@Michael Persico my wife likes the doorbell camera so she can she who's at the door when I'm not home, since she has anxiety around strangers. Also I don't know where you live but in my neighborhood no one talks to each other so neighbor help isn't a viable option for most people lol.

I really like the creator of Ring. He didn't show any animosity towards the sharks, and he didn't quit after they rejected him. Super respectable.
He also knows that Shark Tank got him in front of an audience that saw his product, and enabled him to eventually sell to Amazon. One can get a boost in sales just from appearing on the show. He seems very humble. I'm glad for him!😁

The thing is that if they think the investment will make them lose money, they pull out. Investment will not always bring you the money you hope to gain. Investing is gambling your money. They are just too afraid of losing any amount of money but that is what you should expect when you are investing in something. They also seem to bargain with people when the Sharks want to invest in something and pay a lower price for something they expect more out of and get a bigger cut of that investment. Feels cheap and dirty for the people trying to get the Sharks to invest in their product.

Goes to show how much you presenting your buissness correctly really matters. The Flower buissness they all said "No" because of his pitch sale but then when the shark went and saw it in person, he loved it and was sold.
What is really interesting about this show is that even if you walk away without a deal, the visibility is so big that you will eventually get other investors or overall more people to know and consume your product/business. I think that's something that is not always pointed. Just for being selected to pitch there, you have already won.

I could buy a lottery ticket today and win $1,000,000 and the decision to buy the lottery ticket would still have been an objectively bad investment at the time. In the same vein a $1,000,000 investment that has a 10% chance to turn into $9,000,000 in a few years would be a bad investment. It's very easy in hindsight to say that it would have been good, but was it really? You're just trying to beat the odds by making as objective investments as possible.
Well that is the difference and that is the game. Entrepreneur bet everything on the 10% odd chance of success and they know that.
It's not about the calculation here it's about being an ashol instead of providing good feedback, if it is not a good idea. Wait, they sold it for a huge amount. The idea they treated as crap.

In the context of the Doorbot (Ring) episode of when it aired (2013). There is some logic to why the Sharks rejected it. In 2012 feature phones still made up almost 60% of all phone sales. So wouldn't be surprised if the Sharks were thinking Doorbot would only be a niche thing to a subsect of consumers. They're looking to invest in something that can sell to the general consumer base. Not a niche.
Of course, fast forward 8 years and now 90% of people have a smartphone and half the houses in any middle class suburban housing development has a Ring doorbell.

As a delivery driver about 95% of the houses I deliver to have Ring. Even houses that live in ranches have Ring on the front gate thats like a distance from the house. I remember one day regular door bells then the next few days everyone has one.

You know, even if the sharks reject your idea, others might grab it up. You aren't just presenting to the sharks, you're also presenting to everyone who sees the show.

Yes. Ur right....most of the sharks are aware of that. They've done the show long enough to see that the "some" people go on the show strictly for advertisement...and not necessarily to get a deal. It's not fair...but works for some businesses.
