So many dark things going on in Sid’s house…the implied neglect and/or abuse from the alcoholic father, the neglectful or oblivious mother…The carpet there that mimics the carpet in the Overlook Hotel in Stephen King’s horror classic, “The Shining,” also adds an immediate sense of foreboding. The scene where Buzz accidentally gets knocked out the window was VERY different in the first draft. Woody originally intended to knock him out the window, not off the table. And when questioned about it, he turned on everyone.
When the staff and director saw it, the director called for them to stop and he worked to figure out how to re-work it so that Woody was more likeable. He settled, then, on having Buzz falling out the window be an accident, which still allowed for strife between Buzz and Woody, but also kept Woody as an empathetic character.

  • @islaythejabberwokky
    @islaythejabberwokky 3 місяці тому +29

My theory on why Buzz is *like that* is because he's based on a franchise character with a whole developed story tied to him as opposed to generic dolls or toys that were created solely to be toys. Also, of course, newer toys stick to their intended roles and develop their own unique personalities the more their owners play with them. Woody is an "old family toy" according to Andy's mom, and is very well-loved and played with by Andy, so he's been around long enough to know the deal.

The really interesting part with Sid's toys is that they have no voices. They've given up hope and are in a place where they aren't able to fend for themselves. They're stuck without a voice. Woody is the one who comes along and teaches them to fend for themselves.

Great Reaction, Oscar! It is implied that Sid and Hannah's dad is a hunter and an alcoholic because he is seen in the recliner in the living room with cans strewn around a room with duck wallpaper and a mounted deer head. This (the alcoholic dad) allows Sid some grace for his abuse of the toys and explains how he got so many explosives. We don't see Sid abused, but it is assumed. Each _Toy Story_ (and each one gets better and better!) has dark aspects often missed by kids. And sooooo many naughty puns and comments not understood until the movie watcher is much older. Keep going with Animations!!!!

I think your audience enjoys the animations just fine, don't stop! Your reactions are always wholesome and I enjoy them. I like how you noticed that the toys' personality reflect their role (Buzz acting like a space ranger), but didn't notice the obvious one; Woody acting as the leader of the whole group, because he's a sheriff!
Also, I'm excited to see you watch Stranger Things! It's right up your ally. The first season is more horror, but the later seasons definitely become more wholesome and peak cinema. You'll love all the characters in there.

To be fair to Sid he’s really not an evil person. He’s a kid who needs more attention and support from his parents. He’s high energy and very creative. What is torture from the view of a living toy from Sid’s perspective is creative play. He had no way to know the objects he was given to play with were living beings so his playing at interrogations or doing “surgery” wasn’t malice toward his toys in anyway he was just making things to match his imagination. Yes he sort of picks on his sister and breaks her stuff too but let’s be real here we’ve all messed with our siblings in less than ideal ways growing up.
Also if you watch the rest of the Toy Story series pay attention to the back ground happening there’s often some cool things you can spot that way.

  • @Jumpyman_thegamerYT

Hannah (Sid's sister) seems like the only normal one in the family tbh. Her brother is a psycho; her mum is evidently either oblivious to her son's actions or, she does know and just doesn't care enough about her kids to stop it; her dad, seen very briefly in the living room, asleep in an armchair, is implied to be a drunk (there are loads of empty beer cans strewn around) and is probably abusive. Even the dog was afraid to go into the room where he was, so that explains a lot.

    • @El_Deini

It could also be that Sid's sister is the one that his parents pay attention to and treat well and he gets all the bad things and the abuse, etc. and that's why she is the way she is or it's just her nature too.

The 3rd one came out when I was just starting high school and the 4th came out right after I had my first daughter. It's felt like I've " grown up" with Woody and all of Andy's toys.
Pixar hit a jackpot with the toy story franchise! It's so creative and such unique characters and plots. I love the storyline of 1 but the animation of 3 is unmatched! It's awesome seeing the growth of the animation through the ages .

