Before an artist is formally invited, they are asked ahead of time to meet certain criteria. One of them is to agree to a certain number of performances a year. It could be that he's been approached & has (assumedly) politely declined.
This is why George Strait is not a member.

Àfter many years of listening to this song it's the first time I've heard the author actually sing it. If he sang it backwards I still wouldn' t pass judgement on his ability. Shame for such a comment! Ths guy is àn outstanding performer and songwriter, one of the best!
