All the souls of Chinese slave laborers who mined the Chinesium metal to make that horn haunt it and cause the valves to get gunked up. You need to send it to a Tibetan monastery that doubles as a brass repair shop to have it exorcised.
What surprises me is how fluent you speak for the video. I once made a video and I could barely stay on topic and keep talking, but you looked like a natural. Awesome video!
Carter W i make vids too, my solution is to know what i want to say. If its a lot, i write it down, if its only a bit, i just do practice runs or a take or two.
Frelude, by Fach, made of a frownium based alloy, tuned to the key of Major disappointment.
Lol nothing like some good chinesium metal
TruDood Straight from the local shenzen market.
TruDood. I did Laugh Out Loud
I loved his Chinesium. Metals should end in IUM. Sodium, Calcium, Magnesium, potassium, uranium, plutonium, chromium, platinum (nearly) Berylium, Polonium, Belgium (er No!) Magnesium, but why Helium, Tritium and Deuterium, non metals? Why have Zinc, Copper Iron, lead etc been left out of the party except in Latin?
Nil Illigitimus Carbarundum!
Don't let the bastards grind you down!
Remember. A French horn is an ill-wind that nobody blows good!
Sir Malcolm Sargent said "Never look at the trombone section! It only encourages them"
Trumpeter, given his parts with some very high notes, says that he wants a male nurse on stand-by from bar 80 to 120.
Conductor .."Why? That's well within your range!"
Trumpeter: Well maybe but I need somebody to push my piles back to let me play without stopping!
@@MauriatOttolink WHAT DOES THIS MEAN
@@MauriatOttolink what
The chinesium, the dreaded chinesium xD
Three years later, this video came in handy as I’ve just found this very same instrument being advertised on Ali express and I wanted to find a review before I considered purchasing. Thank you for your video, it helped me to instead save toward a more quality flugelhorn.
Trent could you do some more videos like your bass trombone in a brass band videos?
Got myself this one a few months ago and played it today. It isn't the worst but it is more like a student flugelhorn than a professional kind of flugelhorn.
Good enough for year one?
Nice video you're. My favorite UA-camr. Ever. 👍🏻
Nice to know that I am not the only one that feels the temptation of buying cheap. I, however, try very hard to avoid having to do repairs out of the box. My flughel is kind of cheap (made in the east i suspect), but the only issue so far is the noticable black residue that remains in the piston oil after each use. It is not as cheap as yours though.
The panning at the start of the video never fails to make me feel nausea.
The power of music.
I agree xD
What's a "whirlygig"?
Do you use petroleum based oil, or synthetic?
my ytr 6335g is also made in China its says on the Box made in China not Taiwan Indonesia but China so its a chinese trumpet
The valves seizing up is probably caused by the bizarro metal they are made from, and its reaction to the Chinesium metal of the valve casings. Back in high school (decades ago), I had a Schilke "student line" trumpet, which was mass-assembled from surplus Yamaha parts. No matter how well cleaned it was, if it sat idle for a day or more, the valves would stick. Of course, my band directors would always say "Clean your horn!" Only recently, did I run across an article about these cheap "Schilke-ish" horns, and the Fourth World materials from which they were made.
I bought one of those in a pawn shop, thought I was getting a great deal. Then I discovered the pitting and spalling of the pistons. I quickly found the information on the Schilkaha horns and how Yamaha's great idea for piston material turned to crap. I don't pay much trumpet and I keep it lubed with synthetic oil. It sounds great but it would be hell as a daily horn for someone who plays a lot. I suppose one could find replacement pistons made from high quality stainless but price would be way up there.
I don't know about the Ali Express horns but clearly not all cheap flugels are created equal. My experience with inexpensive - under $300 - Chinese flugels off Ebay has been fine. Valves on mine work great - quick and smooth, no seize up issue like you're describing. Sound is fine - you need the 3rd valve trigger on low D and C# but that's what it's there for. With the right mp you can get a nice fluffy, dark flugel sound. Would have no problem whatsoever playing a gig with the ones I've tried.
which did you get...by whom?
