Ohh I had to return for this! I love my Saber! I'm Japanese so spent my childhood and youth watching anime like Macross (Robotech in the west) and other futuristic anime that always had fighters influenced by usually the F-14 Tomcat, and occasionally the F-15, so I love the Saber, just for the nostalgia I get from the design😊
My brother bought it for me without having to ask if I want it lol.

Sabre wins in atmosphere, Hornet wins in space. My opinion. I melted the Sabre for the Hornet. I prefer ballistics and the 3 size 4’s have a lot more ammo than size 3’s. Hornet does have cons it can lose wings and wing guns easily. However firepower and good aiming is amazing in master modes. Mobility does have its place especially in atmosphere. I think the Hornet may end up being a squad ship launched from Krakens or Idris or something. My thoughts.

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and putting together this comparison. I think if CIG tackles some of the Sabre's issues you mentioned, I would recommend they make its stealth comparable to Hornet Ghost. I like flying the Sabre, with only one caveat, that front exhaust/thrusters when you slow down at night really dominate your peripheral vision. I would love to take some of the devs on a night op sometime, these cockpit instruments lights also need to be user controlled. Great video.

Thanks for the review! Really appreciate your work on this. Great choice of ships to compare. The Sabre fight was not equal to the Hornet as there were 7 ship all in the same tight spot. The Hornet would have needed to run and recover as well.
I have both ships and have flown the Sabre for years, and the F7C mk2 for a few days of course. I do love how precise the new Hornet flies. Let go of the stick and it stops turning! No oversteer.
Space flight - They both have pretty similar flight characteristics. Fully loaded out, the Hornet will likely win more fights as it has more dps.
Atmosphere - The Sabre is possibly the best in the game for fighters. I think the Sabre will beat the Hornet on most fights with equal pilots. The new system might change that.
Both ships need a size 2 shield. They are medium fighters but have the same number of S1 shields as some of the cheapest ships in the game. This is really a joke and needs to be changed.
There is a HUGE issue that I have with Energy weapons. With every weapon you add, the damage of each decrease significantly. This should ONLY happen if your power plants do not have enough power to cover for extra power draw. This doesn't currently work. Sample: Sabre with Panther repeaters: 1 = 301, 2 = 234, 3 = 185, 4 = 153 - which totals - 612dps
If you use ballistics, you get full damage of course. 4x Deadbolt III = 2500
FYI: Another good similar ship is the Banu Defender. Flies much like the Sabre but has the mentioned size 2 shield.

Okay, I've been flying the MKII for a few days. Here is my review.
There are a few things to note.
1st) The sabre is a stealth fighter, more akin to the hornet ghost, than the MKII.
2nd) You're flying it completely wrong. You are trying to use pitch and yaw to move your nose on target. Thats that works great in the sabre, but in the MKII your 'bucking' is basically the wings stalling out. To solve this you turn like you turn a real life aircraft. Roll into the turn and pull up.
3rd) This ships real power comes from having access to 3 size 4 gun mounts. Which gives you access to the balistic galling guns used on the redeemer. The only balistic guns currently in game, in my opinion, with a decent ammo count. Those guns will rip through targets like a hit knife through butter.
Sure the sabre is more intuitive to handle, but if nothing else learning to use the MKII properly will give you a better idea of how to handle future flight models. Just to be clear I've taken out Arrows in PvP scenerios with it. I'm not even a good pilot. Listening to players say how bad it handles in atmo, is like listening to cyclists complaining about not having training wheels on.

