No autotune.
No pitch correction.
No canned background vocals, or tracks at all - certainly no lip syncing.
Just real, live talent.
Neil Schon was one of the most underated guitarist of the '80s he is still fantastic today!
So true
Came to say this and he joined Santana when he was 17.
He was the leader of Journey and he came from the renowned Carlos Santana band since he was fourteen.
@@juliaparker6371
I think he was fourteen.
Too bad he's a huge asshole.
You just can’t beat Journey for great vocals, musicality, great Melodie’s , musicianship, etc.
Forget the silly clothes/ it’s all about the talent! No autotune.
Neil Schon played in Santana at 15 years of age - the dude is a beast on the guitar...
Lead singer Steve Perry - one of the best vocalists ever.
Journey is one amazing band! We had great music in the 80s. It was a great time to grow up, especially to be a teenager and in college.
Who needs a studio, when your live performances are record production quality.
Journey Mother Father live in Houston the vocal acrobatics are incredible ❤❤❤❤
Wow, I love Journey. A deep rabbit hole to explore. They were amazing in concert. I only saw them with Steve Perry….the best!!
This entire concert made it out on DVD; you can still find it places; It's fabulous. This was filmed the first night of two 1981 shows in the Summit Arena in Houston, TX; I made it to the second show the night after (still have the ticket stub). It was one of the best concerts ever!
Steve Perry was one of the greatest lead singers of all time. I personally prefer 70's Journey to 80's Journey but both are good. Next listen to "Lights."
Me too I like to 70s and early 80s as well a lot of good guitar
And you HAVE to play Sat Awhile at the same time. They were meant to be paired.
I just got Into them in 1977 ,Myself I prefer the 80
This song has been nominated by multiple musical talents as having one of the best outro guitar solos.
I didn't know that but it makes sense. It's an incredible solo!
I believe this is the song where the record producers wanted to cut out that guitar solo, saying it was too long. Steve Perry said nope and so now we have that great ending to this song.
That's absurd good for Steve Neal is a great guitarist he learned from Santana
A true Rock Anthem. Steve Perry's timeless voice. Exquisite as ever.
"Stone In Love" , the song of my teenage years.
Do "Don't stop believing" and "Mother Father" from the same concert. Vocal and instrumental performance is epic.
More Journey! Mother, Father from same live concert is AMAZING!!!
Your (her) face alllllll the way through the guitar solo! Yesssss!!!! You get it, ... feel the vibe! I don't recall you smiling like that long on ANY other reaction video.

Her Dave, since you guys have committed to going down the Journey Rabbit Hole, here's a few songs that you should definitely check out:
Lovin', Touchin', And Squeezin
Open Arms
Lights
Wheel In The Sky
Faithfully
Separate Ways
Send Her My Love
Any Way You Want It
Dave & Ash, I love your reactions and your humor! Back in the day, they were true musicians! It sounds cliche' but the artists actually had talent! They all did, competing for sales and airtime on the radio against other talented individuals, groups and bands. That's how you get 'iconic' musical decades like the 70's and 80's - music that's still being listened to and loved 40 and 50 years later!
one of my favorite live performances...and that guitar solo always impressive
That last Tron movie had Separate Ways in it. The son walked into the arcade, turns the power on and the jukebox is blaring. The whole feeling of that scene was pure nostalgia =)
Journey had a song, "Only Solutions", on the original Tron soundtrack, too.
So glad you’re listening to Journey! My favorite band and favorite rock vocalist, Steve Perry, aka “The Voice”. Neal Schon’s guitar solo in this song is one of my absolute favorites!!!!! Steve Perry gets all the accolades, and rightfully so, but Neal Schon is an equal star in this song. Just amazing. At that time, there was no auto tune, no piped in music, just pure talent.
I saw journey at boston garden in 1983 . Its etched in my mind i was 16
I was at that concert it was so awesome my favorite band. I'm lucky I got to see them.
While I wasn't at this show, I saw them on this tour in 1982. It was so much fun. I got tickets to see them again in 1983.
