    • @blackseed68
      @blackseed68 Рік тому +6

@@littlebigkicker that's a tough one. If we're talking simply story beats 3 is better. I also prefer the situational kills in chapter 3 more. Johns in a library, so he kills a guy with a book. He's in an antique gun story, so he rebuilds a rusted gun in 40 seconds, before firing a single shot. He's chased into a horse stable, so he spurs a couple of them and they kick a few guys to death, then he gallops away. So on and so forth.
Like Ben said, chapter 4 is more about quantity with more guns, more blades, and longer fights. But not enough, unique set pieces to change things up. So it can get repetitive after awhile. But if your a fan of action movies or video games, you won't care. Besides the addition of donnie yen's character helps break-up the monotony. His blind assassin fight scenes are gonna be iconic one day.
Oh, and John doesn't take nearly as much damage as he did in previos movies. Which might bug people cause he fights way more often.

i do think its the difference between a controlled hit and not one. Like, you can get hit by a car and walk away. logically body armour would also protect your flesh from being scrapped off by the ground. I've been hit by a car in real life, I saw it, i lifted my leg up because i did some wrestling and our instructor used to do some stunt stuff. I rolled up on top, hit windscreen and got spat back down and cradled into a ball. It wasn't fun... but i was fine... ish, scrapes and bruises

I get it it is pretty unrealistic but if you watch closely pretty much every time, if not all the time, John Wick jumps when someone hits him so he lands on the hood and rolls up on the windshield whereas he kicks and throws his opponents into a moving vehicle or they get hit with the car smashing their legs/knees. I might be wrong but I paid attention and that’s the conclusion I came up with. To me the really crazy part was when he jumped out of the window and landed on the car below and onto the pavement or in the third movie when Winston shot him and he fell off the roof. I am pretty sure in real life if someone fell that violently they would be dead or paralyzed. But hey, he’s John Wick the man sent to kill the boogeyman!

  • @aus10er87
    @aus10er87 Рік тому +47

Okay so literally just before the dual scene they said “those that cling to death live and those that cling to life die” John realized he was clinging to the death of his wife and Caine was clinging to the life of his daughter who was still living. John gave himself up knowing that the only way for him and the ones he cared about could go free was by his death. Also, yes, Caine and John both knew that the Marquise’s pride would cause him to overstep and put him in harms way inadvertently (kinda like Commodus in Gladiator). John capitalized on his arrogance.

I think he's still alive, I think that "John wick" is dead but jardani is still alive far from any allies or his old life, because why else would he kill the marquis knowing he would just be replaced, he knew that killing him would give him his freedom and no one from the high table would seek him out. Also why Winston said who knows when bowery king asked if he's in heaven or hell.

It's pointless for John Wick to take on the table because he can kill 100 elders and another 1,000 will step in to replace them, all hungry for power. I believe Winston made this point to John and so the strategy became to use the table's own power to their advantage. Hence the table's duel rule which was designed to keep the table members in check.

The Table is like a Hydra as explained by Winston. Using Winston's sense of logic, John made the right choice, the most sensible one. Killing his opponents does not give him peace and he, always on the run would exhaust him and he knows that it's just a matter of time that the high table would get him. John wants his freedom and the old ways rule is the easiest way to attain it rather than killing all of the high table which can just hire tons of assassins. The Marquis man is the tool of the high table to kill John Wick, he can utilize the resources of the high table at his disposal to advance the high table's interests. So killing the Marquis is also sensible since it will just show the high table that if they do not honor their own rules, all of them can suffer the same fate of the deceased marquis.

When the Bowery asks Winston whether he thinks John went to Heaven or Hell, Winston tells him "Who knows?" and John's pitbull, who the Bowery is taking care of in 4, also looks off to the left after Winston answers him, like he's seeing John standing off in the distance. And I am more than willing to bet that though John did get wounded pretty bad, he had the doc or someone else fix him while Winston had his headstone made up and buried alongside his wife's. Essentially, Winston helps fake John's death so he can finally have the peace he so desires. Of course, it also means that John needs to stay out of sight or change his appearance to make it harder for potential assassins to come after him and collect that $40M bounty. Plus, I suspect Rina's character trying to kill Caine will have further implications for the future of the Continental and the High Table, which may somehow drag John back in to the life he's been trying to leave behind him.

The problem is most of the plot holes you say are kind of resolved if you think about it, which means at least someone in the writer's room decided to give it a thought, but the audience of these movies never ask these questions, so I guess makers never bothered to answer them.
Regarding duel, there are 2 important conditions why it didn't happen before:
    1. The person JW kills must have power to exonerate him
    2. His duel must be sponsored by his family (The russian group)
John was already out of favour with his family, still he could have asked them to sponsor a duel. But the biggest issue is no one had the power before Marquee to exonerate him, except the elder. And given the consequences here, I doubt any family would have sponsored duel against the elder.
Since Marquee was given power of complete authority of the table, challenging him was a unique option not available before.
I agree it was disappointing not to see John go against the whole table, but I guess that's because it was an impossible plot point anyways. Even if you kill all families, a new head (say Bowry king) will take their place and rule the same system. It's like saying you can end crime by killing biggest mafioso, and that is stupid plotline. John's motivation was to simply kill enough people till the table backs off. He had no revenge for table or winston, but he would have killed them without remorse if they came in his way.
It is difficult to explain why Bowry king didn't use some tinted glass car or some other discrete mode of transportation to move John closer to stairs, but one reason could be to not allow any evidencd of him helping John out in public. If he would have dropped John personally to staircase, even if John had won, King's life would be forefeit.
It is damned if you do and damned if you don't when it comes to long action sequences. It creates a logistical problem if your premise is a whole army of assassins is coming after John, but the wave ends after 5 people. I think these guys made fights interesting enough to make them enjoyable even if they are long. Akira's scenes in continental are really unique and complement John's numerous BJJ takedowns.

