Stern survived by producing exclusively IP license-themed games, reducing production and outsourcing factory staff. At one point, Gary Stern was the only full-time employee. It had little to do with competition and everything to do with the market segment.
Don't stop saving money and you will get one. It is all matter of decision. Many people spend a lot money on cars etc but your choice don't have to follow others. I got Dialed In pinball limited edition last year for $9,500! Yes VERY expensive but absolutely worth it. One good physical pinball machine easily beats hundreds of electronic pinball sim games.
Hell yeah it is... Especially getting into it in 2021. I have 4 machines, revenge on mars, last action hero, indiana jones and judge dread and I'm up to $23,000 AUD spent. I'm about to add another two machines for another 12,000.. it's expensive!!
Stern did not phase out their competitors. Williams made the the decision to stop making games purposely and focus on slot machines. Modern Stern did not even exist until 2001.
My dad had Poseidon King of the sea pinball machine when I was growing up. I love video games, but nothing will ever beat pinball. Pinball is the best and every single machine is different. Every machine tilts differently and you can manipulate it to your advantage, sometimes.
If you love pinball, classic arcade games, and are in the Chicago area... you should check out the Galloping Ghost Arcade in Brookfield IL. They have the largest inventory of arcade games in the world.
I went to an arcade around here and they had a few pinball machines, I kind of like them. I feel like we’re too busy playing video games to play the more down to earth stuff.
A UA-camr on here, Joe's classic video games, repairs pinball machines on here, he shows all the different components and how he fixes them. He also does the electromechanical pinballs, no computers in them. To me, they are more complex than the computer ones
I think it's great to have some competition. There's been some really quality games getting put out. For the longest time I had in my head that I didn't rate Stern Pinball machines. Not the case any more. Gary is right. It is fun.
I have never understood the love people had for Space Cadet. Yeah, it was pretty neat and came with Windows 98, but Loony Labyrinth was better all around. (And then Pro Pinball came along and crushed everything with its amazingly complex tables. Check out Timeshock if you can find it.)

And i must say, the first time i played the turtles machine my dopamine was so high, god damn! the bowling alley owner has put huge subwoofers underneath the machines, the machine itself was vibrating, the lights were flashing. it was a RUSH!! as cool as bungee jumping!

Yes they are expensive but with creative ways you can make it all work out, that's what dreams do to you! I'm still trying to fill the hanger up and getting more each month, but i felt like you do... just a few years ago.
I love pinball, but I don't know "how" to play the games. Pros know how to light everything up, what ramps to hit when to score massive points, and make events happen; but most games are super unfriendly to casual players, and can be just plain hard to keep a ball afloat.

I do sometimes get surprised that where did that multiball come from etc doing that but 😂
Well Stern is the last of the original game makers of the 90s. Makers like Data East gottlieb Sega Capcom Williams all fell by the wayside. Stern was the only one that survived. Now there are New kids on the block with the likes of Jersey Jack American pinball Chicago gaming company spooky and hagas Pinball starting to come back.
Sigh... Space Cadet wasn't even the best pinball in that collection (Dragon's Keep was better). If you're looking for a good pinball game from that time, you can pick up the Pro Pinball Pack from Amazon for like $20. If you're looking for a good FREE pinball game from that time, get a copy of Loony Labyrinth and find a keygen site (LittleWing went bankrupt a few years ago, so it is impossible to purchase the game legitimately.)
Someone didn't do their fact checking. Pinball had its heyday in the 1970s until video games replaced them in the 1980s. That's actually kind of a major detail and makes me wonder about a lot of the other information presented on this channel.
What, so Attack from Mars, Airborne, Big Bang Bar, Champion Pub, Cirqus Voltaire, Demolition Man, Dirty Harry, FunHouse, The Addams Family, Twilight Zone, Medieval Madness, Monster Bash, World Cup Soccer, Tales of the Arabian Nights, Theatre of Magic, Junk Yard, Red and Ted's RoadShow, Terminator 2, Timeshock, Big Race USA, Congo, Fish Tales, Dracula, No Good Gofers, Revenge from Mars, Johnny Mnemonic, Cactus Canyon, and that one Data East game that wasn't hot garbage weren't enough for you?
By the way, I was actually alive back then and remember all the video games in the arcades with the two forgotten pinball machines off in the corner and don't need to rely on some second hand report for my information. A good journalist would have interviewed people who were alive in that era before leading the video with an incorrect piece of trivia.
Prices have only gone up on new and old machines across the board. I've gone to insane levels in the 14 years I've collected. Its a rich mans game unless you are fortunate enough to have well maintained machines locally to play.
@@LEGOpachinko By any measure there are currently MORE pinball manufacturers in the world than at any time in history. The headline is misleading at best and simply wrong. Obviously the makers of this video either don't know or didn't bother to ask anyone in the know.
@@Mikere5 Even if that is true, the headline is not factually incorrect like you stated. It is ONE of the last (not the last !) factories in the US. I highly doubt this since there were quite a few brands in the past (not only in the US but also for example Spain and Italy). The shitty thing is they're so damn expensive. Were talking 6(minimum)-14k for a new pinball machine. Theyre incredibly fun but why buy one for your home when you can buy a gaming computer, a new xbox and PS all for the price of a new pinball machine with money to spare? Hell you could buy a vehicle for that kind of money. Its sad how they're basically exclusive to wealthier individuals with no real market for everyday individuals.

There are tabletop pinball machines that cost only 30 bucks

I like Pinball because it's mechanical, it's real, it's not some dumb pixels on a screen. There is a real ball, real things that move.
It never ceases to amaze how complex the technology behind it is. How on earth do you construct something like that?
