Interlude: Shadow was the song that absolutely cemented Suga's role as my bias. Everything about it... the bare honestly about his mental health struggles, the message about the price of fame, the gorgeous melody and that amazing bass line, his duality in voicing both himself AND his shadow, the incredible MV with those cool Basquiat touches, the way it nests so beautifully into the Jungian trilogy of Self with Persona and Ego... when I first heard it, I think I just watched it over and over again about 20 or 30 times before I could even go on with the rest of the album. Love love love. 💜💜💜
I still can't watch, or listen to, Interlude: Shadow without being in tears. It honestly hurts me - a physical pain in my chest - everytime I listen to it. I see it come on something like this , and I'm "No! Why are you doing this to me?" Because I know it's going to hit me - and hit hard.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE Interlude: Shadow. It's such a beautiful, poignant song. And so honest. It's just that I FEEL it so hard.
It's like Yoongi calmly rips my heart right out of my chest, drops it on the ground and stomps on it, picks it up, dusts it off, then presents it back to me wrapped up in a pretty bow. (And yes, I may have thought about it a LITTLE too much).
Simply put, I have a strong, visceral, reaction to this song. And I love it so much.💜😻💜
What I understood from Shadow is that there are 2 voices in the song, one Suga/AgustD, the artist and the other Yoongi, the man, the ordinary human being and one talks and the other answers. So when he says that no one told him how lonely it was at the top it's Yoongi speaking and the starting verse that repeats "I wanna be a rapstar, I wanna be the top, I wanna be a rockstar, I want it all mine, I wanna be the king", etc is Suga talking about his dreams early on his career. The bridge part when one says that they are afraid and the other replies that they are one soul, one body and they will clash it's more of this. Such a gut wrenching song but completely genius of Suga, of course!
Ego is essential J-Hope, deep lyrics and a mastery of rhyme and rythym like only hobi can deliver, also kinda like a letter to himself, I find Be the album to be very restropective and I love it.
On is a masterpiece of a song and MV whichever type you watch and also very deep lyrics about their mental state at that time and how they were resolved to push through the pain and welcome it.
The ON music video is actually what made me an ARMY at the time. Someone I was following on twitter shared it and the symbolism in the video drew me in. My understanding of it is really tied to the fact that it dropped just a few days before my country entered the lockdown. I interpreted this video's storyline as humans overcoming their collective trauma (the war symbolized by the battlefield and the drums, the natural disasters symbolized by the shipwrecked noah's ark, the oppression symbolized by the prison jk is escaping from and the handcuffs...). When they come together and dance to bring a cleansing of the past to bring a better future of renewal (all the vegetation growing back), a new dream.
At the time where the world was stopped during the pandemic, watching this was bringing me a sort of comfort that we could push through this with this reading. Of course the video was made before c0vid broke out so this probably wasn't the intention behind it but that's how interpreted it and what made me fall into the rabbit hole.

The change up in shadow is actually to signify Suga’s shadow speaking. I am you and you are me. The shadow is a part of our psyche. Jung said that we have to realize that and embrace it to reach individuation.

RM always spoke about his persona. Who is. Is he rm or kng? Is he a rapper or an idol?
Suga has always expressed his inner struggles in his solo work especially. His demons - ie amygdala. Jhope (at least his persona) is all about hope.
They're my favorite too because the heavier sounds are just home for me.

Thank you for showing love and light to JHope. I love the rap line specifically because of the heavier, lower octaves but Hobi quickly became my favorite. He has such a humongous 💚 and spirit. He mesmerizing to watch him perform.
These are 3 of my favourites. I was singing along with these. I listen to On and Ego especially when cooking and am usually dancing around the kitchen and singing along at the top of my voice. Hubby isn’t too impressed but I don’t care. These are fantastic songs you HAVE to sing along to 💜
There is a live of ON with a marching band. MAMA 2021. I have always felt that this song didn't get it's due because of the pandemic. It would have been huge. The Map of the Soul tour would have been INSANE. 😪

I love that you mentioned the impressive camera angles because in the beginning of their career they were considered to be a knock off Kpop boy band. So they received the worst treatment and awful camera work was one of them. BTS and Hybe responded by showing how it should have been done to start with, the video on UA-cam is BTS intro performance trailer. The performance is one of my freakin' favorites because both the sound & their performance is heavy and direct. Easily one of their BEST. You need to experience it if you haven't already done so.

This common thread IS what unites us all. But I want to express my deepest gratitude to you, because I am and WILL ALWAYS BE a metal to the core. Despite the fact that I am some one's mom and do look like some one's mom now but love for a sound/a frequency emitting from the core of the soul never dies. It shines and ignites others to evolve with it. This IS what old school metal and BTS does.

