BLACK SABBATH and TROUBLE had a kid. Its name was CATHEDRAL. I can't believe I'm in my 60's and still listening to this. No wonder my grandchildren don't understand me! My car, my music, my rules!
For me, Cathedral were the only band who added to, and developed the Sabbath sound throughout their existence, and understood the importance of melody, which so many doom bands forget. I miss them.
this is what happens when a bunch of pot-smoking hippies put down their tambourines and pick up electric guitars....this is some of the coolest music ever laid down.....been digging it for 30 plus years....groovy!!!!!
@@joesmith9216 I know what you're saying, yes, Lee was in Napalm Death, but none of the others were. If you look at the bands name-checked by Gaz Griff and Adam on their first two releases you'll see a lot of obscure 70s acid folk and psychedelia, as well as metal bands. Whole heap of influences coming in there, Sabbath being only the most obvious. Brilliant band, whichever way you look at it....👍
I bought this in 1996. I was on strike with fellow union workers, and it was Freezing cold in February 96, and i had this Blasting on my Headphones over and over!! This album is a Metal Masterpiece.🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I first saw this video and heard this song in 1993 on MTV's old Headbanger's Ball, ironically enough. This was some of the heaviest riffing I'd ever heard. The Ethereal Mirror was my first Cathedral album. This was ground zero of my introduction to doom, a genre which I still enjoy today. I played that album a lot, and it continues to inspire me.
noisebloom Definitely a killer record. Awesome song-writing, & the production is top notch. I had been into Cathedral since the release of "Forest of Equilibrium" - that album was just so crushingly heavy & slow & different. I had been listening to almost nothing but death metal for a few years before it's release, so it was a great change of pace, breath of fresh air. When I got "Ethereal Mirror", I was kinda disappointed at first 'cause it wasn't quite the same as "Forest", ya know? Then, a few months later, I went back & REALLY listened to it. After that, it started getting played ALL THE TIME at my place 'cause it just plain fuckin' rules! loll ;)
What a great band and song!!! It happens when Doom Metal and Rock'n Roll gets together and produce a perfect blend of innovative power metal sound! Greetings from Loja, Ecuador!!!

A looong time ago I had this CD. I remember this song specifically from the album. I loved this friggen song. But for some reason, time passed and I forgot all about the band and much of the song. But every once in a while the song would come from the back of my mind and give me hints at how it sounded and how much I loved the song. Well, I finally did the research to remember the song and band. So glad I did.
Lee is one of those pure force of nature entertainers. He commands the stage but encourages divers. You can only stage dive safety if the band have the crowd feeling catchy😅😊😊.
i love this album and cartnival bizarre, my favorite ones!!!!!!!!!! cathedral is one of the few bands that follow black sabbath traditional doom to the prefection.
0:31 "Black Mr. Vacuum gonna tidy the land, scour this material the louver's gettin' bad!" Always loved a good tune about cleanin' the house! Off to grab my black Hoover. Yep, I call him Mr. Vacuum too! Don't judge me!
Everytime I listen to a tasty groovy doom riff like this one all I want to do is go out and find some fellas who want to create a doom metal band with me. Soon, soon
@CharlesMetalhead Tony Iommi played guitar on one of Cathedral's songs from Carnival Bizarre. I'll bet the guys in Cathedral were in awe the entire time!

Iommi found them and brought them to BS tour in 90's... He also is a guest on one of their song called Utopian Blaster

no, these guys were all thrashers who wanted to form a doom band and slow their metal down, lee was in Napalm, fastest band of the day.

You’re both correct.
Damned right!
Makes me want to throw a blunt together and shake my head. Cathedral were the dogs bollocks when they released this 🤟
The drum sound on that album is nothing short of amazing. Organic yet punchy and heavy as it should.
Thats my pops
Agreed. Love both the drum sound and performance. Wharton was my favorite drummer of theirs.
