I sometimes imagine what things might have possibly been like if the Communists of Germany ultimately emerged into power (over Hitler, and his Nazi Party). How would events than unfold? I often think that (unlike with Hitler and the Nazis), Communist Germany would hold a permanent (and genuine) friendship with Stalin and the USSR over conquered Poland. Both nations (now empires) would share their mutual thoughts and feelings with each other. I wonder how all of that would've played out in the end? However, I think that in the end, the people of Germany ultimately needed a very strong sense of national Pride and Identity (for their loss in World War One, etc). Obviously (unlike genuine communism), Fascism (with its strong sense of deep, national identity) also provided this for the suffering masses of Germany of the time (not that Communism was probably also a close contender at the time).
We can still build a better tomorrow for the working class, I'm from Brazil and here it's obvious that the imperialism will never let us be free and prosperous as we could be. Imperialism is necessary for socialdemocracy. Also welfare doesn't resolve things like 1929 like stock crashes, monopolies and the accumulation of capital in the hands of fewer and fewer people. It's just preventing people from outright starving and is a COMPROMISE between workers and capitalists. Also if you think the USSR was fascist i suggest you to read CIA documents regarding Stalin, the USSR and so forth. They really say a lot of truth about the USSR
I think if the USSR had won the cold war we would be miserable under totalitarian rule, poor and getting poorer in a stagnant economy by the day. I do hope that a better more socialist world is possible but their ideology clearly wasn't the path to it.
