Building the ULTIMATE iMac G4

- In today's video I build the ULTIMATE iMac G4, by upgrading it to the max. I bought this iMac at a Goodwill last year and it's taken a whole month of trial and error to get to the right parts to max this thing out.
NOTE
If you are planning to do this yourself, which I don't recommend as I said in the video, and you have a 1Ghz USB 1.0 iMac then you'll want to look for 266Mhz PC2100 RAM. If you have the 1.25Ghz USB 2.0 iMac, then you'll need 333Mhz PC2700 RAM.
I have the 1Ghz USB 1.0 iMac, so I used a 1GB 266Mhz PC2100 desktop stick of RAM on the inside, But I was able to use a 1GB 266Mhz PC2700 stick of laptop RAM in the user accessible slot. I'm not sure why this worked, but it did.
Also, you MUST use non-ECC unregistered RAM, I made the mistake of buying ECC registered RAM on my first attempt, and it did not work.
There is a lot of confusion on what speed and type of RAM you need to use in these iMacs, so that was my simple explanation on what I've found out about these machines.

Thank you for watching!
Just scored one this weekend. Listed in Facebook market place. No details. Took a risk and gave him $40. My friend was traveling to where it was over the weekend, picked it up, and lo and behold, a working 20" for forty bucks. 😎
As others have said, hang onto it for as long as possible. It's a rare collector's item and will only increase in value over time. The 20" inch g4 "ilamp" is one of the most sought after and loved of vintage iMacs. Nice resto project.
that green itunes logo was a lovely nostalgia hit.
totally worth it bro, those are going to be more collectible as time passes. keep it.
Thank you for the video! Liked it after 10 seconds.
Excellent video. An old writer would love to have this machine!
Thank you
That not useless, but Retro cool Modern PC style.
I have a G4 cube with 1.5 GB of Ram booted from and SD adapter located internally. Worth all the trouble keeping the vintage hardware alive.
Keep up the good work! You're going to be huge one day!
Love to see a young guy like you fiddle around with this old piece of hardware. What you do with it? Nothing just let is sit there and enjoy the beautiful design! I upgraded mine with a 512 GB SSD and a bit more RAM but there is just nothing useful that you can do with it.
Thanks. In my opinion old tech is so much better than the new stuff, more fun to work on and tink around with too!
loving the jurassic park font
I would’ve loved to seen a performance test like seeing how well it preformed in the end of the video.
THIS! is what you should do with this iMac in 2024

That High Sierra theme is very tempting
I just bought an iMac G4 17inch yesterday so in love with it mines already been Opened up at some point and had a 1gb stick of ram put into it but only has a 512mb stick in the other compartment I’m wanting to get a 1gb one for it so I can max it out to 2gb
Nice....
Shame you can't upgrade Safari 🤷
Nice video but i paid 40$ for my fully upgraded 17 inch imac g4 1,25ghz with 2gigs of ram and a 240gigs ssd
Nice, that's a really good deal!
Under $100.00 for my g5 17" iMac, Tiger. It had Widgets, which are back, in Sonoma! I love Tiger!
put puppy linux on it