A few things to counter Shapiro’s faults with the film:
    1. If you remember in the third film, Wick was asked why he still lives. His response was that he wants to remember his wife and remember the relationship they had. THAT is his motivation for living. THAT is why he wants to be free; so he can live his free and remember his wife peacefully.
    2. Wick had a change in motivation! This was the first time that Wick realized he couldn’t do his original goal. He wanted to take down the high table, but he realized he couldn’t do that. When he spoke with Winston in NYC, Winston asked John when the end will arrive. He then proceeded to say that no matter how many heads John Wick killed, the High Table will have more heads than he has bullets.
    3. Wick went to Osaka to get help. The Japanese Father (the one with long hair) was a friend of Wick. He knows the NYC Continental is finished. If the building wasn’t blown up, Wick would have most likely went there instead of the Osaka Continental.
    4. The only thing valid from his stupid video is the logistics of the action scene. Yes, it is somewhat unrealistic how Wick was able to survive the falls. I assume that he was able to survive the falls as he is 1.) used to them by now, and 2.) protected by his armor. (Note: this is just a theory) However, Shapiro mentions that Killa died from a fall. THAT IS BECAUSE HE FELL HEAD FIRST. Wick did not fall headfirst!

We agree that I do not believe Wick is dead. I also laughed during the later half of the stairs scene, but in a loving ha, ha, I love you, and this is funny kind of way.

Continuing to bring in the dog fight scenes was another smart move, imo. I found the new characters interesting.
Yes, Winston's dentures looked way bigger and seemed to stick out more, but I love his character and how he's always helped John, at his own peril, I might add. The death of the loyal friend Charon made me cry a little and I'm sad to know that he passed away in real life.
I disagree with you as well regarding the fat basted character. He was different than the fit, slim Asian characters, John is always fighting, and he had some cool moves for a big dude, even if running isn't one of them, LoL.
I hope there's a John Wick 5. I'll be there, excited to watch it.

I dont think they took down the table because they plan on doing some spinoff series about other characters. And I do agree it was a bit much with all the falling down extreme heights and not really being hurt lol, but oh well. Also john wick had a bullet proof thing underneath the suit, in the duel when they are taking off there suits he takes off the suit and something underneath that are both bullet proof before he gets to his shirt which is not.

I think 4 should be the epic conclusion of John's story simply because it ended in his demise. Which in hindsight it should've been obvious how his story was going to end from the moment he was brought back into the assassin life.
I mean. It's been about two weeks since he lost his wife. Maybe more. He's never had time to properly grieve. And I think him losing his dog, his car, and his home flipped a suicide switch in his head.
He wanted to die. He just didn't want to go out by his own hands but rather in a blaze of glory.
He wanted to die swinging and wrecking the system of the underworld. Which he did by killing not only the Elder of the High Table but also marquis and just about maybe 200 people in the span of a few hours.
He accomplished everything he set out to do and died at the hands of someone he called a "brother". No better end than that.

    My Criticisms of JW4 (spoilers):
    1. JW is immune to fall damage, surviving two fatal falls unharmed.
    2. No reaction from others in the club during the shootout.
    3. Killa's face shows no signs of bleeding despite being repeatedly punched by JW. This makes JW look weak.
    4. The High Table is still out there; nothing has changed.
    5. While I understand the hand-to-hand combat, believability is stretched as Caine, a blind man shoots with remarkable accuracy, making the final duel a joke.
    6. Caine and Winston do not help John when he is dying.
    7. Absence of proper farewell and no return of original characters like Aurelio.
    8. The finale benefits Winston with his hotel, JW and Caine with freedom, but the Bowery King doesn't get his revenge, it was the only reason he saved JW.
Despite these issues, JW4 is still a great film, though it may be the weakest in the John Wick series, it stands as one of the best action movies of this decade.

I disagree. It still needs to make sense within the bounds of the movie universe. No one has superpowers and it's in the usual human world. This movie went full on Marvel superhero. If Wick started flying around shooting lasers from his eyes, that would be nonsense, yet the movie isn't far from that where he's literally invulnerable by surviving things that even Wolverine in Xmen would take some time to heal.
Ironically i think Shapiro has the best review of the movie.

What I liked so much about the 1st is that it was more real than most movies like that, he actually had to reload, he was actually vulnerable, he actually missed sometimes and the bad guys didn't fire off a million rounds and hit absolutely nothing. Then for the next 2 movies they just tossed that all out the window and decided to just make them as crazy as possible. Which was still good. Just not the same unique grittiness of the 1st.

I thought the movie was great, second favorite after number one. I do agree 20 minutes of the action could have been cut out and it would have been better. However, in regards to taking down the table I think Ben missed a critical line between John and Winston. When John tells hims he's going to take down the table, Winston says, that's pretty much like taking out the entire world, there aren't enough bullets. So instead he finds a way to actually free himself from the table so he can die free and be with his wife.

I do think they could have had John kill a member of the table and preserve the story for future movies but it seems like they are going to go full Fast and Furious franchise and soon we will find out a member of the table is actually located on a secret moon base and John will be fighting moon ninja's to get to him.

I'll admit I was hoping this one would be the "war" foretold in Parabellum. A war against the high table (which I guess it kinda is in some regards). But that he didn't kill all of the High Table was a disappointment. I would be perfectly happy with a 5th and final movie in which he just has something of a boss-rush against every member of the High Table to finally destroy the world of Assassins that took his life and that of so many others.
For what it was, JW4 is the best John Wick movie I've seen because it was a natural evolution and escalation of what the previous films established as the rules and laws of this fictional world.
