Good stuff as always Daryl, really dug the weighted random selection expression. One Xgen problem I seem to have intermittent success with is batch rendering my x-gen systems once they are set up. Static descriptions like the one in this video are fairly straight forward but things get a little murky when for example rendering a x-gen description that is building several hairs, drivin by a nHair system curve used as a guide and then I want to toss in motion blur. I would love to see a breakdown on the correct way to cache different x-gen systems for batch. I have tossed away beautiful x-gen systems simple cause I couldn't figure out how to make them show up in batch render correctly by my deadline.

Hey Daryl. How do you get a render farm to see archives? All of my archives are located inside the project directory /xgen/archives. On import it shows them as 0 "${PROJECT}/xgen/etc... But our render farm can not find this directory. I've already changed the file path at the top menu to include both ${PROJECT} and the literal file path all the way back to the //192.168.IP Address and it still can not locate these archives. Also at render time it throws an error. Error: XGen: Failed to find /Volumes/San/..../xgen/abc/archive.abc Search path includes. Volumes/San/..../The Project Directory a second time//xgen/archives/abc/archive.abc

I have been working in a scene that became quite heavy to my computer and it can't handle it, it still needs more stuff to be added to it. I thought I would break the scene in layers to render it (it is going to be a short movie about 25 seconds) So, I am wondering if you have or do a tutorial about render layers for large scene or if you have a better solution for this kind of situation?Any help I will really appreciate ... and another doubt please if you don't mind to share your computer settings with us ?

Hi Daryl, as always thanks for this great tips. I'm wondering why are you still in W7, does Maya 2016 works best and stable in Windows 7? And is VP2 as good on OpenCL, as DX11 mode for a GTX GPU. In my head I think OpenCl = Quadro; DX11 = GTX. But I've experiencing problems with nvidia drivers in DX11. My VP2 goes black, And I need to switch to OpenCl to fix it. Cheers

Have you tried the new curve to guide dynamic link it may help
