      Some competition ones might have. But factory ones do not have it as they do not need it. They have pretty decent inline 6 around 5.7 liters (see wikipedia for models like U1700 435.113). But they are pretty modular with drivetrain and so they are geared a lot + extra gearing in portal axels releases a lot of strain from drivetrain. By default they can cross 1.2m deep water without anything extra. As drivetrain is enclosed and in 4x4 mode pressurized to prevent any leaks and breath-in water issues.

      @@TomSilver_42 That's why I like them portals, lockers, enclosed driveshafts, nothing stands a chance in reliability, look at 3:40 they barely climb or not at all, well, with a fiery V8 they would fly that hill

      @@G55STEYR I agree that for those conditions a bit beefier engine is definitely plus. Yes, hill like at 3:50 where old 406 is trying to climb and failed and even mighty MAN struggled it would be benefit. What limited that 406 I think are tires and with ruts that deep it was probably on the edge of ground clearance limits for those older and smaller portal axels used in 406. Newer, but also heavier and bigger, models like those U1700 / U1300 mods got to the top relatively easy. We should keep in mind that that 406 red unimog is probably built on top of serial car made somewhere around 1960-1970 !! If not modded it would be regular veteran car!

      All Mercedes engines, the 6 cylinders have roughly 5.1 to 5.7 l, depending on the model.

      Seen Pinzgauers on Superkarpata a lot, but rarely on Breslau rally .. probably because of central tube + independent axels and smaller ground clearance in comparison to Unimogs (my guess). Pinzgauers are awesome rigs, no question about that, but I think they are better for a bit different trails than deep ruts where even 8x8 MAN Kats have problems to wade through.