My cheap LAFAYETTE is serving fine for year one flugelhorn learning. Just accept that the cheap imports from PRC are just introductory.
I know you've made a lot of videos on bad (or worse) traditional valveless bugles, but I'd like to see a review on a decent one - I'm trying to find one and have no idea where to start
Great video. Was it raining when you made this video?
I've bought a Jean Paul beginner trumpet and the valves stick a little (it only takes some minor actuation strength to get them unstuck) if left alone for a few days as well. Do you think I should get it returned?
Natusake lol hell yes. Get an olds ambassador for like 100 bucks and you will have a solid trumpet and a little bit of dough left over to buy some private lessons
Love your videos.
Well i got a real prelude flugelhorn and i basiclly had the exact same problems
i play trumpet, and i am considering switching to french horn. can you make a video about this? Thanks
He made a a French horn video, in which he briefly. explained how he went about learning French horn,it might help.
Paul PGAS the French horn is a great instrument with a lot of techniques that you can't find in other brass instruments so I'd recommend it. The best feature is its range which is huge.
If heard this. Thanks
Ive*
I'm aslo a trumpet player, and recently (december) started learning the french horn. Let me know if you have any questions, maybe I can help.
At 4:51, he calls it a trumpet.
TRENT HAMILTON EXPOSED
Many beginner/amateur euphos have valve problems. I'd imagine tubas do too but I'm not sure.
they do, especially rotary valve tubas
I suspect the valve sticking problem is due to poor plating quality of the pistons and sleeves. I'm sure the metal burrs didn't help the plating either.
This has probably been asked a million times so I apologize but what is the outro piece after every video?
Could anybody tell me what is the name of the piece he is playing at the beginning of the video? I do not remember it.
Thank you
Did you contact the seller on alieexpress? Many will try to make things right, as the platform is important to them and they dont want bad reviews. Even at Chinesium grade, the thing should work a bit out of the box... i have had replacements sent out after receiving broken items, albeit those were very cheap toys...
Hi, about 6 months ago I bought a würzburg flugelhorn for $25 at a second hand store mostly for fun however my band director suggested I march said flugelhorn for marching band and let me tell you is it not so great anyway from what I've gathered it is an ebay horn from somewhere in between '06-'08 but can anyone else tell me about it?
If you want cheap instruments that are great Mack Brass and Wessex Tuba are great in terms of price
can u do a video reviewing ALL of your instruments
Jeff The Meme Slayer He made a video essentially saying he wouldn't
I have a fake bach trumpet, and its really awesome
When someone says an instrument is fun, that's another word for crap.
Omg trent I just realized you almost look exactly like my elementary band instructor 😂
Elementary school band doesn't deserve to exist
5th grade at earliest my school starts it at 6th grade
Anyone have any info on the Eastar Flugelhorn from Amazon?
what is the name of that song that you played in the beginning of the video on the flugelhorn???
Jesu Joy Of Man's Desiring
I want so many different brass instruments, but being a sophomore limits my resources, I've had several trumpets which have came through me and I've modified in some way or another but nothing like that wall😂
Hey trent it's raining
What's the outro music called?
IMO the best cheap flugelhorn is the Austin Custom Brass flugeluorn
TheDalmah true! Their cheap stuff is pretty good
The doubler is the best, but define "cheap". It's still $600, but for a flugel that's considered cheap.
Do you have lapped the valves or?
anyone know the link to were I can buy it?
on the topic of cheap, have you tried any of the 'west point' branded instruments selling on trademe and do you have an opinion on them... worth a gamble for some cheap fun?
Yes, in my video where I drive over a trumpet, that's a Westpoint trumpet. If you want to spend the money then go for it, but I wouldn't.
Thanks, suspected that might be the case. Was being tempted by a $300 tenor horn but maybe not then.
Isn’t your piccolo trumpet made by Westpoint? I suspect that’s a fairly good indicator as to why you shouldn’t buy from them
its raining Trent
Try the Thoman Flugelhorn from Germany, 222€
What's the name of the song he played in the beginning?
Alexander Sunga Jr same question for the song at the end...
Alexander Sunga Jr I need to know this as well!
