The chest turned out really well, but it has no character. You removed the painted panels and took away the stenciling. You should have restored them and put them back on.

Doing a narrative is a really nice idea.If you can work yourself up to do it, Other than that, the whole chest was Dry rotted and beyond salvaging.I think you did the best that you could with what you had. Unfortunately a lot of the character that the old rotted chest ad is lost in the new version.

Wow… A charming hand-painted chest with beautiful colors reduced to a non-descript wood box with drab colors… Not a win for me. Sorry. A unique piece of folk art lost forever.

It was a more unique piece with the pictures. Nicely done, but a plain Jane.

it is a sad you could not save the pictures, or find something to replace them. it is a lovely chest but it looks incomplete

Good workmanship, and a very creditable renovation of this piece. Sadly, like many others who have commented here, I believe the destruction of the folk art panels was a huge loss. You're obviously a very good woodworker, and I think this piece will last a long time, but next time, consider existing detail before you expunge it. I would definitely like to see another project from you. I subscribed today.

Well yes a thumbs up for what you did but I wouldn’t class it as a restoration but keep going I’ll be watching for the next one

It is a beautiful job, but how much of the chest is original wood? The base, the front panel? some of the moldings? The video doesn;t make it very clear. It is still a masterful recreation. BRAVO

You have created a beautiful davenport. Also love the way you present yourself (in other words you seemed relaxed, confident and friendly. Are you in connection with other furniture folks? They have a yearly challenge. Anyway, I'm sure you know about them. Love the art 🎨 that you put into this piece.

Your process is interesting and you’re obviously good at woodworking but I would have left the beautiful natural wood on the outside after all the work you did to take it from rough to new. Sealing it or something simple. I think having the frames on the squares in the front is not positive. I would have left the frames off, I would have gotten rid of the curvy parts on the base and instead cut it straight across and square it off at the feet. For the three framed holes I would create one rectangular piece of wood, maybe a different special type of wood that fit over all three holes. It would give the piece a more up to date look. I can see you did a great job overall. One more suggestion, you showed a little too much time doing domino holes and why you used the track saw then the table saw I don’t understand. Maybe due to space? Thank you for the show and for asking for feedback.

This is not a restoration. you just made a brand new chest by using the woods of a wonderful hand decorated old chest. Sorry but I even didn't like the new thing. An ordinary bad coloured wooden box.

Thank you for your content, I thoroughly enjoyed it! I apologize for all the negative Nancy’s that came with their unsolicited opinions. A lot of people made comments about the floral design in the beginning and how they didn’t like the piece without it. I guess they never considered that you might not have the machine to make that restoration. I say all of that to say, I hope you have a wish list and for those that have something to say will surprise you with that tool. I love solutions, not negative opinions. Furthermore, change is what makes the world go round!
