Chad, from a KY 4plate that sit countless days watching my horses and standing up and stepping onto one of my favorite horses back to go across the field. It could have been the wood dad got but we had to wait 1 year before a year until we made it black. I don’t have a clue what it was but it was tary type black stuff. You’ll NEVER regret making a fence like that. I did a lot of talking to Jesus sitting on ours and also just sitting there with not a worry in the world watch the livestock. I love to see your chapters of your book unfold. Keep up the good work~Donna
I love the idea of the fence you are gonna put in & a unanimous decision on the holding pen by all of the cows & Tater says go for it buddy .. We love watching anything to do with the farm & all of the livestock, it beats housework hands down.. LOL Glory will surprise you shortly with a calf or 2, she is big..

I was 🤣 at Maximus playing in the hay. It's so funny when they do that with the bales. Can't wait to see what you do with that space. I know how you all like to be close to your animals. Hope you grow a garden too. Nothing like fresh veggies that you've grown. So much better than store bought. Even though you don't like a lot of veggies. LOL! I caught another You Tuber, and they have a hay barn like covering, I don't remember how many bails of hay it holds, similar to yours. Also, It makes it easier for them in bad weather and they don't get moldy. I know you have many things in the planning. I'm excited for you and your family. What a dream come true. Chad, Doss Farms....you have some nice straight trees. Why clear and doze just to pile and burn? We called a logger and gave him first shot. We tagged trees we didn't want cut. We made $20k on our 105 acres. Then we hired the dozer. Think about it.
And with a logger they have a wood chipper that makes compost for your grass
It was logged before we bought it
Trees may have grown to size since then....maybe 🤔
We bought it six months ago….

For what it's worth, my opinion is that it is too soon to make a dozer decision. As you said, the cattle are doing a wonderful job. Plus you are still making decisions on where you want to put stuff. I understand there is a cost involved regarding hiring, but if you can wait for a full year in the property, that, to me, would be ideal. Whatever you decide, I shall enjoy watching the Chad How Too guide. Xx

Chad, if it were my place (which it isn't) I'd clear the perimeter and where I wanted fence lines, but I wouldn't doze a lot of land. You can always take more later, but you can't put it back. And it's so pretty. The cattle will clear everything up to 6ish feet and you'll be able to see them. I like the idea of the 4-rail Kentucky fence as you described it's location and design. As always, my love and prayers to all the Doss family. And I say Amen!

Sounds good with the fence, I suggest you at least mirror the 2 gates on your path so you can arrainge the 4 gates in different patterns so you can send the cows from any of the 4 fields into any of the other 4 fields. Then you could make the alleyway from the house to the 4 way gates a working area with the arrowquip installed along one side of the path.

I think you should do a video on the possible number of calves due next year. Maybe? Yes?
It's not just about you seeing your cows - we learned in th 20 acres that they like to feel part of the family, that they like to be able to see you, to chill out close by - and mostly they are far more friendly when they know they live with you, not just as cows in the woods.
Love the idea of the rail to the fence that you can sit on and chat with them. I also agree that having a well mown area between the woods and the chickens makes a huge difference to the predator load - even you dad is catching stuff worming its way into the poultry palace from the woods close by.
a nice grass area to hang out, that the boys can have RC vehicles perhaps, or just play ball, that's a Vista from the back porch family space - sounds great to me - you might even have a few raised beds like your dad! If it's fenced off, you can let the chickens visit to eat all the bugs some days
I love all of it, and that you have enough acres to keep lots of trees, and have the best of both worlds. Hugely grateful that you share it all with us

Thank you. I had to put my chickens behind Premier 1 fencing and keep it hot. I’m down to 3 chickens cause I let the fence get grounded out. Have taken care of that problem now. Glad you are getting more chickens. They are fun to watch.
I would screen I the back porch. Then you could sit out at night .
