I must have missed this back in the day but saw a flashback yesterday. Awesome performance and good for her. The thing with bowling is there is no defense; literally. All you can do is bowl your best game; mentally, physically, and against the lane conditions. Revs, ball-speed, and board movement mean nothing without accuracy and consistency. You'll get some lucky breaks sometimes and some unlucky ones. They come at the worst and most unexpected times. You can shoot 240+ and still lose if/when your opponent is hot. That's 2-3 spares and no open frames in a game otherwise filled with all strikes by you, but you still lose; there's just nothing you can do but watch your opponent move on, where they'll sometimes bowl a 180 game the very next game against their next opponent. Such is the game of bowling. Much respect to Kulick.
To those who say she shouldnt have been allowed in this tournament? I dont see the word " man" in PBA. She plowed her way through all those games just like any other professional bowler. Good for you, Kelly!
mike m while I’d normally agree with you when it comes to bowling I don’t see why a woman shouldn’t be able to compete it’s not football. It’s the same patterns, adjust, move right, change balls
@@agoo7581 Obviously you are basically a libtarded caveman type unworthy of attention from even the lowest forms of life. I just need to make you aware since you are too drugged to know it.
It's not about rev rates, it's about form and accuracy. Earl Anthony didn't have a high rev rate...nor Dick Weber, nor Don Carter. I know those are names from the past. But you don't have to have thousands of revolutions to put 10 pins in the pit. Kelly just proved it. Her form was fluid and flawless. Awesome job.
Lol at 2:36 "Not Dead, yet!" I like Chris though, he is probably one of the most vocal bowlers when he's on T.V. I was rolling on the floor laughing Sunday when he called out Angelo on his Brooklyn Strike.
It really blows that this video does not have 100,000 views. One of the greatest female accomplishments in in the past 30 years, and no one really cares.:(
My friend and I were actually in Vegas the year before this waiting in the Hertz Rental Car line and she was in front of us. We started talking to her since we were waiting so long and found out she was there for a bowling competition. We didn't know at the time she was this good. I was just flipping through the channels the year after and caught this match and texted my friend. We were both like WTF!!!
people who say this is luck is wrong...im on my schools varsity bowling team and what one of the girls does is like a friggin miracle...im only a 9th grader but cuz of my dad ik wut im talkin bout...this girl on my team thorws this horrible wierd top spin, calls it a curve, throws it anywere near and barly touching the head pin and she gets a strike! she never gets a split when she hits the head pin DEAD ON and gets all these 180's! now in this vid right here thats no luck that is skill
Oh, I am not doubting that. But she won the Queens in order to have a birth into the Tournament of Champions, whereas I feel it should be only PBA Titlest in the tournament just as I feel there should be no titlest in any non-titlst event. (I believe only the regionals hold these type of events currently)
@bepeters I must admit, I haven't watched much bowling since the days of the old Pro Bowlers Tour on ABC, which I rarely missed. I never know what day or time the ESPN bowling broadcast is on. Those telecasts are not the same. Something's missing. The old PBT was just done so well. There was one ESPN broadcast from Chattanooga, TN where a guy whose name escapes me was going for 300. The crowd was still whoopin and cheering as he was about to throw his final shot. How freakin' stupid.
My question is and its nothing against Kelly but how did she get into the PBA tournament of Champions if this was her first PBA win? I will have to ask her the next time I see her. Kelly is a class act in the game of bowling.
In an interview, she said that she was coached in the Dick Ritger camp since she was 12. Well, she sure isn't kidding, because her style is a doppelganger to Dick Ritger's.
HAHA, I just have to laugh at a lot of these ridiculous comments on this video... goodness. This wasn't a run-of-the-mill weekend tournament, this was a 48-gamer against the best of the best, and you can't deny Kelly Kulick was definitely the best of the best that week; I don't think many people, male or female, can shoot back-to-back 270s just to make it to TV with that pressure. League bowlers... I tell you, they can make some ridiculous comments about the professionals. Hah.
@20alphabet Just like in the NFL...on any given Sunday...I am a bowler...I average 183...my boyfriend averages 206. I have beat him on several occasions...yes, he beats me more often that I beat him but I do have my moments...and this was Kelly's moment...don't take that moment away from her because you're upset. She earned it!!!