Alexander Sunga Jr btw if you're talking about the song Trent played himself on the flugelhorn, it is called "Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring." However I'd also like to know the intro and outro piece titles.
Intro - Grand Choeur Dialogue - Gigout -- seek out a performance on organ.
you can try lapping the valves, I've used one of those finger nail polishing things with the multiple steps on one thing and it's worked on cheap pocket trumpets.
i like your videos, but are you reviewing or showing your collection?
4:50 how is dat a trumpet lol
Good breath support!
how close are the fingerings to a trumpet?
They're identical
Thank you!
oh yeah yeah
A fake Bach soprano tuba, Again???!!!
Come on Trent, get mad at me because i called a flugelhorn a soprano tuba.
I played a bach fake in school and the intonation was completely out of the box
were you playing Jesu joy of mans desiring
Yes
Nice video!!! I also started a musical channel :)
*starts raining at 5min*
$250 for fun? How about $250 got Screwed.
Chin up bro, the comments here always make me laugh. You can 100% guarantee somebody will miss the point entirely.
Much better video than your video of a fake Bach trumpet. These instruments are made of "pot" medal, which is a mix of metals usually used to solder with. When these types of instruments break (and it will), music repair businesses refuse to work on them. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
I can hear that you were recording some of this in the bad weather.
Did you get affected much by it?
first of all monel is a hard version of a lead coating similar to babbit used in industry until the early 50s when insert bearing shells were invented and is not precision. monel coated valves go back to the steam engine days in the mid 1800s before precision grinding and nickel chrome valves were invented
i will not own a horn with monel valves. the original bach strads did not use monel valves until 1952 as standard production..-
monel valves stick if you allow them to sit for a day or two. my bach strad has done that since it was new in 75. a friend's pro grade besson did that since new as do blessing horns are bad about that also. in 1991 went shopping for a new horn i went to a large dealer and was talking about buying a getzen g20s LB. the salesman from Bach was there and said i should reconsider and buy a real trumpet. he had 6 new bach strads with him. i said ok i will test play one. the valves were frozen solid on all six they had to be taken to the repair dept and unfrozen by warming the horns up spraying with penetrating oiol and knocked out with a wood dowel then re lapped back in. and then they were sticky the bach salesman said that was normal that the horns had to be broke in well i bought the getzen. the getzen reniasense has been th best horn i ever owned. i traded in my old bach strad in on it
brokenwrench1 best info provided in the topic. Thanks! Is it possible to nickel plate monel valves to get them non sticking? Or am i screwed once i’ve bought a monel valve flugel?
Your gonna fuck up the valves if you play it like that
daily drivers...
Darn, I was hopeful. I was hoping there was some chance of a cheap flugelhorn that works effectively and can play in tune and is pleasant to play. Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait until I have the budget to get a real one
Billy Garvey i bought a Yamaha 3 valve Flugel for about 400 including tax. Can't beat that
Curtis Lenox Not too bad. Once I need one and have some more cash laying around, I'll look into it. Where did you find it? Ebay, or retail? New or used? Thanks
Sounds like a trumpet... Bad sound
Chinesium metal lol
Is it raining or is there a fuckin hurricane going on outside?
what was the song you play?
Michael Wildon Ng Bach's cantata 147 Jesu joy of man's desiring
Who else thought the lick he played in the beginning sound like the Wii sports theme
Great video again. I've never seen a flugelhorn in real life and would like to learn more about them. Better go visit Wikipedia.
Dammit Trent, when will you stop with the subtle innuendos? And that's a sarcastic stop. keep them kuming.
What about the morality of buying Chinese or Indian instruments? I expect these manufacturers pay their workers next to nothing and dump their toxic waste wherever they like. Plus they have no R&D costs because they just copy Bach or whoever. Surely a good used western-made horn is a better buy from an ethical standpoint?
What about the computer, tablet, phone you just used posting here??
lol
hey I'm 7th grade 1st chair trumpet and I have to play the piece u played
Never buy Chinese
Notification Squad Are you here?
You play instruments for fun? It must be great not having Chinese or North Korean parents. :P