@@marcuswynn89 I honestly feel like there's too much unknown/not quite implemented yet to make any real decision. master modes, stealth, proper weapon balances. I agree that the Sabre needs some tweaking but its not bad. It's a sort of zoom and boom/energy fighter, akin to something like the F4U in WW2. Fly straight and fast with an energy advantage over your opponent, (instead of stronger guns, it has stronger missiles and stealth[soontm]) hit your target with as much firepower you can in one pass and zoom off and renengage when its safe to do so.
This means that CIG needs to implement stealth properly, countermeasures, EWAR, and detection properly before the Sabre can really be judged in space. We know it's likely to be great in atmo, but again because of its size, I'm confident it will retain its energy fighter-like qualities. If its left as is for now its not terrible, I think its just missing out due to missing/WIP game features.
Honestly, I a think they could give it the 3rd shield and upsize the guns slots (2 or all 4) but balance/control/limit it simply by balancing/limiting the Power plant values. Make it so you if you put all the max upgrades on the sabre its performance tanks across the board. Examples, if you install a 3rd shield the ship wont be able to fully power its guns and/or engines. Take that a step further by saying if you choose to put all upgrades/biggest guns in the ship, you will constantly have to monitor and adjust power distribution...if you dont systems will fry and you could lose power entirely when trying to actually use all the upgrades...
I think another way to explain this is to say the ship can maintain 100% power on all systems (at idle/low usage) with it's current loadout. If you add a shield, the entire ship will basically demand , lets say, 125% of your generator's total power...which is impossible, without overclocking (damages the stock powerplant and coolers), and so you have to drop other systems down to fit within the available power demand. Additionally, if you upsize (all or just 2) of its guns to bring it more in line with newer ship's power creep, you can use ballistics but with extremely low bullet count, or use energy weapons and perform the same changes as above.
I think a big part of CIG's problem is they seem to design from the outside in, "rule of cool" and "what sells better", instead of the inside out, as well as being far to strict about ship modularity. Outside of having ridiculously oversized weaponry or decisions that make no sense from a 'realism" perspective. They always decide "X" ship is going to be this big, and it will have 4 guns...that'll look cool and people will buy it.
In the case for the Sabre, its hey lets make a cool looking but relatively oversized stealth fighter with bigger missiles...we'll figure out how to 'engineer' it later that will sell well. More lazers and guns always sells better then: We made this oversized but somewhat delicate medium fighter that comes stock as a stealthy missile deliverer . It also has some upsized gun hardpoints and an extra small shield slot but installing those comes with the cost of having to downgrade/remove/upgrade other parts and/or tinker with the ships power balance, which means you'll have to sacrifices to turn it into a brawling dogfighter.
CIG design ships of the same model with variants as individual "fully loaded"/maximum upgrades without any actual drwabacks....
      Sorry for the rant.

@@xShredsx you find things all over with different titles for it. interdiction, superiority ect.
what i dont get is why in the hell people are still running energy weapons on a stealth ship. meta hounds cant put pieces together. This ship wants to come in and hit hard it doesnt have time for shields. balistics are said to have lower signals and go through shields, plus wont need the recharge time of energy weapons if you have systems turned off.
the saber flys in and cripples a target before it shoots back thats what you do.
but i dont wanna reload my ammo... to bad you dont wanna reload your eclipse either. if you have a fleet of sabre and they get the drop on a fleet of fighters they can seriously cripple the enemy fleet and disengage.
50 fighters vs 50 fighters. sabre go in and seriously damage your fighers now you got 50 fighters at 70% health with damage components vs 50 sabre.

Don't judge any ship entirely based off current stats; Especially a newly released one. I'd just wait till 3.23 when Master Modes get added honestly, and probably the patch after that
It is currently not tuned well for atmo (It shouldnt be insane, but it definitely does suck more than it should in atmo granted a MK1 hornet with its bugged 28G can reach over 400m/s in atmo)

    • @Kalrisi_Rei
      @Kalrisi_Rei 4 місяці тому

@@UnclePorkchop Gotta disagree, the current F7C MK2 flight model is entirely thrown together place holder which was basically the pre-bug MK1 flight stats. Entire flight model for every ship being reworked. Also stalling isn't possible in SC due to us not having actual flight surfaces yet. All thrusters always push max output, atmo is just fucky in general for all ships though to be fair. The stalls you are experiencing is just due to the fucked atmospheric flight model slapped onto it, and they probably won't fix it (Or the 28G bug for the hornet MK1 apparently caused by the Fury somehow) along with any other boned ships until 3.23

@@marcuswynn89 my point is a military with jets on earth goes into space where weight isnt much of an issue and decides to put armor on its jets which increases durability and reliability in space battles but isnt well suited for atmosphere. Armor in star citizen isnt just a simple buff when its all done it gives some negation to weapon types and protects internal systems but also adds more weight ect to a ship which is why massive capital ships wont want to be in atmo if they cant land because all parts of the ships eventually will degrade and you will crash. so in atmo a jet thats 100 lb verses 1k lb is less protected but faster and has less wear on its parts flying around.
