Wait really? This was definitely a thing for me growing up in Canada. Maybe it's just kids that had their lunch freeze in the winter. It didn't make shards, it made more like small bits that melted into a gelatinous whole.

It's been so long since I've had one, I forgot that you can color your tongue with those. Every time I would buy one, it would be so melted I had to just scrape it off the plastic wrapper with my teeth.

Meh, teeth issues truly are more genetics than anything. I've never had a cavity, but ate tons of candy and sweets as a child without brushing my teeth barely at all. Compare that to both my brother and sister who've had a cavity in almost every tooth despite brushing with special prescription toothpaste and flossing twice a day. I eat better today and brush/use mouthwash much more, but its still not close to enough to explain my perfect tooth health. Besides, it takes months or years of bad habit to wear down a healthy enamel layer from just sweets...

Overall, it's just a collection of chemicals found in several fruits put together to make a frankenflavor, and colored it blue because there is a good food safe blue dye and all of the other colors were taken. Like we need another red colored candy, right? Cherry, strawberry, apple, watermelon...
Fun fact, these things are mostly dried applesauce. If you have a food dehydrator you can make your own homemade, though it'll be just apple flavored unless you add like fruit juice or something to flavor it.

Lol one of the snacks from childhood, that I also stopped eating after it pulled out a filling of mine from one of my teeth. Luckily that was a baby tooth, don't honestly remember if I had to go to the dentist to get it pulled or if I ended up with like a cap crown type thing till it had to come out. Haven't touched one since, or any old kid snacks, outside of granola bars but those are like everyone snacks really.