Journey Lights/Stay Awhile Live Osaka Japan 1980 is a must 🔥
Ash that's the 1st time that your face just LIT UP IN PURE JOY!! It was wonderful!! ; ) this song takes me back to high school Friday night's riding around town in my Z28 Camero!! We'd put this tape in, ride back & forth in town with the windows down!! Sooo fun....I still have this tape also!! Thank you for the memories guys!!
Thank you so much for reacting to this. I was in high school here in North Carolina (America) when this song first came out in 1981. I remember it well. My girlfriend and I at the time loved attending concerts. It was one of the things we loved doing together. My wife loved concerts as well during that time. My girlfriend at the time and I attended their show in Charlotte on this tour in September 1981. It was great. There were a huge number of wonderful groups at the time and concerts were not very expensive to attend. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Boston, Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Triumph, 38 Special, Foreigner, and many others. I can not describe to you what a wonderful time it was to be young then. We were happier, relationships were closer, life was more carefree, and the music was spectacular. My heart just aches that young people will not get to experience life as we did as teenagers in the 70’s/80’s. Our 4 adult children (29-33) are big fans of 70’s-80’s music like my wife and I are. It’s great, lol. Again, thank you so much for posting this video. It was a wonderful treat.
I get to see them and Toto tomorrow night. Always liked their music. First song that really stuck in my head was Open Arms in the movie Heavy Metal.
Ahh memories ❤❤❤ Journey has such a great catalog of music 🎵❤❤❤
Steve Perry and Freddie Mercury were the greatest singers from mid 70s to maybe mid 80s. Their an iconic band also. Great performance. One of my regrets is that I wasn't at that Escape Tour concert in 81. Steve does one of the most difficult things only a few singers can do, walk around and sing in great manner
One time, a reporter asked Freddy Mercury, "How does it feel to be the best singer on the planet?" Freddy replied, "I don't know. Ask Steve Perry". Two greats, for sure.
I got to see Journey in Atlanta , Ga. twice ! There's a reason why Steve Perry is known as the Voice !!
I was 8 when this came out, and it got a ton of play on MTV. We were spoiled with great music back then. Cheers from the state of Ohio, USA!
Love this song. Nice react. Happy you listened to it. ... I'll check out some of your other stuff. 👍
Yes friends ❤! Thanks for the react to my all-time favourite rock ballad.
Hooked on this one at 13 years young, hearing on the CFRA 580AM top 30 countdown in Ottawa.
You 2 should give a listen to Mother Father by Journey at the same concert . Steve always said that Mother Father is the hardest song he sang . Didn't sound too hard . According to Steve , he sings the whole song in his upper range . The 2 guitar solos during the songs allowed him to have a break . This concert was recorded for their live album and was even aired live on the radio . Back in the days of recording music on cassettes .
Journey is such a legendary band and this shows why. Laughing about the tight jeans
I can't believe you guys haven't heard that song. I guess I'm feeling my age lol I used to hear that all the time on New Years Eve before midnight fireworks at Disneyland in CA. Crowd always went nuts. I didn't like them when the song first came out,, but as I've gotten older, I've grown to really like Journey. He's got an amazing voice. (Recommend Don't Stop Believin')
The only place I know of that this song was used in movies or tv was a short scene in Monsters vs. Aliens where it's being played briefly on the car stereo.
Journey - Don't Stop Believin' (Live 1981: Escape Tour - 2022 HD Remaster)
Check out their song, Stone in Love.
The cartoon you're thinking of is Heavy Metal.
Dad joke:
Q: What do you call a lazy kangaroo?
A: A pouch potato
Iconic voice-Iconic band/perfection!!! Check out “ Open Arms” from this same live concert. AWESOME.
16:26
You're referring to the movie "Heavy Metal," Dave
One of the greats. The guitar and synth combine and complement one another that creates an atmosphere and gives weight to the lyrics. Iconically, Journey.
"They were so desperately trying to end their bloodline with those jeans." 😂😅😂🤣
I remember them being so huge as a young teen growing up in the 80s. My sister had the Escape Album and I thought it had the coolest vinyl cover.
