- Arturia has introduced a new budget-friendly, all analog, standalone drum machine. Naturally, Mad Zach wanted to put it through the paces. Read more here: djtech.tools/DJ... | Grab a DrumBrute here: djtech.tools/dr...
Great video. Been obsessed with this thing. I bought one used from a friend over the weekend. I almost mastered it in a day. I ran the main out into a compression rack, an EQ racks and an old 90's Qudaverb rack. Sounds incredible. Also hooked up two Behringer TD3's to it for a nice live acid house set up.
I've been hoping someone would do a techno jam on it. Didn't think that person would be Mad Zach. Nice one! Would love to hear someone process it through a DAW.
yes, i think this thing will shine when smashed through some pumpy distortion :)
Django Flaherty it sounds amazing processed
hahha i know i was thinking the same thing... the demos i saw were really lame stuff... was kinda disapointed, but then madzach comes along and does a techno loop... the only thing missing from it is a drive effect on the master out....... you could totalyl route it in a DAW but for live you'd need a pedal at least.....
It sounds cool but im not sure which one i like more, the tr-08 or this! this def looks nicer and is true analog but tr-08 is more than adequate for Vanalog and also has built in delay andreverb :D
I'm REALLY tired of Roland's drum sounds, but maybe that's just me. I can't believe they're still rehashing them. I'd much rather have this.
Django Flaherty true. I watched a tr8 v's this comparison and the drum sounds on the tr8 def feel bland and uninteresting. Also saw one running this into a hardware compressor and it sounded AMAZING
Got mine on the way! I cannot wait to matrix this with other sequencers and solo the outs through different fx chains.
Just one hint:This is an analog drum machine, it sounds like an analog drum machine, you can/have to tweak it like an analog drum machine.
If you do not like the sounds of analog drum machines, do NOT watch this video and do NOT buy this instrument. That will help you and us.
Thanks.
Tacheles Reden So many entitled people in all the Drumbrute videos. There’s a huge handful that really want/need a sampler and expect the Drumbrute to be something it’s not. So many people mad it doesn’t sound just like an 808, 909, or a LinnDrum.
Wow your the first reviewer to actually make it sound good, Id actually consider buying the drum brute now.
I ordered mine on friday cant wait.
Mr. Irrelevant how you liking it a couple months later?
David Holmes i happy with it the ability to change the swing on each individual track can make for some great drum patterns. The only drawback is that it is very much a retro drum machine so if you dont like 808, 909ish sounds it may be underwhelming. However I have been using it to drive NI Battery through usb and its been great. Also the build quality is a big step up from Beat step and Minibrute.
oh shit it's mad zach
is he like mad as in a murderer? there's something psychotic going on there...
Hell yessss, about to patch this into my moog mother 32 and disappear for a while!!
This looks like a great drum machine to jam live
Nice overview, one of the more helpful ones available.
My tuppence's worth: this was a half-assed review done by someone who would be much happier reviewing something with a laptop/Akai pads stuck to it. There are other, more thorough reviews of the Drum Brute than this, IMO.
Its sounds like Ultrabeat in Logic Pro.Have a listen.
Holy shit you're right.
Finally a good review of the drum brute.
Nice demo, thanks ,thinking of getting one.
Dope beat and a good demo!! On the want list 👍
Just going to wait and cop one 2nd hand
Thank you for the nutshell. Now it's ordered :)
Been trying to decide between this and the Tanzmaus. Ideally I'd have both. Tanzmaus has parameter locksand CC control which makes it more attractive.
tanzmaus. wider range of tweakability more diverse and doesn't sound muffled. and yeah parameter locks. and verrrrrry good sounds.
"This is called 'Impact.' I dunno if that's what I would call that." What a tool.
I almost recognized the four-on-the-floor kick myself, almost! ;-)
I'm looking to purchase a drum machine soon, I was wondering how this compares to the Roland Tr-8 for just $50 more? Thanks.
Hello my friend.
Two doubts, for me to start using DrumBrute for recordings that I add to my acoustic drum, I just need a sound box, something like that? or also a sound table? do I have the option to save in DrumBrute and then release them as a Loop? Thank you very much.
hug.
He has the level cranked on most of the sounds. The hats don't have to sound so gritty if you don't want
misded you man and this channel thanks to quarantine
I like you pro box tables your using very classy!
Hmm looks realy nice, I need to try it in the music store.
I usually program my own drum sounds on my Prophet 6 but this might replace that. I was looking for early Human League style Analog synth drums and this sounds pretty dead on.
Best review of it I managed to find. Good stuff.
sick beats dude!
