Hey LLYT, great bucket chuck. Got some good distance. Have you ever experimented with a DIY heat exchanger? I also live in a colder climate and water from my well comes out fairly cold. I have discus and they might not be as hardy as your turtles. I get nervous doing a 20% water change and the dramatic temperature drop. Fun fact: I just found out that turtles being hardy is NOT because of their shells.
Thank you for sharing so many good ideas from your videos! I didn’t upgrade from using buckets soon enough, and now I cant imagine going back to that method. Even with just a 40g and a tiny turtle you definitely want to be using a hose/pump or a syphon kit that hooks up to a faucet!!
I've been using a pond pump since I moved my tank downstairs. It's not submersible; it is a hose in the tank and a hose out the window (so, 2). It makes water changes for two 75s and a 10 take less than half an hour, usually.
Thanks for the video, this is awesome! Question, when do I need to add water conditioner? Do I add it to the tank before I fill up or after? Just want to make sure turtle and fish friends are safe while I’m doing this. I am used to adding the conditioner in the bucket before pouring into my tank. Thanks in advance!
Just saw that no one had offered any advice… so my tip is to get a water filter for your hose/tap that you refill from, the water conditioners can be tricky and toxic if you miss calculate. Whereas an inline filter (like used in motorhomes, campervans, tiny houses etc) are much easier and more economical for us BUT essentially, non tonic for your turts. Relatively cheap, easily available and so much healthier 😊❤ LLYT 🎉
Switching to your system, but I'm lucky to have a laundry room floor drain in the next room and a shower super close. Not in a hurry so no need for a pump.
