    Everything is expression... they expect artists to become scripters before using any of these. Bravo. Multiscatter is a small tool who does more than this in less time.

    Good stuff as always Daryl, really dug the weighted random selection expression.
    One Xgen problem I seem to have intermittent success with is batch rendering my x-gen systems once they are set up. Static descriptions like the one in this video are fairly straight forward but things get a little murky when for example rendering a x-gen description that is building several hairs, drivin by a nHair system curve used as a guide and then I want to toss in motion blur. I would love to see a breakdown on the correct way to cache different x-gen systems for batch. I have tossed away beautiful x-gen systems simple cause I couldn't figure out how to make them show up in batch render correctly by my deadline.

      Have you tried the new curve to guide dynamic link it may help

    Nice tips, i'm going to use Xgen soon for styling a realistic character and can't wait to test it out and see how it will look.

    Hi Daryl, thanks for making this video, i worked for me really well, but there's a problem, when I change the 'Around N', the archives' texture become black, is there anyway i can prevent that? If yes, how? Thank you :D

    hi daryl thanks for this tutorial,i have just one question/problem .Sometimes when i try to create an archive maya save the mesh as a file .log and not as a xarc file so i can t import the mesh.WHY?? thank u very much

    Hey Daryl. How do you get a render farm to see archives? All of my archives are located inside the project directory /xgen/archives. On import it shows them as 0 "${PROJECT}/xgen/etc... But our render farm can not find this directory. I've already changed the file path at the top menu to include both ${PROJECT} and the literal file path all the way back to the //192.168.IP Address and it still can not locate these archives. Also at render time it throws an error. Error: XGen: Failed to find /Volumes/San/..../xgen/abc/archive.abc Search path includes. Volumes/San/..../The Project Directory a second time//xgen/archives/abc/archive.abc

      Hi Daryl. I have been watching your tutorials for while and they are very useful for all the Maya users thanks again, I would like to know if you can help me out with my problem? I have been working in a scene that became quite heavy to my computer and it can't handle it, it still needs more stuff to be added to it. I thought I would break the scene in layers to render it (it is going to be a short movie about 25 seconds) So, I am wondering if you have or do a tutorial about render layers for large scene or if you have a better solution for this kind of situation?Any help I will really appreciate ... and another doubt please if you don't mind to share your computer settings with us ?

    One question though: You're using custom meshes instead of the standard library, can these still be animated by dynamics? Can they react to lets say wind?

    hello sir, i followed your instructions and tips, im having problem with batch rendering.. im using maya 2016 and i tried to render me scene with xgen archives.. with depth and AO pass, but it doesnt batch render.. i tried to find solutions from various sites but nothing seems to work, any tips on how to batch render it using mental ray with passes?

    ptex maps takes too long to create whatever res i use. both initiating painting and saving map. painting itself is dont have problem itself. what should i do?

    Hello daryl,
    thanks for the great tutorial. I'd like some help because I got a bug that I can't fix. Xgen doesn't export the alembic file. I can see the grass on the viewport but I can't render out. Have you got any idea how to fix that?!
    Here it is the error :
    Warning: Ignoring unsupported flag: ....test__c.abc //
    // Error: Can't write to file: .....

    Hi Daryl, as always thanks for this great tips.
    I'm wondering why are you still in W7, does Maya 2016 works best and stable in Windows 7?
    And is VP2 as good on OpenCL, as DX11 mode for a GTX GPU. In my head I think OpenCl = Quadro; DX11 = GTX. But I've experiencing problems with nvidia drivers in DX11. My VP2 goes black, And I need to switch to OpenCl to fix it. Cheers

      I am lazy and until I get a new computer it's win7 for me:-) I use both DX11 and OpenGL and both have been super solid for me. I did have a Titan card in the box for a few months and its was fine with openGL