I like the layout and tweakability but I need a sound library/samples, something for producing and live performance. Much rather buy the Akai MPC Touch. Different products I know.
Another approach would be the Nord Drum 3P & the Nord Beat iPad app for Midi sequencing
Richard Williams you can still use this with something like Battery. Because the sequencer sends out midi notes at the same time.
Should I get this or the TR8s and why?
"basically it's a drum machine"
OK, I'm good
GREAT JOB!
While some gripe about the sound quality, you do get a lot for $450 - in fact to move up you need to spend 3x (Elektron) to 4x (Tempest) more $. But even those with the "gold standard" original 808 and 909 all process their sounds anyway - so what is so bad about putting your own personal touch on the output of this machine?
Hi. Can I send midi patterns using Ableton to generate the sound in Drumebrute?
Thx Mad Zach!!
клёвая драм машинка для экспериментальных стилей.
Can this be connected directly to a mixer for band use? thank you
Yes.
Nice video! I despise the zap sound though.
can you do video with the Volca Sample?
Great job rhanks
Please compare this one with the Roland TR-8!!
I need it!
i would like to know if this one works with a vst such as battery(midi). would be cool if all the knobs are midi mapped to parameters. i know lots of people did it with samplers in the old days, with the 909 in midi out mode. lots of fun. try it :)
its all analog and its not possible to send or receive parameters midi cc. just like with other brutes.
actually it can send and receive midi via the 5 pin din midi in and out or USB with the use of the midi control center
but not midi cc
It would be rather pointless to purchase an analog drum machine just to use it as a midi controller. Perhaps look in to knob-banks such as the Behringer BCR-2000
://about _blank ofcourse, but midi cc would be useful for automations in DAW.
Awesome!! God Bless!! :D
Hey MZ, would u prefere this or the ROLAND TR-8?? or would recommend something else for jamming like this live??
Hey! How i conect the drumbrute to fl studio 11 and make it work? Please help
Dude have a contest to chill with you for a day.
cool video! thx!
I'm planning on going wild on the individual outs. This + Mixer + pedal board + RC-500... or
is it better than the native maschine pro?
Thinking of selling my TR-8 to get this, thoughts?
keep it
Anyone know the models of the two two MoogerFoogers in video?
Everyone talks shit on the drumbrute. I have one its fucken awsome
nice! can someone bring in vocals into it...? thank you for an answer.
There's no audio in from what I understand so you can't do that.
Drop a tom down low and use it as a kick.
I’ve played with it for an hour today... I was really disappointed with the sounds. I was sure I’d buy it when I went to the shop but the variety of sounds isn’t really all that big and even though they seem plenty, there aren’t really all that much parameters to play with. I’ll stay with sampled drums on the MPC.
Do you feel the same way about all analog drum machines?
This thing sounds amazing, especially the toms. Disappointed by the kick though.
this has its own quirky sound kind of like something Dave Porter would use .....breaking bad
You can really get a groove going, for sure lol
What is in his ear? Is that an ear plug, or a hearing aid?
PigeonPigeonPigeon1 in-ear monitors
$500 buys an “Intro-level” drum machine?
So for that kind of money can I assume you can use those knobs as a submixer?
They have come down in price if you buy used. You can get one for like $350.00 now.
deja vu
claps sound nice methinks.
cool
Looks fun to play tho
ok now I get it. 10 mins in
I heard "Zack" and thought it was the keyboard secret sauce guy...
Is it just me or does this sound a bit shit? Maybe I'm missing something? I love Arturias analogue and digital synthesis more than anything but this just seems a bit shit. For me drums are better with digital. With SparkLE I have far more options. Maybe this could be fun to play around with but I don't really get the point of it.
Ben Morris dont judge it until you hear it in person. This guy totally forgot the accent page. You will probably like it.
Fair point...I'm sure in the flesh it's the bol locks!! I do love and highly respect Arturia.
If I had the money right now I would be buying no question. Just trying to make myself feel better about not having one
]
Ben Morris Hey, was thinkin of buying sparkle, would you reccomend it?
Yeah great bit of kit! Very versatile, quite heavy on the processor but well worth it. Any other questions regarding it? give me a shout :)
WOW another one of these demos with ANOTHER 4 on the floor beat.. That's totally not being done by others.
id rather watch a 4 on the floor beat over a rap/trap beat that literally everyone is doing
show eu tem uma da alesia 16
The kicks are meh, but the rest sounds great. Hats, especially. I'd love a version of this without any kicks, and another hat or tom channel.