20:38 yeah there's a lot going on in this video... there's loss of innocence in war (Jin's dove, and Jimin's being among the drums, and the drummer boy, bible imagery, jesus imagery (both in JK and V, death and resurrection.
it was this video that ultimately put me on to BTS's content and liking them as people and performers.

On official was so overshadowed by on km. It’s a real shame. It’s a stunning mv. Bh puts it in the description if its bu content. It’s not on ON. However it does have bu elements. Time travel. Individual struggles before uniting. So many biblical and movie references. It’s amazing.

So glad I found you and first starting liking BTS
Because of BTS's 10th anniversary I had started listening to them again. I haven't listened to much of their music since they started doing their Solo projects. I've only seen Jimin's and Agust D's Solo stuff. I even made a playlist on UA-cam for myself with all their MV's, Lives and Comabcks I liked and dance practices. I have been watching to get a tattoo in the last year for BTS but didn't want to try drawing something. But on the day they had their Fireworks event for the anniversary, I was inspired to draw something. I might get the tattoo done, but have the tattoo artist maybe make it look better.
I think the MAMA 2020 opening performance of ON had a live marching band.

John, you don't how much I love this song of Suga's .. the sad part is when he said no one told him how lonely it would be at the top .. I've heard Jin say because of their status, people find it hard to comunicate with them .. them just being humble and kind to everyone .. you are absolutely right about ON its the best video for a song I have ever seen .. there is a documentary about the making of this song and all the people who collaborated with them to get it done, you should check that out .. life goes on .. I honestly never saw a satisfying ARMY Theorist explanation of exactly what was happening in the ON MV. LOL I mean, sure. We all see the symbolism and biblical references. We can see individual things like the JK escape. But the through game is a little unclear. There are storyline references with Jin, but the word drummer boy cameo, pride rock, and SUGA's cult are a mystery to me.
This is the work of artistic director Yong-seok Choi, founder of the company Lumpens, who has worked with BTS since 2014 Boy in Luv. Throughout their filmography, if it's an amazingly artistic video, it's probably his. BS&T, Spring Day, Black Swan, etc. But this one went over the top even for Lumpens, imo. 😅

I adore all 7 of BTS and freakin' love your enthusiasm for them as well. I just wanted to address the vocalist you called JK is actually JHope. He gets looked over all lot for some reason which I will not wrap my head around that one. He was the last to get fan mail out of all of them & he almost quit.
JK convinced him to stay. Had he actually left it would have put a huge hole in the band.

So, regarding ON (the official MV) and the BU.... maaaaaybe but not exactly?
MVs that are part of the BU actually have a content note on them, if you pop open the credits and look down at the bottom: "BU content certified by Big Hit Entertainment." ON does NOT have this note. (Neither does Film Out, but there are some pretty blatant BU references in Film Out, soooo...?.)
For me, I feel like there's SOME kind of connection, because I'm pretty sure the robes they wear at the end of the dance break (just before they're destroyed by the volcano) are the SAME as the Fake Love robes. Time travel and alternate universes are a big part of the BU, so it could be that what we're seeing is a splinter universe that has no direct tie to the BU storyline.
Or... hang on...given that this whole album (and the BU) are tied to Carl Jung's "Map of the Soul" concept (btw-- Jung is Swiss, so the "J" is pronounced the German way, like a "Y"-- "Yung")... the whole thing could be a metaphor for individuation/ self-realization/ the birth of consciousness-- a person is at war with themselves until they understand the need to know and accept both their conscious and unconscious selves, to embrace the pain of facing past traumas and fears, strip away old masks, and to finally be born (or reborn) as a whole, conscious, integral person. (Jung has his own interpretations of a lot of Biblical symbols, and that could be what we're seeing referenced here. I admit it's been a looooong time since I've read Jung.)
And if you don't like that idea... there are at least five different explainers out there for the video, and none of them completely agree :D

@Cynthia Brinker Omg 😂 I remember that and now that's all I hear! His vocals are just as angelic even with those lyrics running thru my head lol. I had my mom listen to the song with no hint about the missing heard lyric then told her the other lyrics and had her listen again. She instantly broke out in giggles. On top of that she really liked the song and both versions of the video.🎉

I just thought of a story line for the cinematic ON video. These are magical god blessed people and some unseen bad people went to war with them because they stole the Prince JK for his magical powers. But during the war many died on both sides and were n the midst of the chaos Prince JK got away and then after many days of running he found the magic shell horn and let his people know he was free! But their land was ruined so they had to look for new fertile land and they moved on to this land with a Simba mountain in it and they went up the face of the mountain rock to see their beautiful new magical kingdom 💜🥂
