For Hofner's first attempt at bass, this is incredible. It looks amazing, and sounds impeccable. I thought it would be duller sounding, but it has incredible definition plus that epic 500 series tonality.
All the German Hofners have this tone i play mine everyday.......very addictive..........

I just want to say that’s one of the best bass tones I’ve heard!!! The cover itself is great from the timing to the spacing between the groove that allowed every note to breath just like the original. The punchy raw tone however made this song sound so much better making me want a Hofner with flats just for that tone.

Loving that Hofner looks like normal controls and sounds amazing
I have a 1956 Hofner President guitar with the oval control plate like that. If you look closely you can see the controls are labelled on that plate, and if this bass is anything like my Pres, the neck volume is controlled by the uppermost of the four, and the bridge by the one on the right of that, rather than the other way around, as you'd expect!
My President also has two switches to the left of that panel (as you're looking at it), one for each pickup, but this doesn't seem to have any switches at all.

This is an original one and they are quite rare, you can check on the internet from time to time, it's still possible to find one for sale, but they don't show up often, and they can be in good or bad condition depending on how previous owners used them.
@@justmusic9164 what strings are you using? look like TI flats, I use them on my '67. I hate to say it, because i'd like to think I have the best sounding bass ever, but this actually sounds noticeably better. perhaps it's the picking. I never played with a pick, always thought it was uncool, but I think I might try it for the first time in the ten years I have had it. But it could also be the carved top (whole body?). What a cool freakin bass, much better than mine or mccartneys, not just because of the age, but the design is awesome. while i have my doubts that a carved body would sound any better on an electric, just the "feel" of solid wood is inspiring.
Might be the first time I have been jealous of someone's bass in many years.
