 instead of 8pm. Oh and the dressing rooms have been partially closed; too much theft. Meanwhile always a pleasure Kevin. I've learned a thing or two from you. Lol
I find some things here and there Mainly electronics like cd changers $4.99 just bought and equalizer for 4.99 have it listed over 40
WOW .... TURNER is getting TALL. Great kid for sure !!
When I lived in Garland Texas the Goodwill was rediculous. Many craft items were cheaper at Dollar tree. Most item were price at eBay prices. No profit to be made. Now I am in Fayetteville NC and on only one Goodwill is so tiny and I walked in 2 times and bought nothing.
*I've been reselling for 20 + years and I can recall in the 90s people telling me Goodwill is horrible. Glad to see you have realized this for the millionth time. Sheesh.*
Made my first Bonanza sale yesterday. Just a Baseball hat but it's a start hoping i get more.
I haven't been to any thrift store in about 6 months. HiBid has been king for me 🙂
Goodwill in northern KY has overpriced everything. Most items are priced at ebay prices.
Back in 2010 half price book got so many dirt cheap stuff, until they became smart and start pricing with Amazon. Its a deal breaker when they price stuff that are outrageous high compare to ebay lol
My goodwill has now decided to up-price what little decent record albums they sell. They actually had AC/DC Back in Black for $9.99 which of course was totally fried.
Same. They've gone from $0.99 each, to $1.99 to $2.99.. that's just the "item without tag price" for records too. A lot of the time the decent albums are priced individually at $6.99 - 9.99... Which means they're sorting through... which means they're pulling out the really good stuff. And yeah they price em to the hilt without even checking or considering condition.
We have a Goodwill Outlet and I could live there. I do not resell but I do love the bargains on everyday items and occasional vintage for pennies. I don't usually buy shoes so don't notice that but it seems there is very little consistency in our regular Goodwill pricing. So I buy some, leave some.
Hi Kevin
I have a thrift store chain in my area that has an "antique" section with the items priced high. I don't see many items moving in that section. If we wanted to pay antique prices we would go to an antique shop.
Great video!
The goodwill in kingman arizona sucks the life out of us resellers, personnel in the back take all the good stuff I have never gotten a pair of tennis shoes i quit going, luckily I bought 2 years of merchandise at flea markets
I live in a small town in Southern Minnesota. We have 3 community thrift stores (two are great and one must price from eBay ASKING prices.. pretty high). The nearest Goodwill for me is 45 minutes away. Some of the prices Might be good, but they put their price labels on top of any markings for the pieces. You can't lift them to check cause it seems they are applied with super glue!!! So I don't shop there anymore...
That’s where I get the majority of my stuff. But lately the prices have gotten ridiculous
We live in a small town in Ontario Canada and two of our thrift store have put ebay price displays ect... we only have two good ones left.
I am near San Antonio. I can source good things at Goodwill here and avg cog is 5. I do prefer the bins for price but the bins here are No Bueno! I will try Austin!
Hey First Class shipping is 16 ounces if you’re using eBay labels. Do it everyday.
In the Houston area, all media has been reduced significantly. Even the racks are fewer so I assume if Goodwill changes the racks then Goodwill must be sending the media somewhere else.
Maybe in these more "dry" mid-west states, the south, etc.. I could see thrift shops starting to go under as their business declines and real estate/property values increase and make it more tempting to sell to a developer..
But if anyone thinks that thrift shops are dying, or Goodwills are dying... Visit the West Coast and that opinion will change quick. Most days I can barely find parking to get inside the Goodwills in my area and they're packed with people. Lots of groups of kids looking for vintage streetwear, lots of housewives and older people just kinda killing time and browsing/collecting.. Then there's people like me who are professionals.
If you didnt know. Goodwill now runs their own website where they auction almost anything they think may be valuable. So besides the higher prices in stores, that's why you will rarely find things very valuable in the store. The bidding on their site often gets crazy and up to full value for the items. There isn't much profit to be made if buying off their auction site. I have tried many time for things I personally wanted and the condition of the items are bad and it goes higher than I am even willing to pay for personal use let alone for reselling.
Certain items they have on a list they won't even put for sale in stores anymore after talking to some Goodwill workers. Some items are on a list that they must go online to the auction site if they receive them at the store.
I made a killing in goodwill for the last year and a half and for the last 4-5 months it’s been horrible. Prices are sky high and all there video games go to the grid. Horrible.
Enjoying your videos❤
My goodwill is trash. Catch them slippin sometimes but I don't go as much as I used to. Mostly when I am already driving by and have some time. Not worth my time.
Our goodwill is mediocre at best. The one closest to me closed in 2020 their prices had already gotten ridiculous and I had stopped shopping there. I will stop at the other ones near by but I'm definitely not making a special trip.
If you think of goodwill as another reseller that got to the garage sale first it can still work. They can't catch everything and they don't know everything but they are no longer the Goodwill we've known. That is RIP for sure. It was like shooting fish in a barrel for years so inevitable they would join the game to make more money. Yesterday I donated some books and other stuff and right in front of me they pulled out some very old books and kept separate from the other stuff thinking they were worth something. No sorry. It takes more than a quick look at a cover. But yah, they're filtering and keeping stuff for sure.
Hi 👋 I am the one who bought the glow worm for my grandson thank you 😊
