I was just a couple months shy of 7 years old, when this aired. I can say, without a doubt, that I probably watched this one like almost ALL the early Red Skelton Shows..........while sitting on my dad's lap. Thank you for posting these precious gems.

Now, this was not Cara Williams's first appearance in color. She was in the 1955 Meet me in las Vegas. This might have been her only appearance for color t.v.This was aired after her show was canceled. C.B.S was thinking of making her another Lucille ball on their station, but she never got big. I think she did a variety show for a while in the '60s too. The last number was repeated in a 1965 red Skelton episode. I saw it a couple of months ago . What made this show rare was that in the 61 -62 season he was using videotape finally, but black in white . This was his first show to be videotaped in color in 61. This was a reissue .His shows would not be fully broadcast in color till 65. In 62 we got our first color .t v. Since I was watching this show when I was a kid each week, I probably saw this. If we had gotten the t.v after Xmas I didn't. I remember seeing perry Como shows before they were transferred on black n white kinescope.

Your reference to Cara Williams was as the Star of PETE AND GLADYS, which ran from 1960 to 1962. Yes, she was groomed to be a new Lucille Ball, which she resisted, wanting to be her own personality, which Co-Star Harry Moran seemed to conclude as being "difficult." Her appearance in the original Red Skelton Special was during the peak of the second season of PETE AND GLADYS, which was gaining popularity in the ratings. The only reason why it was cancelled after two years was because of the return of Lucille Ball in the fall of 1962 with THE LUCY SHOW. Desilu needed a show they owned, and CBS welcomed her back. It was a network decision, which was mutually lucrative.

The Yuletide Doll was first shown in 1961? Then I was 6
when it first aired. And Red Skelton's version "Spectre of the
Rose ", I thought I would NEVER see that again, after more than 30 years - Steve Martin's version on SNL isn't good enough, only Red can do it; it seems it took Cara Williams
passing away to bring all this back ...