Great reaction. Love your chemistry together. This entire 1981 Houston concert is a banger. Every song is epic and they are at the top of their game. Like you said, they are all true musicians. No auto tune or studio tricks. That is how good they sound live. Their harmonies are amazing. They all can sing and they are all masters of their instruments.
I am obsessed with Steve Perry. There will never be another voice like his.
Saw them in 81 also opening for Stones, Great Voice!
T-shirts like the band wore were very popular at the time in part because we all brought our clothes at the mall.
There were several chain stores in malls like Chess King, Just Shirts, Merry Go Round, etc., and they all sold shirts like these by brands like Chams, Sergio Valente and many others.
Neal schon is a monster guitar player.
Clapton asked him to join Derrek and the Dominos when he was still in high school, but he turned him down because he'd already committed to join Santana on his African tour. He was 16 at the time.
A general surgeon that I work with here north of Houston went to that concert. He lit up when we started talking about it.
The song was in "Monsters vs. Aliens".
Love Ash's evil laugh!!! keep up the quality content. This is music from my teen years and holds some great memories of school dances after football games etc. Good tunes and good times. Cheers! Scott Ritchie
In no particular order Steve Perry, Neal Schon, Ross Valory, Steve Smith and Jonathan Cain! What a friggin lineup.
They aren't wearing tank tops, they are just t-shirt & a vest, which were fashionable within the rock era of the 70s & 80s.
Today we don’t have bands who have incredibly talented people working together. We have solo artists who have nothing but an unemotional sound that is a replicated. Back in the day a great band had drummers and guitarist that people knew because they were an important part of the music.
The voice the best singer all time
Ash and Dave you may like Roy Clark playing Malaguena. Dave you need to watch his playing style. Keep up with the good work 😎👍
Send Her My Love is a great live video! ❤
This song is *firmly* set in the soundtrack of my life!
Thanks!
Open arms. Don’t stop believing. Some many Awsome songs you have to hear
The Guitarist from Santana . . .
Why can't Tyrannosaurus rex clap hands? Because they are extinct! Steve Perry is the GOAT, I saw this concert tour in the NE United States, and was blown away.
My childhood ❤❤❤❤ I was 10 when this came out this was on the radio a lot
When it comes to Journey you don't need suggestions, just do what you want. Anyway you want it is great!
Saw them in May of 1983, they put on an amazing show. Perry’s voice and Neil Schon’s guitar were literal musical perfection. Some relatively unknown blonde guy opened, Bryan Adams. One of the best shows I’ve ever experienced.
i thought that was you at that show what a night.
@@markvanderstelt8999lol, it was quite a show. Row 17 for $15, those were the days.
Steve Perry the best Malé voice ever no doubt about MR STEVE PERRY this group never be the same with out him
The journey Man forever The golden voice legend perry loving people fantastic singer Soo sweet smooth voice already oreginality absolutely amazing the best Mr perry anymore 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Oh, and thank you for doing this!!!! 😁
STEVE IS THE VOICE, NEAL IS GUITAR, AND JONATHAN IS KEYBOARDS. THE VOICE IS WHAT MAKES IT ALL WORK. THEY SOUND SO GOOD TOGETHER. I HAVE LOVED THEM FOREVER.
The renowned and world famous jazz drummer Steve Smith on drums.
@@powbobs SORRY. I HAVE A HARD TIME REMEMBERING NAMES. I SHOULD HAVE REMEMBERED THAT ONE THOUGH. THE FOUR OF THEM MADE ONE HELL OF A GROUP.
Record Executives really wanted to cut Schons guitar solo at the end of this track. Steve really fought to maintain Neil's solo as did the band. Can't imagine this track ending any other way fit radio formatting. Excellent tune.
Dave & Ash get ready for a master singer. Steve has a great vocal range. His top end is unreal. A great tenor as you two are about to hear and see!!! This band was rather good. Wonderful stage presence by all !!!!! Steve retired because it was not fun anymore. And it was exhausting..... Ash you smiled the entire video!!!! For good reason......... I happy you two liked it!!!!
