Elkmont's Wonderland Hotel (What's left) Time Stamps In Description

- The Wonderland Hotel is located in Elkmont, TN. Fireplaces and foundations are about all that are left. Some of the foundations are located overlooking the river. Extremely steep slope down to the river. I will be daydreaming of being there back in the day.
Two deer were near one site. They huffed and stomped to let me know they wanted me gone. Then one of them mooned me.
Elkmont is the location of synchronized fireflies. Once a year, for about 2 weeks, the fireflies will light up and go dark in unison. I'm told it's one species that does this but for some reason the other species join in for those two weeks. Nature is amazing.

I love that you allowed us to walk through the woods silently with you.

Very enjoyable, thanks for sharing.
I do try to make it about nature, not me.
I love that you don't talk, and just let me enjoy the walk in peace. You got a new subscriber my friend!
It's all about nature, not me.

"Let's go," indeed. Or, as a very smart friend would say, "JUST GO."
Hey there nice walk and adventure thank you for sharing!
👍Thank you.👍
Thank you for showing the sign at the beginning. What a strange place for a hotel, in the woods. Wonder what happened, so little left, a fire? Please be safe, times sure have changed, for the worst.
This is now part of The Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Some of the historical homes have been renovated and are available to the public. I just concentrated on nature this trip. Check out the synchronized fireflies here. I have seen them once before and they are amazing. www.visitmysmokies.com/blog/smoky-mountains/elkmont-fireflies-event-smoky-mountains/
- do you know any of the history?
Just that there was a hotel and a small settlement there. The government came in and took over. That's the highlights. The synchronized fireflies are still in this area today. There is a lottery to determine who gets to visit for the fireflies. Deadline may have already passed. Great Smoky Mountains Park, Sugarlands Visitors Center, +1 865 436 7316. Thank you. I have tried to keep the focus on nature, not me. That said, thank you for the feedback. Will have to talk in an upcoming post for clarity. You'll get to hear the old mountain man then. LOL
I loved listening to the river in the background and found it soothing. I wouldn't mind a bit of commentary if there's something interesting to note, but I quite enjoy feeling like I am taking a walk in the woods.
