    Benz 1888
The first American gasoline-powered car was designed and built in 1893 by bicycle mechanics Charles and Frank Duryea in Springfield, Massachusetts. The brothers purchased a used horse-drawn buggy for $70 and installed a 4 horsepower, single-cylinder gasoline engine. The car was first test-driven on the Howard Bemis farm in Chicopee, Massachusetts on September 21, 1893. The Duryea brothers went on to win the first American car race in 1895 and sold the first American-made gasoline car in 1896.

Yeah so many people get that context so wrong throughout history. They also think he invented the first car as well lol