You hit the nail on the head describing it at 30:09 here. You can see how Toy Story is a blueprint in a lot of ways for most other Pixar movies yet to come. Part of what makes Pixar work so well is that the movies aren't JUST for kids, but have elements that appeal to adults/all ages. It's not just about the silly jokes, but the lessons we all remember from when we were young, or wish we heard.

@ryanking8227 Not really tbh. If you're a stranger in a strange land and suddenly *everyone* freezes, you'd assume it's important to do so too - whether for survival, as Buzz probably thought at first, or later just custom which he would follow out of respect
^That thought occurred to me many years ago, and thus far, I've seen nothing that really contradicts it :P

    • @kirbyyy7230

I imagine it might be that Buzz simply thinks that it's the way to "survive" on the new "unknown planet" he is. Like, the locals all do it, so he decides it's the best thing to do.

He doesn't freeze when he's in the pizza planet truck putting his seatbelt on, and every other time he's around adults he just hides because he also happens to be in a place he's not meant to be in. It seems like he is trying to 'integrate with the culture of the alien planet' and so imitates the custom of freezing in the presence of children, as taught to him by the first creatures he meets (the toys). As for when he is still in the box, he believed he was in hypersleep.

Toy Story is without a doubt one of my favorite CG animated films but also an influential animated film as not only it resulted in Pixar Animation Studios to become a household animation studio in CG animation, but it also was a massive hit when it launched and a gamechanger for animated films in general. This film was clearly the "Snow White" of CG Animated movies. On top of that this film, this came out the same year when I was born: 1995.
Surprisingly enough, I’ve seen a few folks be bothered by the CGI but I wasn't scared/bothered by the CGI for this movie as the CG aged well and it was 1995 when the film came out, so this film and VeggieTales I grew accustomed to CG animation along with 2D Animation, but Stop-Motion films (e.g. Nightmare Before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach, Aardman) that's another story.
Looking forward to your upcoming reactions to the next _Toy Story_ films on the channel, especially the third and fourth film.

Slinky dog was voiced by Jim Varney, who had a series of movies when I was a kid playing “Ernest p worrell”. My gramps (my best friend since birth till his death) and I watched them all the time. So I named my new puppy rimshot, after Ernest’s dog.
You gotta watch “Ernest goes to jail” or “ernest saves Christmas” or “Ernest scared stupid” sometime. They are so endearing. And it’ll make you love slinky even more.

The lamp on the Pixar title screen, which is known as Luxo Jr., was an animated short, as well as Tin Toy, a one man band tin toy soldier having to run from a baby, are just a few things they worked on.

In the introduction to Sid where he strapped the army action figure with an explosive, I'm fairly sure that was an M-80. The popular battery sized firecracker was basically a bundle of flash-powder wrapped up to look and sound like a cartoonish dynamite stick, however in the mid 70s they were outlawed as a dangerous firework and since then require a pyrotechnic license. They were such a well known staple of the 4th of july that there's still fireworks made today with some reference to them.
Entirely forgot about the existential horror in this movie, but the jokes are still just as good as they were back in theaters XD

Oscar, we have to remember that this movie is nearly 30 years old. Of course the animation, and even the story lines are going to improve over time for Pixar. But the story line here was based on tried and true story types. Friends to enemies, knowing your niche in life, all that stuff. We also have to remember that this movie though adults enjoy it just as much was aimed directly at kids. Kids won't psycho-analyse CID like adults will...most kids will just see Cid as mean, and he gets what he deserves, etc. I think this movie was actually media changing , and quite innovative for films when it came out. It also was a hint at just how important Pixar became to the film industry.

I don't hate it but it's one of Pixar's weakest movies, though definitely not the worst (both Cars 2 and Lightyear is way lower). Think that the movie have some flaws, including feeling annoyed that Arlo is afraid of nearly everything at the start and the dad dies at the start feels like a Lion King ripoff. The ending doesn't feel satisfying either as it was a big deal that the family had to store supply for the winter and there's no payoff for that part of the plot. It just Arlo gets, home and gets his print on the silo for coming home after the adventure and that's it.