Please 🙏 more Journey live in Houston 1981! Steve Perry is the Best ❤️ Greetings from Tandil, Argentina 🇦🇷🤗
Journey is my all time favorite band
Don't know if it counts as a dad joke, but my late dad used to say it and crack himself up" Guy #1: "How DARE you fart before my wife!!!" Guy #2: "I didn't know it was her turn!!!"
I had the hard talk with my wife the other day, I told her she needs to embrace her mistakes. She looked me in the eyes, said "I'm sorry" and then gave me a hug.
So simple but so heart fealt
Journey was the U2 of the 1970s they had so many hits.
Saw them a dozen times, always a hilight of summers past. Try Wheel In the Sky for another great song, they have many. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
We had great music back then!
Steve Perry is a singer that can play drums, keyboard, and guitar. Versatile man.
I thought Dave was going to say he dated a girl who looked like Steve Perry 😂
Friend of mine's wife delivered their son in a car. I asked him what they named him. He said - Carson
rainy window on a bus
Y'all are way too likeable. Love it.
Don't worry about your interruptions. A big draw of the channel is y'all's banter back and forth.
Keep on r'actin .
Just perfection
Re: tank tops... they're collectors items now, and thus well beyond the price range of normal folks (@Ash...about as far away as North Zimbabwe from the southern point of South Africa...)
I was at this show. Houston native
had a chance to go to this concert but didnt have the cash...bunch of my friends went...wish I had a re-do
I know this might be dating my age but I remember when the song came out
When does a joke become a dad joke....
When it becomes apparent
Steve Perry was my favorite vocalist for years. And then I met Tommy Johansson from Sabaton. He just quit the band to go it alone and I actually think he has a better range. He's from Sweden and is the sweetest person in the world. Check him out. 😊
I know you guys did some SRV, already. For another epic guitar solo, check out Terry Kath and Chicago playing "25 or 6 to 4," live, at Tanglewood circa 1970.
Also, A fact to consider as this gets lost on most fans but Neal Schon really is Journey, founder, lead guitarist, musical director, the only continuous member, as he has carefully crafted their sound through many eras and personnel changes. No doubt the Steve Perry era was best but he soldiered on after Steve left with a series of singers that covered Perry's songs and helped keep the band alive to this very day.
Lastly, don't forget Greg Rollie, Hall of Fame singer/keyboard player from Santana, helped found the band and was their lead vocalist before Steve and did great harmonies with Steve for a few albums before leaving. Those early 3 albums with Greg as primary vocalist are hard rock - prog rock classics, Neal really shows you how great a player he is, those albums are full of bangers for those who want to take a chance. Great stuff, enjoy!
Steve Perry isn't a bitch; he's a perfectionist but he's a mensch. He is the goAT of male rock singers.
Journey is a huge American band. I never understood why they never had much of a impact in Europe.
They were doing stadiums in the US, and when they went to Europe they were booked into tiny little punk clubs where they got spit on, so they didn't go back.
@@nancywyatt821 Interesting, never heard that before. They must have booked into these clubs because they had no fanbase. Did European Radio not play them? Their music might have been considered to "American" for them or something.
@@stuckinarkansas1 Well, maybe their niche was filled by The Scorpions, or maybe it was an incompetent booking agent. When Steve asked him, "Why do they keep spitting on my shoes?" He said that means they like you. The funny thing is, they did, but were afraid to admit it to their friends.
Steve "Jonesy" Jones of the Sex Pistols was a big fan, but was afraid of getting his a$$ kicked if anyone found out.
He told Perry all about it when he interviewed him for Jonesy's Jukebox, and poured out his heart about how he saved his life with his music when he was going cold turkey off heroin and alcohol.
@@nancywyatt821 Great story, you must be a huge fan. Either way, it's too bad for the band and the European fans. I sense Europe would probably be more receptive to them now. Just looked it up, they are Touring Europe this year. Hope it goes well.
I only know of one duck joke. What is a duck's favorite food? ....... Quackers. I know it's a bad joke, but you asked for them.
That was so stupid it cracked me up in a good way 😂. Good one that I’m gonna keep.
The 80s was the Best Decade the Best Music 🎶. 😉👍❤️❤️❤️
No auto tune. Everyone was truly talented.
And 70's
