I’m in my early 30’s so I’m very young compared to most but in mid 90’s, 1996-7 or so power pro was very new and expensive. I was one of few first people I know to use regular powerpro versus my uncle and grandfather who used nothing but 15lb-20lb mono. The laughs I got I will never forget from them. I also will never forget when my Uncle switched all his reels to braided line. 😅
Lami GSB graphite blanks, followed by braided line and the Van Staals was a huge leap forward. Like 1994-2000
The advent of braid must have been insane
Depending on the time of consumption the gravy could also be at the bottom
To me the golden ages occurred in 2 eras.
1- Post World War 2 the sport exploded and regular/blue collar folks started to fish the surf
2- 1981-1987. The amount of large fish taken between 81-83 was incredible & 84-87 cape and block island fishing was something beyond comprehension to me.
The incredible Block Island fishing of the mid-80s was well documented, but was the Cape also good then? Know of the great Nauset blitzes in the early 80s, and of course Stetzko’s fish, but was Cape Cod still fishing well in 84-87?
I would like to revise my years from 1975-1985 For the cape cod & block island golden years of surf fishing. I pulled those years directly from an article authored by one of Steve Campos buddies.
Now with social media and all the types of baits, people making videos, It used to take years and years of trail and error. Guys that put the time in did not share. Today you can learn as much as you like by watching social media !!