Eargasm at 10:50 and then again at 11:03 ^_^
Notice he didn't really play the SNARE. It's to me the weakest sounding part of this machine. Kind of a deal breaker for me.
Anyone here thinks the sounds coming through this machine not sounding great? My ears are not impressed by the quality of sound. However, my eyes loved the look of it. Confused!!
I love Madzach's stuff but I think this one was a bit too tasteless. Being so creative was expecting a bit more. Hopefully he would make another one showing his "real" style, but I doubt it.
best demo ever, although you do not like the drum machine man
The kick has sounded weak on every single drumbrute demo I've seen (except one where it was being over driven by some modular units). Even on good speakers. It's as if there's absolutely no sub quality to it at all. No bass. And yet 90% of the reviewers love it. Then I'll go check out demos for a Tr-09 which is less expensive and virtual analog, and that thing sounds massive! Mi no comprende
Just wait til you hear it in person. On all of the demo they forget to add accent to the kick. It sounds too quiet without the accent. I thought the same until I got mine. You will like it trust me.
Those Tambourines!?!!?
Can you change the sounds?
Nope. You can only modify the existing ones.
7:48 vibes
That's Polymeter not polyrhythm.
oh my god mad zach not front of a computer!
I've never heard a drum machine that sounded good. Why not use samples? There are amazing ones out there that sound 10x as fat. Is it the oldschool feel people are after or what?
he called it Rough
Nice product design, but the sound is not my type.
You made the same comment in nearly every video about the Arturia DrumBrute. This tells me you secretly love the sound.
Thank God for Quantize. Noe EVERYONE can be a “Drummer”. Lol
ugh...that sound quality is really lacking for $450, entry level or not
Sonic Broom it's not really meant for its stock sounds. These things are like video games. All about the DLC. Once you route it to other things, that's when you really unlock it's true potential.
***** But its not marketed as a sampler, which is what you are describing. Its marketed and even named as a drum machine. No one had to ever do 'DLC' for the 808 or 909
Missing the point. Nobody uses any of these just for their stock sounds. Including 909. They don't leave it as is. It's a matter of engineering & adding your own things to give it your own personal touch. If not then people would use stock DAW sounds without processing them.
***** idk what you're talking about. Plenty of ppl use stock 909 sounds. Unless you mean 'engineering' as in modifying the ADSR on the samples. But even then, your modification of a 909 Kick is still based on a stock 909 sound. Then of course ppl might put them through a DAW and add effects and what not, but thats not what you were originally saying.
You were saying that ppl add in their own sounds to drum machines, which they might...but the fact remains that any decent drum machine, esp. for $450 should sound a fuck ton better than that for stock sounds. bc u would be retarded to spend $450 and then use this as a sampler when there are much cheaper samplers.
I never said sampler
no balls at all, I just sold mine and got a roland tr 707 for 500 bucks what a difference! the drumbrute sounds like dust compared to other drum machines. better off even with an sr16. save up few more months and get something better. you got to spend a little more to get good analog gear. nice design, terrible electronics. first drumbrute I got the congas didn't even work so I had to exchange it, now people are saying the maracas are going silent. less time trying to make drums sound good and more time spent on making tunes.
This thing sounds flatter than a flapjack
Mad Zach...Oh the irony
For some reason, the sound of the Arturia its pretty blame, for the price, Rolland its way better , When the master Mad Zack add toms , its started to sound better, but still..
plak pick pook //// such a shame/ wick (unlike wicked) sounding machine, not sounds that cut through a mix. real shame.
drums sound really flimsy and not enough depth
amon tri They actually sound good he just forgot to add accents.
Find me a demo on youtube that sounds good, I dare you...
No Cowbell....😬🙄
actually I dissapointed with kicks. Else is great.
It's a 909 clone and a 606/808 clone, in one box. For $450. What's there to be disappointed about?
Conjured Circuits said that. kicks are not fat and versatile.. it's kind of volca sound with small portion of variety, which will end in playing with toy but not studio usage
D Sek7or just wait til you hear it in person. This guy didnt use the accent page which made the kicks sound too quiet. They are actually pretty good more 909ish than 808ish.
mad zach seen not really happy with this drum machine
Garbage hi hat you can tell he hates it haha
Seems better to choose a person that actually knows the specific characters and general circuit concepts of a 909 and 808 bass drum...to do reviews of important products. "not too excited about the bass drum"?!!!! WTF? Seriously? Hmmmmm...
Mad Zaaaach! i just got a drumbrute! i didnt know of your store or i would have bought it from ya!
ringmodulatorish hat
