Not only an amazing artist, Jon Hopkins is a wonderful man. A year ago I wrote to him how much his music helped me in time when I divorced.. especially when I was returning my daughters to my ex.. I was driving listening to his Immunity album and many times I had tears in my eyes. Well, he replied to me saying that he is thankful for my words and the impact his music had on me.. Not many would do something like that. He is someone with a deep heart and soul, and that is obvious in his music.
This music video is all feeling, all flow, all sensory, all coherence, no commercialism, no frills, no exaggeration, no false motives. So pure it grows on you.
The look on that young man's face is something I recognize all too well, or atleast, they picked an amazing actor the face of living life to the fullest, enjoying it, just being in the zone. Being happy. Being in the moment. Being thankful. Enjoying right now to the fullest, and realizing it in the moment with a smile on your face. Man, I can't wait to try LSD again. It gives me all those feelings sober. The first time I watched this was during a trip, and it had me completely zoned in studying every detail. One thing I remember clearly is thinking "he's feeling the same thing I am.. Incredibly Lucky."
the beginning of the video... where the skateboarder appears out of nowhere jumping over the fence and skates into the jon hopkins grooves…phenomenal. one of the best video + music syncs ever.
Such a fresh perspective on electronic music. The song moves seamlessly from Eno-esque ambience to a colossal techno beast. Hopkins has produced perhaps the most subtle yet forceful pieces of music I have heard in years.
I don't normally go in for quotes but watching this video with that music I finally truly understood Picaso's quote 'We all know art is not truth. Art is a lie that makes us realise the truth.'
I discovered this tune back in 2014. It had a massive impact on me. I kept it on replay for days and weeks, and my taste in music has changed ever since. This tune has really shaped who I am now!
Saw him live in Edinburgh a few weeks before lockdown started, and it made up for everything else I'm going to miss this year. Genuinely the best gig I've been to, split perfectly in half between his ambient piano and tunes like this and Emerald Rush. For half the set the audience sat in enraptured silence listening to his piano. and for the other half the whole of the Usher Hall was stood up, raving. Never seen a gig like it: it was the perfect way to end my second year at uni before corona hit, so grateful.
To me this song more than any other I can think of, is as if ecstasy was in music format... The peaks and troughs but also the ambience, sheeeeet it may as well be circa 2000...wild and very well done.
Until about 10 years ago I worked as a bartender in a pub. Even today the patrons tell me that they came to my club for the quality of the music. Of course, Immunity was one of the most played albums.
it's amazing how you can hear so many things in one song. how it can incite so many feelings. i see and hear freedom and liberation with the video alongside. but then i return and there's an edginess, and a solitude, even sorrow. the genius that is jon hopkins
Why do I keep coming back to this over and over and over again ......... ????????? Because it's such a fantastic song .. all the ups and downs ... love it.
This track was always suggested to me on UA-cam and somewhere I never found the first few seconds good enough to keep listening. Until I thought that there must be a reason why the track keeps coming up. So I gave it a chance and listened to it several times. It gets better with each listen! I love this masterpiece!
just showed this to my father. He really liked and said to me: " the landscapes of thi video looks like the ambiences of the track, and the melodie/bassline of the track represent the kid" :) ...
this is one of those songs that the music video highly enhances ... i heard this song once before seeing the video and kinda liked it, but after hearing it and seeing this kid just go on and on on, i dunno something about it made me appreciate the song so much more. if you see me on the madrid metro listening to music with my eyes closed it's probably this song i'm listening to.
This is soo amazing. That main bass that seems to change and do unexpected things and the ambient sound that surrounds it.... This amazing feel you get from it... Jon Hopkins is a true crafts men at what he makes and I give him all my respect
I discovered Jon Hopkins only a few weeks ago. This was after two years of not listening to any music at all, or films for that matter. It all reminded me too much of a world left behind due to Covid. This is the most beautiful, uniquely original music I have heard in years, and it inspires me to start listening and watching again in a world anew, with future possibilities beyond the present existential threats we are all facing. Jon Hopkins, I cannot thank you enough.
These songs give me a similar vibe. Enjoy :D Matthew Herbert - It's Only (DJ Koze Remix) Maceo Plex & Gabriel Ananda - Solitary Daze Nox Vahn & Marsh - Come Together Lazy Weekend (Soty & Seven24 Remix) Bonobo - Linked Orbital - Halcyon On and On
I've heard this song long time ago (3-4 years back) on one of the John Digweed's sets... maybe even on Proton show. Then I've searched for the song on yt cause I loved it very much... as time past on I forgot the name of the song and now almost 3-4 years later I'm re-united with this masterpiece.
I was yesterday at Jon Hopkins' concert in Brussels, at the Ancienne Belgique. It was freaking amazing. He only played for an hour or so, but it felt like ten seconds and ten hours at the same time. His music is mesmerizing.
Looked up Jon Hopkins because someone mentioned to see Chris Chann in the first video I clicked. WHAT THE HELL MAN Chris is top five of my favorite skaters, he's a pretty inspirational guy.
This so reminds me of a DJ friend from 20 years ago. Long and lanky, and like that he would flip and spin his skateboard and just ride it through the abandoned city centre on Sundays. He would have liked this song too especially the part at the end with the warped sounds like his TR-505. Hey Ben, wherever you are, hope you're happy, thanks for introducing me to IDM.
I love listening to this while driving electric scooter through a night city. This track's got the right energy for rolling, not in a car nor a motorcycle, but something like scooter or skateboard/longboard - maybe because of the skater boy in this video.
I had a shitty exam today and on my way home I listened to this, It gave me the feeling of moving on and never to look back. That what it meant to me at least today. Great tune indeed.
someone dropped this tune around the 6 min mark at a darns a few days ago, the sound system was ratting the floor and ive never seen so many people lose their shit and get a stomp on!!! so glad ive heard the full tune now and its got a killer video to match
Have loved this song for years, 'been freakin watchin Chris Chann's vlogs for weeks now, So trippy when the two come together like some sort of scavenger hunt
This fills the 8 minute drive from my house to Sainsbury's perfectly, a bit anticlimactic as it ends all I have to look forward to is buying a loaf of bread & 6 pints of milk though.
i have never ran from my problems... i just skated over them... thanks to Burnside skatepark in Oregon, west coast dj's like Spun , moonpup, pasta and PDX's DJ Kepi , jfunk, Timmysan and ll my bros that sk8 and create... thank you for saving my life daily
As someone who used to skate and ride my bike intensely and purposely to express myself in activity with music, this video perfectly summarizes the vibe ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
When I tried to share this on FB I received a message that it had been blocked because other viewers reported that it had content that was considered abusive. The only things I could think of that elicit that type of response is the skateboarder skating through the toxic smoke of the burning tire, or the later simulation of someone on fire. I suspect that the real motivation for such reports is that it's portrayal of social decline is too real for bourgeoisie tastes.
this video clip immediately made the history of cinema ... and now that time has passed, it is confirmed as a masterpiece ... a good director does not create images for music but makes music and images perfect for each other.
Jon Hopkins opened with an arrangement of this in yesterday's Brighton gig. He edited the video to be a little more trippy, and it was a hugely cathartic way to open a banger of a concert.
I'm 61 now and keep coming back here to make sure people are still listening to proper music ..they are🙏
Go on checking, 52 here. =)
Ha Ha that's a crack up I was thinking I was old and alone at 57 listening to great music but I'm surrounded by other geriatric legends
lol ur mom is 61

