At the time U2 really were embracing the concept of having multiple versions of singles and I felt quite ripped off. Overall this set of b-sides and remixes is better than the crap (for the most part) they released during the ATCLB period but does not come close to for example the POP era in terms of quality. Well, some people like to have 20 versions of the same single on the shelve some even collect them for different catalogue numbers 😆. Record companies obviously very much like to re-release the old shit over and over again. And there's fans begging for super deluxe sets of overlooked records in that regard like Rattle & Hum, POP or Zooropa. I think with U2 it has become quite redundant in recent years as the last 3 studio albums haven't been particularly great as well but could be used for ASMR purposes. I'd rather would've have had Passengers II + III + IV instead than all that format radio crap but I understand their audience has changed quite a bit and now it's mostly people who pay no attention to what is actually going on in the world. Most of them are now what Phil Collins fans used to be in the 90s 😆. Oh, don't think twice. It's just another day for you and me in paradise.

Superb analysis. These U2 boxsets get more expensive with each one and the content gets less and less. 'Shadow album', wonder which smartarse formulated that spin?

thanks mark - great vid as always . Do think a couple of songs from the ‘shadow’ album onto the actual album would have made it ALOT better . let’s have a POP super deluxe!! Mind you they’ll miss loads on that too I’ll bet !

Another missed opportunity

Gold standard in box sets you say? Check Mansun 'closed for buisness', 24 CDs, 1 DVD, a VERY detailed hardback book, 2 Softback books, 4 art prints, 4 postcards, a unique hand signed lyrics sheet and.......A ribbon! Yours for £125. Of coarse it's of limited appeal to fans of off kilter Britpop era music. Anyhow, Happy New year mate and thanks for the video's this year. Steve.

I only bought the RSD Black Friday release of "How To Re-Assemble...." (The Shadow Album). Since I already collected all those singles, there's nothing in the box set that I don't already own.

I have to admit, I wasn't overly thrilled with this box set. I wasn't ever a big fan of this album in the first instance and the 'shadow album' just wasn't that great. I just wish they would get on with it and release a new album.

What no "Ava Maria - Jacknife Lee Remix"? and no " Neon Lights". you said all I was going to say. most of the B-Sides were Live Tracks - but they expect you to have brought all the CD-Singles and DVD-Singles, Which I did then I sold them all, Except the "Sometimes..." DVD-Single - I don't get the books of doodles they release as "Special Editions" they all do it Beck, Radiohead, The Pixies even David Bowie has started doing it and he's dead. I won't be buying this, I have several copies of their Good Album.

PWEI, are still very good live, I got everyone except the bass player to sign their 2015 album "Anti-Nasty League" I had them sign the inside of the back cover there was no artwork just the yellow - the bass player was packing up their gear and they would not let me walk across the room with their precious marker. U2 didn't realize when "Rattle & Hum" came out they were just cruising on "the Joshua Tree" fame and not making good music anymore - It was a cash in when they had nothing to give.

Breathe is indeed really bad. However by just omitting that one as well as The sweetest condition, Easy tiger, I am you and Exciter becomes an amazing album although a little slow in tempo and I agree on the production to some extent. The dead of night is a favorite from this album.

I adore The Cure and they meant everything to me as a younger man, but I stopped listening after Wish, which I think was their last great album. After that, their sound changed and the songwriting quality just went down. I think they ran out of ideas. I must say, though it's great to see them comeback with an album thats quite good, and while I'm loving all the Cure appreciation going on right now...I do think this album is a little overrated. Im a bit bemused by the reaction it's getting. So, although I don't begrudge them this late-career success at all, at the same time I don't quite understand it. I think the production on this album is actually quite poor and there are various sounds that are lost in the muddy mix. It's good but it's not THAT good.

Hold on. You can't say you're not the kind of person to spend hundreds of pounds on a record when you have 4x more versions than most of us and you're sitting in front of a massive collection! Nice to see you back, BTW.

Great review of a brilliant album

I sort of tapped out on the Cure around Disintegration, while I’m aware of a lot of what they have done since I’ve never been that taken with it. Having watched the recent live performance of the album I have to say I’m back in, I’ve just got to hear the album itself which I’m hoping to remedy in the next day or so.

It's easy the forget people have been on the moon - Because they haven't. The Cure Did Go Away they actually Stopped being a band, But like lots of other bands, AC/DC is an example they came back as there was a pile of Cash sitting on a table that the record companies wouldn't get their hands on - And they had a huge back catalogue of songs never played live that they could take out for a spin - I was in Sydney in 2009 when they did a show there and was gutted as they had said they were done and lied, I've seen them twice, once in 92 and 16 when Robert looked very different and played all the awful songs from "The Top" - "Don't Do Drugs" That "November" thing is between $231 - $3764 Two songs I don't need. I Have this Album, the 3-disc thingy and the 7" single and the Live Album - I have listened to none of these things - So many people are raving about it which makes me think it probably sucks so for now I'm Schrödinger's catting this thing.

I have mixed thoughts on this one. People saying it is as good/ better than Disintegration are just overexcited by a good Cure released in 2024. For me, it's easily the best since Wish, but then again it's been pretty spotty for the Cure since then. Perhaps I would have loved this more if I'd have been 16 when it dropped, but the older I get the more I appreciate the more varied/ left-field and colorful Cure material, and the less time I have for the bleak stuff.

Such a brilliant album! What a return after 16 years.
