    It's sad for the man's loss however the PD needs to keep the civilians away from the scene rather than chastising the firefighters trying to do their job.

    For volunteer FF's, it seems to me they did a great job. They got in there right away with a hoseline, and rooftop ventilation was done quickly, releasing a lot of smoke and heat. The only thing I did not like to see was the "Chief" on a ladder using a chainsaw. Why???

    Fire Fighters are only as good as their supervisors managing the fire fighting effort… in this case… management failed.

    With any fire, the initial I.C. should keep the "Rule of Eight" in mind;
    1. Size Up & Call for Help
    2. Make the Rescue
    3.Exposures
    4. Confine the fire
    5. Extinguish the Fire
    6. Ventilation
    7. Salvage
    8. Overhaul
    Getting all these benchmarks achieved will ensure a smooth operation (about as smooth as most fires go LOL)

    We, as viewers of this video, have no clue what took place before the camera started rolling. The water was already flowing on the fire from the inside at the beginning of the video. The only visible fire to the exterior was extinguished with an outside line. The idea that anyone would criticize this department is just your typical armchair youtube warrior BS. The fire was put out pretty quickly. The guy in the video probably owns and/or lives there, so I think it is easy to forgive his anxiety.

      Also, seeing the architectural style, one can estimate the date it was built. It very well might have been balloon framed, which would explain why the fire spread everywhere.
      I can understand the guy too. He's panicked. That very well might be his life and business that just went up in flames... :( (Actually, I'm glad that everyone was patient with him. Too many times I see the police or fire crews scream and yell angrily. That only makes it worse.)

      He has to be a "chief" in name only. A true chief does not get involved in the actual fighting of a fire. His job is to stand aside and take command. He should be directing the job ! Once he takes on the duties of a firefighter he is no longer in charge, gut rather has become one "of the guys" .He is now useless as the Incident commander!

    I feel for the guy, but as an I C,( fire dept has authority here, not PD) I would have told him to step back to the street. At least it's still standing. Having been a volunteer, I can somewhat understand the confusion of getting started. You don't get the practice like paids do. People sometimes don't understand it takes ALOT OF HOURS being a volunteer,training, calls, and classes. Or ask my wife how many times she had to sit at a station, or had to get a ride home from work. Hell, I've been on 18-20 hour calls before. For those of you who are ANTI-TAX ,your paid and volunteers depend on that support....ask your insurance agent. Volunteers today are dying breed.

      In our area, the PD is called for crowd control. Every firefighter has a responsibility and minding the civvies is not one of those.

    1:55 Hole in the roof and the smoke is Still coming out the rake edge unabated. How is the heat from the first floor going to get up there if the smoke in the attic won't even go out the hole?
    3:34 Why is there so much smoke and steam coming out the door? Isn't it supposed to be going out the hole in the roof? Do you think it might have something to do with all the holes in the walls called Windows? A house is Not a Chimney and can't be turned into one Just because you put a hole in the Roof because Heat Rises.

    • @justanotherguy1110
      @justanotherguy1110 5 років тому +1

      You again? Dude, find a different hobby lol. Obviously, smoke is still going to come out of any orifice it can (path of least resistance), it's like water..that's what it does, but if you look where they cut the hole, it is letting a significant amount of hot pressurized smoke out, improving visibility & heat conditions for interior attack crews. That's the point of vertical ventilation. When applied in combination with fire attack, it will drastically improve conditions. Obviously, that's what you want. There's also a thing we've found called flow paths you should probably learn about. Flow paths are constantly changing based on If you actually went interior rather than being a yard statue, or had your FF 1& 2 certifications, or hell even picked up a current FF 1& 2 book, you should know this. You really need to get with the times, a lot has changed since the 60's. Bottom line is, you weren't there, and don't know what was going on & I know for damn sure you couldn't have done any better. So go pack to working on your shitty little car.

      Flash There is Nothing you or any of these other idiots could teach me that is worthwhile about fire fighting as I am a Thinker not a Follower who Just quotes his training manual. I Create it! The smoke coming out that hole was a pressure release from the attic, not heat mysteriously finding a way through ceilings, walls and doors to get to the hole JUST because "Heat Rises. Don't you think that a draft through a hole in the ceiling is going to draw air in from an open window before it draws air from the first floor? I'm surprised YOU didn't bring that up in a comment seeing you are an expert at Flow Paths. Instead, you just attack me because my common sense and logic threatens you just like everyone else. P.S. Let's see what You have built from scratch without directions and someone helping you.

      Flash Read everything you said. You think you are a Mind reader. You must be to be Guessing at who and what I am. I have found when commenters use language like You did, it means they have run out of constructive things to say and have to resort to name calling and Making Stuff Up! Childish and Immature comes to mind.
      The reason you so called Fire Fighters and Wannabees can't teach me anything is because your suggestions are so far away from a Competent Performance, that what you say has no meaning or relavence.