this song is an antidote

well put, just came back to this after yrs of not hearing it, it sounds even better, I feel the video more now, its a flow of lushness
Every once in a while, I forget about that song for a few months. Then I rediscover it, and I'm having a blast again. Simply amazing.
You should check out the remastered version, it will blow you away. Sounds so much better even
Me right now, followed by Collider

One of the best things I've ever heard. Electronic music at its best.
Absolutely. A masterpiece
the beginning of the video... where the skateboarder appears out of nowhere jumping over the fence and skates into the jon hopkins grooves…phenomenal. one of the best video + music syncs ever.
One of those very tracks you never get tired of listening to
I know, I feel like this beat is like a permanent part of my life. And the skateboarder with the bruised face just going and going is so beautiful.
10 years old. Timeless.
I still find myself coming back to it
@@SuperOMGFTWBBQ And me too. It's on the Immunity LP [WIGLP298]
Best track of the last decade for me
Oh yeah! This is transcendent
the silhouette of him against the backdrop of palm trees and pink sky is beautiful stuff. absolute classic tune.
It's like being water...flowing ...life in front and behind... but the present soo present.. wonderful!!
Such a fresh perspective on electronic music. The song moves seamlessly from Eno-esque ambience to a colossal techno beast. Hopkins has produced perhaps the most subtle yet forceful pieces of music I have heard in years.

this song is timeless , 5 years since i discovered this one and still never gets old

Nope
Not remotely...but would love some suggestions. Anybody?

Bassline of the decade ! constantly evolves, climbs, continues on and on and on .... massive !
it's fun to badddooowapppppa dooop along with it (when no one is watching)
korg ms 20
Not MS-20.
Stunning beat there guys
its a MS20 - he used it for the whole album for the basslines
The snare is love, the snare is life.
Noticed how the first kicks that the skater do are in sinc with the beat
Listened to it once on LSD and my body can even remember how strong was the feeling. Beautiful song, so powerful ! 😌🙏🏽
This song SLAPS forever.
This and colider is out of this world, amazing this is art of music
amazing. gives hope to electronic music n sound...
His remix of Disclosure - Magnets is sick aswell
This song feels like the world pushing against itself. Loved it a decade ago. Still love it.
This is one of my favourite clips and songs of all time. It's really subtle, but super powerful at the same time!
9 years later and I still play this video all the time. timeless

A quick skate around Tahoe is always a great way to clear the mind when there's trouble at home.
Damn, big fan of skateboarding here and just discovered Jon like 2 months ago. Can't believe Chris Chann did a video for this song. Best of both world
