That the UK would negotiate its own global trading terms and be more competitive because of this. Also that the UK was often out voted in the EU was often a political problem. @@christoph7395 Yes, the fact we are removing a massive incompetent bloated beurocratic turd and returning to a smaller bloated incompetent beurocratic turd is a step in the right direction.
This is the best example of not answering the questions post ever: exports into the EU have come to a halt post Brexit, innovative internatonally operating UK-based companies habe felt this first, EU workers have virtually stopped filling low-pay jobs, particularly in agriculture and the hospitality businesses. There aren't enough carers and nurses. The 1.2 mn job openings could bring full-time employment for roughly 0.5 mn people. These jobs therefore don't offer enough income to make a living of, and the non-working people don't meet the qualification criteria for these openings or aren't mobile enough. The economy has shrunk due to Brexit although Covid-19 has covered this up and has had an effect on the economy, too. The costs of living have risen so much that the poverty which before had been visible only to those who wanted to see it is now hitting the middle-classes, too. In fact, everyday lives have become so much affected by Brexit, Covid-19 as well as the war in Ukraine. So much so that Slovakia and Poland (of all places!!!) will soon overtake the UK in wealth of the ordinary people. Also, that the gap of wealth between the richest and the poorest of the society is, well, used to be, one of the largest in the EU? Has nobody known that the UK farmers received the largest proportion of EU agricultural funds to sustain them and remein competitive? Has nobody ever told the people who voted Brexit that they voted for against an EU-law that wanted to outlaw tax-evasion of the richest who on paper claimed to be non-domiciled in their countries, who had all their assets transferred to places like Jersey and Guernsey or Cyprus just so they would have a tax rate of 0 %? So, basically the poorer 90% of the electorate voted in the interest of the richer 10% of the population. People! 🫣🫣🫣
Wait I'm lost. Northern Ireland's economy is recovering better than the rest of the UK. What needs to be "fixed"? Shouldn't it be the model for the rest of the UK rather than the reverse?
The lady from the Chamber of commerce hopes that the Tories will come with improvements on the Northern Ireland protocol and EU trading. The Tories with their anti-EU stance never plan to seriously negotiate with the EU; they avoid them like the plague. They would rather bring the UK economy to its knees than negotiating with the EU.
It's not negotiating when the much bigger EU can ignore your demands. It's not a coincidence that the EU just let the UK Brexiter politicians bark and threaten to leave the negotiating table. It's all hot air because who has more to lose in a hard Brexit (full tariffs, etc.).
Why isn't the journalist being more critical regarding the optimism about the Northern Ireland Protocol. The only three ways to get rid of it is #1 rejoin the EU, #2 Northern Ireland becoming independent, #3 civil war.
These assumptions regarding the TCA are baffling. The only way solving the NI Protocol issue could improve trade with the EU is through an SPS agreement, which this government is not going to do. I am quite sure Rishi Sunak cares more about his premiership than about Northern Ireland. I really do not understand what she's expecting the committees could change. VAT rules apply to all third-country importers, visa requirements apply to all third-country citizens... These are issues under the autonomous decision-making of the EU and/or member states. The committees are there to iron out mistakes in implementing the TCA, not there to improve it or to change EU law for the benefit of the UK. That would require a negotiation mandate from the EU Council and the EU Parliament and there won't be one. The EU already has got what it wanted.
PPE VIP was highly successful in redistributing wealth. Maybe they could sell on the £10.4B excess vinyl to sex shops Gove could model as the perfect gimp
Not sure what tripe she's talking. Northern Ireland protocol effects in no way whatsoever Britain's ability to export to EU countries. It does keep northern Ireland in the customs union / single market though. Giving it a massive advantage over the rest of UK
6:03 Fantastic response to the question about tax cuts. Slapping a massive *"Sale Now On"* sticker on the UK does nothing if the foundations for productivity aren't there.
So clever, us Brexiters would never have guessed there would still be problems related to 50years of integration after a few years and a worldwide pandamic🤪
Their positive, hopeful thing is a hope that the NI protocol can be fixed. Really? The NI protocol doesn’t hamper our trade with the EU, Brexit is. Realistically, what terms can they get that will improve the UK’s economic health, outside of rejoining? None. Again, it’s all talk and slogans and no detail. Details are what matters. Really lazy reporting, re. Exporting there are 2 separate matters 1. NI Protocol - this covers GB-NI trade but allows NI to remain the SM for Goods. This has allowed the NI economy to grow 3% 2. TCA - this covers GB to EU countries- this is essentially WTO rules for export just without the tarriffs along as certain conditions are evidenced and met. Brexit left GB as a 3rd Country, it no longer trades with the EU but individual nations, this is toxic for GB based businesses.
