Mary, I just loved hearing the story of you and Daniel❤. When I was 9, I was in a talent show with a cool and cute 14 year old guitar player. He didn't even notice the freckle faced 4th grader swooning over his worldly rock n roll persona and long blonde hair. We will be married for 41 years this November. I still have freckles but his hair is gone. Lol.
I love this! Thank you for sharing that story. I hope you have photos of this talent show. I wish I could have found photos of Daniel's birthday party!
The only girl invited to the birthday party and still, the only girl ❤ So very sweet. I understand the physical and emotional transition of your in-laws downsizing for them and you and Daniel. Everyone is affected...in many ways. How wonderful for you to get away. I love the shop(s) you visited. They are a dying breed, I'm sorry to say. I'm in the North Shore suburbs of Chicago and frequent one such shop. They still offer elegant complimentary gift wrap. It is my happy place especially for seasonal mood lifts. I laughed out loud when you said "this time we are bringing Daniel". I look forward to that, for sure! Thank you again for an escape to timeless decor and relaxing ventures, Mary!

It is so nice of you to share your life with us, touring Daniel’s parents house, your first memories of his 7th birthday invitation- which started your relationship with Daniel! Amazing! Hello Mary, So happy Daniel's parents are settled into their new home and happy! What a sweet remembrance of Daniels 7th birthday party. I have to tell you whenever Dan pops his head into one of your videos, he makes me chuckle! I look forward to next week's book review and oh yes.....Daniel!! Have a great week and a sincere thank you again! Hugs! :)
Hi Linda, I was so glad to hear that you did alright with the recent hurricanes. Daniel and I both thought of you. And, if I'm not mistaken you have a birthday very soon. I hope it is a great one!!! 🎂 🎉
Dearest Mary, I so enjoyed this week’s feature book on the English Country Home. Of course, I do not live on an estate but my decorating style mimics that of an English Cottage. Delightful! My heart caught in my throat as you spoke of and shared Daniel’s childhood home. Not sure if you’ll ever declutter your minds because our hearts forever hold on to these priceless treasures. So happy you ended the video with your mischievous, impish husband making me trade a tear for a giggle. So look forward to all the two of you explore in the Curiosity Shop next week! Until then…….😊

Hi Mary! Happy to know your in-laws are well. Your long history with Daniel is so heartwarming: loved seeing where Daniel's 7th birthday party was held & imaging you 2 as 7 year olds with party hats, balloons & cake & then seeing you 2 happy on the beach all these years later. Kind of the stuff of fairytales, no?
Hi Mary..I loved this book review with all the rich colors and the puppies were adorable. Your video was fun and Daniel makes me laugh out loud. There must never be a dull moment when he is home and I bet his classes at school can be a hoot at times. I loved the scenes of the water and hearing about your childhood memories of the birthday party, when you were 7. It was meant for you two kindred spirits to one day spend your lives together. xoxo ~ next week!💗💗
I'm glad you enjoyed the book (I did too). I think Daniel and I are kindred spirits. That birthday party stands out in my memory for many reasons. I was looking for the "sugar and spice and everything nice", but only found "snips and snails and puppy dog tails"! 😄

English Country Style, I love 💕 it! I think it’s the no design rules that appeal to me. When a person chooses to add a piece of furniture or a collection of treasures they enjoy into their home it reflects that person’s personality and gives a visitor a peek into their lives. I hate it when a room looks like an advertisement for a furniture display, no personality at all. How sweet that Daniel invited you (the only girl) to his birthday party. 😊 I guess the two of you were just meant to be. I’m glad you were able to get away and enjoy a relaxing weekend together.
You're so right, those English country rooms appear to have evolved over centuries, which enables anyone who wants that look to cobble it together over time, as money permits, and great things, inexpensive or not, are found. Such is the case with my home, which I call neo-Edwardian. Some people seem fascinated, others frightened. It's a hit with guys from Orkin. Thanks for sharing the story of attending Daniel's 7th birthday party in that now empty room. I frequently dream about my grandmother's, and parent's homes, and others. We leave them, but they never leave us. Looking forward to the curiosity shop expedition!
That is so true about how we leave a home, but they never leave us. I have called only a few places "home" in my lifetime, but I can revisit each one with a single thought or memory. I appreciate that you dream of past homes!
Dear sweet Mary, My step grand Father Robert L. Foys Sr. who my grandmother Bess Lee married in the late 1940's after each of their spouses passed away inherited Poplar Grove (formerly Foy plantation) which included 620 acres of land that went to the water way and included a barrier island at the time called woods beach now Figure eight Island. He inherited 80% of the island and another family owned the other 20% which unfortunately was marsh land. In 1945 he sold his portion for fifty thousand dollars which was a lot of money then and eventually the Camerons bought it from someone else and developed it to what it is today. My grandmother had lifetime rights to the manor house and lived there until 1971 to downsize. I have so many fond memories of Poplar Grove and loved my step grandfather dearly. At 38 eight years old grandmother gave most of the original pieces of furniture belonging to the manor house to her stepchildren and filled the home with many beautiful pieces of her own furniture which she lovingly gave most of it to my parents when she closed the house. Sorry another long story!