I sure would not want to bowl against Kelly! She would whoop me but good. But you people comparing pool to bowling - no comparison. Pool requires very little (if any) physical strength and bowling does. If you don't think it does you are not a bowler. There are varying ball weights (going up to 16 pounds) that have to be lifted and thrown properly with the right loft. This requires hand and arm strenght as well as body coordination.
@jdurnhofer well i cant agree with you because that means that the only reason why people get pin carry and strikes is because of superhuman accuracy? And the choices i had were too convienient? what does that even mean? the fact that i mentioned them was because it was true and they fit the description of what i was calling a succesful low rev player. How about the others like Michael Haugen? Mike scroggins? Brian Voss? more succesful players that make tv shows with low rev rates.
Anyone catch Pedersen's comment at 4:14 ? Let it GO, Randy! The only way this could have been a better story would be if Chris' wife Lynda had beaten him.
I agree she did not belong in that tournament hence the name PBA Tournament of Champions and she was titleless... But I would never strip her of this amazing perforce that could be one of the best games ever thrown on tv given the pressure and history on her back.
It actually makes a lot of sense. The players you used as a comparison are too convenient. Norm Duke, Earl Anthony and WRW relied on superhuman accuracy. Between that or power play, I chose accuracy any day. But your average PBA bowler can make up for that with higher margin of error with angle and rev rates, thus the 400+ avg RPM on the mens tour. Kelly is awesome, but she is not WRW (at least not yet) and doesn't have the rev rate either, hence her comment. She has her facts right.
She had no choice but to win eventually, she's been consistently trying for about the last 6 years, especially since the PWBA flopped. And the sad thing is 95% of the people who watch sports still doesnt know her.
This is one of those things where nobody wants to be the one to lose to her and be the one she defeated to become the first women PBA champion. Yeah, everybody is happy she won nobody just wants to be the one she defeats in the championship. It would be better if you lost to her in the semifinals or in qualifying, than to lose in the championship. Because of all the guys she beat out to get there, Chris Barnes will always be the one associated with this defeat.
You know, it makes me think people who say she got lucky, dont know bowling at all. Sure, considering you can leave an 8 pin or a 10 pin, she got lucky that she never got tapped, but hitting the pocket EVERY single shot, has nothing to do with luck, it has everything to do with skill. She won because she deserved to win, not because she got lucky.
Actually it's easier for women to beat men in pool than in bowling. It's harder to do it in bowling....kulick is one of the very very few who can do this and won against the men. Women can't get lucky and win in pro bowling agains men, they have to be extremely good to win. Kulick is bowling extremely good here that's why she won.
But then she goes on to say that the reason why she hadnt been on tv while shes been exempt for this year and last was because of her low rev rate and she didnt have the pin cary the men do. WTF? how can she say that when some of the best players in PBA history are also the ones with very low rev rates. For example norm duke, earl anthony, WALTER RAY?! i mean come on she obviously needs to get her facts straight.
Kelly could be annoying. She has a very low rev rate. But well, at this level, mental game is more important than the rev rate. And on this plane, she literally destroyed Chris, at least in this match.
@chuckbrigham Hahaha!! Did you hear her mom's voice when she said that? She sounds like Marge Simpson's sisters. I guess by now she's too old to quit smoking...

When and why did they allow a female to be in a PBA tournament?? She may be a good bowler but why isn't she bowling with the females? In this case why can't a male bowler enter the ladies tournaments and make more money then bowling on the mens side.
Great job by Kulick; however, a little humility would have been nice. Muttering how she was making history during her final shot; then picking up the trophy and calling out "girl power" like it's some kind of feminist statement. Kelly, there's protocol for these things. You're PRESENTED the trophy by the tournament people. That's how it works. There were great female bowlers before you that weren't given this opportunity. Hopefully, Kelly will conduct herself with more class next time.
@@agoo7581 At the time of this post, I had not realized that it had become commonplace for the victor to walk over to the trophy and pick it up. What a great video to watch. Thanks for sharing! Here's to hoping we see here again on the telecast!

Kelly made it look soooo easy. Wish I could have been there to give her a victory hug.

there goes our way of life! soon they'll be taking over the NBA, NFL, NHL. Way to go Barnes for showing them they can!
