    My EBAY purchased Orange Tiny Terror Valve amp needed new power amp valves. So I chose a popular brand I have tried before - JJ ELECTRONICS.
    Here is my video on swapping out your power stage EL84 valves.
    I got mine in the UK from:
    www.hotroxuk.co...
    At the time they were just £11 each plus shipping.
    Enjoy!!!!!

    Finger grease on valves will not make them deteriorate quicker, look into it, read up on it. Of course this is not that big of a deal, but you really shouldn't regurgitate things that people tell you spreading false information. Look into the way a valve works there is no way that a little finger grease on the outside will affect it at all.

      You are correct and I thought I stated that it was not required. I'm just ocd where anything glass that gets hot is concerned. It's perfectly fine to touch valves.

    Good video. I have never changed valves on an amp before but on the Orange Terror it looks easier than I imagined.

    Looks fairly simple to do. Tubes remind me of a recent passing uncle of mine who at my young age (many decades ago LOL) would send me to a local electronic store with a load of tubes to check which ones where defective and which ones worked. I'm not even sure if any such place exists any more where you can just walk in and use the electronic tube testing machine for free. Thanks once more for sharing.

      Gil Lamb saw em alot as a kid. but i did see one on craigs list a while back. cheaper than the orange tube tester. 50 times the size. if i remember you could test any valve ever made.

    Hey I am changing the tubes on my TH30 Combo and this was the closest video I could find to see how you undid the spring mounts. I was real nervous about it but this video helped me get through! Thanks!

      So glad this was able to help you. Always be careful to check for residual charge before working on valve amps 😊👍

    I just pull them and replace. Have done so for decades. Anything from a Marshall to Carvin to Sundown.

    Looks like that transformer is tilted back too like on mine? Wonder why they’re like that? Anyways, glad it’s not just me.

    don't you need to re bias the amp after changing the power tubes ?

    Great video...Can i ask, why didn-t you Changed the ECC83 aka AX1. I have a TT combo with 9 years and am now in need of new valves for the first time. I would assume to change all the valves and thats what i will do. Altough i also know that EL84 should be changed once every 2 years. But When should i change de ECC83 then^?

    The earth pin in the IEC male socket is connected to chassis earth. There will be no potential difference between the earth pin and any metal part on the chassis surface. TX etc. No Biasing required?

      Thank you. I've learned something. 👍I was worried about residual charge in the smoothing capacitors.

    Is it wise to replace all the tubes or typically just the power tubes?

  • @allansmith6140
    @allansmith6140 3 роки тому +1

    You have already touched the amp all over, so why are you testing for "residual voltages" all over the chassis? The other thing is that the earth terminal is connected to the chassis which you so carefully tested, so you are basically testing nothing, not that you would find any residual voltages on a chassis ever.

    Do EL84s need an initial bias? Or do they run perfectly without current adjustments?

    • @Chinaguitarsceptic
      @Chinaguitarsceptic  3 роки тому

      The Tiny Terror does not typically require any attention with respect to biasing because of its' cathode-biased power section. The vast majority of EL84 pairs will operate within the tolerances of the stock cathode bias resistors. Ordering a matched pair from a specialty valve supplier that is specified for your amp model should ensure that no resistor-swapping is necessary.

    Hi, could you explain again about the "earth continuity" and the attachment of the multi meter to the earth pin? As I see it you do not have earth continuity unless the amp is grounded which it cannot be in this situation as the power lead is not attached. To ground something like the meter (in this case) shouldn't you attach the black lead to a central heating radiator, which is, in its self, grounded already? Am I missing something?

    • @craigparse1439
      @craigparse1439 7 років тому

      Without the "earth" ground attached to a real ground, you will just be checking the voltage across the various parts of the amp to the amp chassis.
      Some people have special grounding power cables that only carry the grounding wire so the chassis will be earth grounded. Those are very useful if you do a lot of amp, computer or other electronic repair.

      Craig Parse Thanks for your views. I need to change the valves on my Peavey, so far I am not convinced I have the skills to do this myself safely. Your comment kind of reenforces this position.

    • @Chinaguitarsceptic
      @Chinaguitarsceptic  7 років тому

      +MrCElk sorry not had a chance to reply. Wrong choice of phrase earth continuity. Probably due to my recent PAT test training. All I am looking for is any residual stored in the capacitors on the board. This is what can be dangerous. Generally if you have unplugged your amp and left it a suitable time then any residual stored will have dissipated. This will happen quicker if the amp had been used than quickly turned on then off.
      Changing tubes like any electrical work is easy if you know what you are doing and you file safety steps. Don't let it put you off learning but I'd get some qualified help to show you first time, just in case. Cheers CGS:-)

    Try a little piece of masking tape to date it.That way it's removeable!

    • @Chinaguitarsceptic
      @Chinaguitarsceptic  7 років тому

      Yeah I thought about that many times but my concern is that valves get very hot and I think the masking tape could ignite. That's the only reason I don't do that buddy. :-)
