Hi again Mark , he (Paul Draper) formerly of Mansun, does seem to have 'grown up' a great deal and dealt with some personal demons and issues recently. He is still excellent live and his latest album 'Cult leader tactics', is my favourite LP so far in 2022 . Best wishes, Steve.
I seem to have completed UA-cam so I’m watching this video again. So glad I am because I agree that Let Go is fantastic. I discovered all these b sides in one wallop with the 2011 reissue although I did buy the album in 1999 and saw them at V99 Chelmsford (my first ever gig). About to put on the Perivale show for the first time!
Hi Mark, just catching up with some of your past videos. My hill to die on in the Blur V Oasis debate is.......Suede and Mansun. You can giggle now. Best wishes as always, Steve.

Hi, I think Crack in the Union Jack is their worst song ever. Never liked Let Go or Elephant Man. I think this tracklist is actually a really good album:- 01. Can't Get Enough 02. Electricity 03. The self-titled and DMS are full-tilt genius. The beloved Coming Up isn't my thing, but it's overall decent. Head Music is the sound of a band imploding - maybe a third decent, a third uninspired, and a third that only sound release-able if you've got near fatal levels of drugs in you.
This record was like taking a deep breath of smelling salts. So powerfully unpleasant that it made me never want to listen to the band again. I was a suede fan and this record took that away from me.
@@markreed4543 I always find it interesting when you come across someone the same age who has broadly similar taste and discover which bands they like that you don't. I love The Auteurs and would lump them in with those bands you mentioned that have kind of been written out of history, although for different reasons. I maintain they were every bit the proto britpop band (for better or worse) that Suede were. I followed Suede from a distance right from the infamous Melody Maker cover, although three months behind, because that's how long it used to take the British music press to arrive here in Australia! Where Head music is concerned, I actually like it more than Coming Up. I didn't like Coming Up when it came out- to this day I think the production on it is terrible. So thin and tinny. I was young and stupid at the time and sided with Bernard, following him through various adventures with Aimee Mann and David McAlmont. You know how you take these break-ups personally at that age and Bernard was a very mysterious and alluring figure to me. Head Music bought me back on board with Suede.
@@jasonmoad56 I preferred the more spiky, sharp live versions with big buzzsaw guitars - the record of "Coming Up" is good, but very clean and precise. "Head Music" is a great LP that really needs a reshaped tracklist. That said, I saw the "Head Music" night at the ICA and "Asbestos"/"Hi-Fi" are very good live, I wish they'd played them more than just once!
I love the context, I’m a big Suede fan and I didn’t know half the info that’s been on your videos!
Great work!

Blur or Oasis? Suede or Pulp? I think The Auteurs deserve to be mentioned in the same breath. Great video.
Good call, but The Auteurs didn't rock my world.

I can't stand Elephant Man. When I first heard this, I thought is this a joke? Sounds like a Scooby Doo soundtrack to me!
It's not the best song ever, but was always a giggle live.
